Chapter Thirteen
Spying on Love
~Jaejoong's POV~
I wracked my brains of what to do next.
____________ is mad at me because she thinks I'm cheating on her.
And her friends shoot me glares.
I sighed.
She wouldn't pick up her phone either.
I don't know if she's busy or if she's ignoring me on purpose.
It's probably the second one.
I selected Changmin in my contacts.
Did _________ tell you anything..?
No. But some people say you weren't treating her right. If it's true... Do your prayers.
I winced.
Ani, it's not what it looks like.
Oh really? Well _________ was crying into Taeyeon's shoulder the yesterday. Explain that.
She was crying?!
Well what did I just say, sherlock?
I winced again at his edginess.
We kinda got into a fight.
Yeah, and you kinda broke up?
Yeah...
Thought so.
I bit my lip.
So Changmin should know what __________ is thinking now.
..Can you do me a favor?
A FAVOR?!?!?! After what you did to __________????
It's only a small one. Please?
It took him a while to respond.
He was probably thinking.
Fine. What is it?
After we fought, I didn't really talk to her. And I know she's really mad at me. I tried calling her, but she isn't picking up. And when I called her house, Taemin told me she left to a business trip. Well I guess that was a cover-up for wherever she's going. But can you...
How should I say this?
Shoot. I accidentally pressed send.
"Ugh!" I grumbled in frustration.
Changmin texted back.
Can I tell you where she is? No. I don't have a clue. And she's probably not picking up because she's mad... most likely. There's a small chance that she's actually on full schedule... I heard she went to retrieve the footage from the criminals...
My eyes widened.
Retrieve the footage?!?!? All by herself?!?!?!
I swallowed.
Thanks, Changmin.
No problem.
I chucked my phone across the room, and it landed lightly on the table.
I let the idea of receiving any important phone calls slip from my mind and left to the Departments.
~Your POV~
So far, no progress.
I clicked my telescope back in place.
From what I investigated, they aren't going to do anything until tomorrow or the day after.
I kicked back in my chair.
What can I do to pass time?
An idea lit up in my head.
Brilliant.
I can go shopping! After all, this is Tokyo.
I let all my worries evaporate for a while.
My mind concentrated on clothes.
And only clothes.
"That looks lovely on you!" the store clerk marveled.
I gazed in the mirror.
"Does it?" I wondered, half to myself.
"Of course!" she answered.
"Doesn't it make me look a bit... old?" I pointed out.
"Not at all! You can wear this to a date! I'm sure your boyfriend will love it!" she exclaimed.
"O-Oh. Okay," I replied, depressed all over again by the thought of the word boyfriend.
"Why? Don't you have one?" the clerk asked, "you're so pretty. A guy would be stupid not to fall for you and treat you well."
I laughed half-heartedly.
"Thanks. I'll take this," I told her and her face lit up happily.
"It'll be with the cashier then!"
I successfully faked a smile.
Her words repeated in my head.
A guy would be stupid not to fall for you and treat you well.
I let out a small sigh.
Either she's lying, or Jaejoong is a total jerk.
I grabbed my phone and dialed his number.
I'll give him one last chance.
I waited.
No one picked up.
I waited some more.
I rolled my eyes.
"Fine. I gave you a chance, so don't tell me I didn't," I hissed and ended the call.
I browsed stores till the end of of the day.
The thoughts of Jaejoong had escaped my mind sometime at lunch.
My arms were heavy, but my spirit was lifted.
I happily closed the door to the hotel room.
Time to check on my little friends next door.
I put down my bags and peered through the telescope.
"Why are you guys so boring?" I muttered to myself.
But all for the better.
Now I can sit back...and relax.
My phone rang for the hundreth time since I was here.
I picked it up irritably.
Sure enough, it was Jaejoong.
I was about to close my phone, but my hand decided otherwise.
"Mhmm?" I said.
"________?" his voice sounded concerned.
"Yeah?" I replied flatly.
"Where are you? Are you ok?" he asked.
"Tsk~ Why would you care? I'm fine though," I answered.
There was a pause.
"You sure?" he asked again.
I sighed.
"Yeah. At least, I am physically," I told him.
"....Well, I'm sorry for not picking up earlier. I left my phone at home," he sounded sincere, but I can't trust him anymore.
He was going to ramble on with apologies, I knew he was.
"I'm busy. So if you don't mind, I'm hanging up," I said curtly.
Without waiting for a response, I clicked my phone shut.
I gazed out the window.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw movements.
I scrambled to get the telescope.
"Aish. I thought you guys said it was tomorrow!" I complained to myself.
I slipped into my boots and headed out the door.
