Good CompanyIt was a sunny monday morning as I arrived to the YG training building, the tall and modern block painted black and sleek grey greeted me as I hopped out of the black van. I hear fangirls screaming out in excitement behind the main gates, holding signs with supportive messages to their idols.
“LEE HAYI SARANGHAE!!!”
I turned around in surprise to see a bunch of fangirls and a few fanboys waving at me with big smiles on their faces. I waved back to them and made the heart shape with my arms in reply. These things rarely happen, as I was still a rookie with little fans so I was extremely grateful for their support. Feeling happy and refreshed I entered the building only to see TOP exiting from the lifts. He looked like a model that could grace the TIMES magazines cover anyday, with his dark shades, sharp jawline and the utmost chic fashion.
“Hello, sunbaenim.” I bowed to him as we both stopped midway to exchange greetings.
“Hello, Hayi-ah. Its good to see you again, how are you?” TOP greeted with a small smile that graced his handsome face. My stomach did a double - wait no a triple flip as I looked up at him. I held my hands tightly together, trying to squeeze my nervousness away.
“I am good, and you sunbaenim?” I replied nervously while chewing my bottom lip - a habit I developed during primary school when I sat for exams. I could tell he knew I was extremely nervous and he laughed out loud before patting my head gently.
“Call me oppa, Hayi-ah. Anyways, I have to go to a CF filming now so I will see you again. Have fun training.” he said with his deep voice and fixed his shades.
“Yes, thank you sunbae- oppa. Please do your best today.” I corrected and slapped myself internally for my mistake. But I heard a deep laugh and TOP grinned at me and walked out of the entrance before shrieks and deafening screams of fans exploded from the streets.
I continued my way into the building, passing the various posters of successful YG artists that lit up the pathway to the lifts. I remember my first time into the building with the other Kpop star contestants. It was nerve-wracking and exciting at the same time. The bunch of us huddled together as we stared in awe at the chic and modernistic interior designs, not really believing if it was a dream or not. I had to pinch myself to remind me it was all real and seeing 2NE1 and Big Bang sunbaenims was also real. Also the YG cafeteria… best food ever. I began to salivate a little, as I reminisce of the rich flavour of their famous Dwenjang Chigae. I quickly brushed my shirt down to feel my food baby which was still apparent and reminded myself to hit the gym a little later today before Hwangssabu-ahjussi lectures me again.
“Hayi-ah, you are early today ! I didn’t expect you until 9AM today considering we practiced till pretty late yesterday night.” Lydia-unnie exclaims in surprise as she rises up to give me a hug as I stepped into our training room.
Lydia-unnie had been in charge of teaching me choreographies and assisting me along with a few vocal teachers with my singing ever since YG Sanjangnim disbanded SuPearls and prepared my solo debut. I cringe when those memories flicker across my mind once again, reminding me of the loneliness I felt when many new/old trainees along with the SuPearls members hated me and casted me aside, overridden by anger at my quick debut and blamed the disbandment on me. It was the worst moments of my life and it took some time to adjust to being alone among the trainees that normally formed groups immediately. However, I was really grateful for Lydia-unnie despite being so popular with trainees and other artists came to me and guided me with her words of encouragement. I also became very close to her and the other backup dancers including the Kwon twins. I shook my head in attempt to shake those memor
