Before We Begin: This is the result of a personal challenge to write as much as I could within a song's time limit. I chose the feel-inducing 'There Is A Place' from the movie 'Somewhere Only We Belong'. Why do I do these things to myself?

Two tealight candles glimmered beside each of Yifan’s feet when he opened his eyes, the rest of the space he found himself in ensconced in darkness. In the distance he could hear the faint tinkling of a piano, which spurred his feet into moving forward. Every step he took more candles illuminated themselves along the forward path he was taking.

I can hear your voice… “Yifan?” Yifan froze, the familiar voice washing over him like hot water after a day in the cold. He picked up his pace and kept moving forward, the tealights illuminating in time with his pace. Eventually they widened themselves in a circle, where they were joined by taller candles that threw out more light to reveal to him a figure he hadn’t seen in months.

I can hear your voice… “Tora?” Yifan blinked, unable to comprehend what he was seeing.

“It’s me, Yifan. I’m here.” Tora smiled at him, but made no move forward. Yifan did instead, stepping into the candle circle and stopping mere centimetres from the girl he’d left behind. His heart was constricting with the emotion he was feeling, his eyes threatening to overflow with it all.

“Is this real?” He reached out and touched her cheek tentatively, “Are you real?”

“I’m real because you want me to be real, Yifan. I’m here because you want me to be here.” Tora replied softly.
