CHAPTER 4

A Week Later

Kibum is staring blankly at the reflection of himself on the mirror. He wasn’t sure of his own feeling, part of him are happy because he is going to engaged to the man of his dream, another part of him are sad because this engagement is also the beginning of his own misery.

“Bummie”

A voice suddenly interrupted his ‘discussion’ with himself, he knew the voice very well and he didn’t have to turn around to recognize the owner.

“You don’t have to do this, your father will understand it”

Since a week ago jinki had been asking the younger to stop this madness, but being the hard-headed he was, he refused it.

“You know i can’t, this is not only about dad” kibum still didn’t turn around to face the older, instead he tried to fix his bow tie, that didn’t have to be fixed at all.

“Bummie…” jinki felt it was useless to talk to his cousin, he knew kibum are doing this because of their family and jonghyun.

Kibum and Jinki stayed like that in silence, both are not trying to utter a single word, because both of them knew that the younger decisions are irrevocable.

“Bummie hyung, everyone is waiting for you” taemin suddenly burst into the latter’s room along with his bubbly voice.

Only then kibum turn around and face the younger while smiling happily, even though he was far from happy. Jinki saw right through kibum’s feline eyes that he is faking his smile, but being the good cousin he is, he just went along with kibum’s act.

“Let’s go” kibum grabbed taemin’s hand and led him out from the room, he was too caught up in his own feeling to notice that he was literally dragging the younger.

“Bummie hyung? You okay?” taemin are not that idiot to not to notice his cousin weird act

“Of course I am, just a bit nervous” kibum lied, it was enough with jinki knowing his true feelings. Kibum didn’t need taemin to know too. If taemin knew how he was feeling at this moment, the younger surely will go berserk.

The younger only nodded in agreement, if he was the one who were getting engaged, surely he will act more jumpy than the older.
As soon as kibum entered the hall of the mansion, the chattering guests immediately shuts up. Everyone in the hall are looking at the latter as if he was an alien. Well, more like angel.

“Oh, you’re here” his mother smiled at her son.

“Look at you, you’re so beautiful.” Yesul compliment the younger truthfully. Kibum really looked beautiful wearing a white shirt along with black luxury suit on the outside.

Kibum could only bow down in embarrassment, earning a light chuckle from the women.

“Hi, bum”

A voice that never failed to make his heart skip a beat, kibum looks up only to meet a beautiful brown puppy eyes. Jonghyun is wearing the same attire as kibum except for his bow tie, kibum is wearing a pink bow tie, while the older is wearing black bow tie. Kibum couldn’t help but to think the older looks so handsome in that outfit, even though he was wearing the same garment.

“Uh…hi” kibum replied and smiled at his soon-to-be fiancé.

Seeing that breathtaking smile, jonghyun’s heart went wild inside him. How can a man looks so beautiful? Jonghyun couldn’t help but wondering. Never in twenty-four years of his life, he found men are beautiful. Kibum is the first to break that record.

Their starring session was interrupted by the faint clunk. It was Kibum’s father doing, to grab the guest attention.

“Could i have your attention?” the truth is, he already grab the attention from the moment he hits his wine glass with spoon.

Seeing the guest’s eyes are on him, he continued “the ceremony will begins now.” Soohyun gives his son and his future son-in-law a sign to move closer to him. The two of them couldn’t do anything but to obey.

Sangwook then comes with a big grin while holding a ring for the ceremony. Jonghyun reach out for the ring first, and then he extended his hand towards the younger. Kibum was contemplating with himself, whether his decision is right.

It was too late to retreat...

Seeing the older extended hand, kibum slowly let his left hand rested on the older’s palm. Jonghyun felt slightly disappointed when he saw kibum’s little hesitation in giving out his hand. Jonghyun didn’t know why he was feeling like that, he just did.

As the younger hand safely landed on his hand, jonghyun slid the silver ring on the younger’s ring finger and Kibum followed the older soon after. As soon as the newly engaged men safely exchanged their ring, the guests clapped their hands, congratulating them.

“Bum bum!”

“Noona!” kibum who is standing besides his now fiancé, shouts back.

Sodam pull the younger boy into her arms, jonghyun could only shook his head watching his fiancé and his sister.

“Congratulations, I’m happy that you finally became our family!” sodam said as she pull herself out from the hug.

“Thank you noona…” kibum replied, but before they could extended their conversation, a sickly sweet voice interrupt them

“Congratulations, oppa” sarcasm lacing her voice.

Jonghyun eyes almost popped out from his head seeing Jessica, while kibum could only looked at the floor. He didn’t expect for jonghyun’s girlfriend to pop out at her boyfriend’s engagement.

“What the hell are you doing here?” sodam voice suddenly changed from sweet and caring to vicious. If a glare could kill a person, then Jessica will be long dead with the death glare that the older woman gave her. Sodam is a sweet girl and it surprised kibum on how one girl presence could make someone changed drastically.

“Unnie, you’re going to get old soon if you keep that expression.” Jessica nonchalantly replied as if she was used to that glare and treatment.

“You!” sodam shouts, earning a few weird glances from other guests.

“Noona...” kibum hold the older girl’s hand to calm her down. He didn’t want to cause a commotion on his big day. Luckily their parents are entertaining the guest far enough so they wouldn’t hear the shouts.

“Jjong, please don’t ruin this” kibum kindly ask jonghyun to take care of his b*tch.

As if on cue, jonghyun quickly hold kibum’s shoulder and politely introduced his fiancé to his girlfriend, Jonghyun clearly told his girlfriend last night about kibum’s plan. Jessica surely would understand his behavior at this moment. Besides, he didn’t want his sister knew about Jessica and him are still in relationship.

“Jess, this is kibum”

“Bummie, this is jessica” sodam let a victorious smirk curving on her lips, seeing her brother ignore the evil-like woman.

Jessica was beyond mad this time. How could her boyfriend casually hug his fiancé in front of her? Of course she knew that was just an act, but still she didn’t like how jonghyun’s sister smirking at her because of that.

“Jess, please…don’t make chaos here. We’ll talk later” jonghyun said quietly to make sure only jessica heard that, but unfortunately for jonghyun, his sister heard every words he utter to his so-called girlfriend.

Jessica huff in annoyance and walk away. She was too caught up in her temper to realize that her shoulder slightly touched the other person who coincidently walked into the mansion.

“Jessica? Is that really you?” the taller man said as he saw the girl

“Minho?” Jessica replied, also shocked seeing the guy

“It’s been a long time, what are you doing here? I thought you’ve already broke up with him?” Minho asked, obviously clueless about jessica and jonghyun relationship

“Just wanted to congratulate him, now I’m done here. See you again, minho” Jessica obviously lied, but Minho being the clueless lamb he was, only nodded and walked into the hall.

Jonghyun are explaining about Jessica to her sister, with a little help from kibum. Luckily for jonghyun, his sister chooses to trust kibum’s word.

“Hey buddy” jonghyun, kibum and sodam turn to the said voice, only to find a frog-looking guy waving happily to dino-looking guy

“Minho!” Jonghyun shouts as he walked towards his friend and hugged the taller boy.

“Congratulations hyung, i hope you will take good care of this diva” Minho chuckled as he said that, kibum on the other side, was furious hearing that frog boy teasing him.

“Yah, choi minho!” kibum walk closer towards the boy, only to slap the back of Minho’s head.

“Ouch...kibum that hurt” Minho gently caress his hurting head, while regretting his little tease towards the slightly older male.

Jonghyun could only watch his friend and his fiancé talk casually. Jonghyun frowned, clearly wanting an explanation on how the two of them could know each other. Minho could only chuckle seeing the older male frowned.

“Don’t be jealous now, hyung..i know kibum through my boyfriend” minho said while holding in his laughter, clearly amused by the jealous look the older gave him.

“i-i’m not” jonghyun stutter a little as he replied.

He wouldn’t jealous of me, frog-face!

Kibum could only rolled his eyes, cursing the taller boy mentally.

“Speaking of which, where is taemin?” Minho then asked

“Don’t know, he said he wanted to eat just now. He dragged jinki hyung along with him” kibum simply said. He didn’t want taemin to drag jinki earlier, but seeing sodam making him totally forgot about his cousin.

“Wait, do you know jonghyun?” kibum asked as he remembered how his fiancé and Minho hugged earlier.

“Of course I know him. We’ve been friend since 5 years ago.” Minho simply said, as if it wasn’t a big problem. The truth is he knew jonghyun because of Jessica, but he couldn’t possibly told kibum that, right?

Kibum resists an urge to smack Minho across his face. How could that frog boy didn’t tell him when taemin told the taller man about he’s getting married to his friend?

“Kibum? Could i borrow jonghyun hyung for awhile?” Minho asked while jonghyun only titled his head in confusion.

“You have to ask him not me” kibum simply said and walked away to find his lost cousin.

Minho gives a sign to the older to follow him. Without saying anything, jonghyun only followed the taller. Minho and Jonghyun decided to talk outside the house, where no one could possibly hear their conversation.

“I saw jessica earlier” minho simply said as he sat down on bench in front of the mansion, the taller hugged himself to find warmth of his own body because of the night breeze

Jonghyun starts to feel uneasy of how this conversation will turn out as soon as jessica was mentioned. “What about her?” jonghyun said in not so normal voice.

“I’m not an idiot, hyung. Jessica won’t be here if she already broken up with you. What are you planning on hyung?” Minho clearly not an idiot as his older friend was, of course Minho would suspect the older, since he knew both jessica and jonghyun too well. Even though, he had a love-and-hate relationship with kibum, he couldn’t help but to care about the latter.

Jonghyun knew he couldn’t lie to his friend. He sighed deeply, before turning to his younger friend and told the taller the whole story, including how kibum is willing to help him to get Jessica back. Minho on the other side only shook his head in disappointment of his older friend.

“Hyung, jessica already hurt you that much, but you still hanging on her. I knew Jessica, she won’t changed just like that. I’m sure someone’s going to get hurt in this crazy plan!” Minho raised his voice a bit as he spoke, clearly didn’t agree of the older plan.

“No one would hurt, I’m sure of it! I love her, Minho. I don’t care how much she hurt me before. She was sorry about that.”

“She slept with another man on your anniversary. Of course she was sorry about that. I don’t know what she did to you to make you such a fool like this!” Minho spat back, sarcasm lacing his angry voice. He didn’t understand his friend at all. Even though kibum could be diva sometimes, but kibum is two hundred percent better than Jessica.

“Minho, watch your words. She is my girlfriend!” jonghyun also starting to raise his voice, he wasn’t too pleased when the younger talk like that about Jessica.

“yeah she is, but don’t forget she also my cousin. I knew her better than you! Remember this hyung, if you hurt kibum in any way, i’m gonna kill you! from the moment you hurt him, you lose the right to call me your friend!” minho seriously meant every words he uttered. Kibum didn’t deserve to hurt at all because of his cousin and his foolish friend. Minho stomped away as he said that, he didn’t want to punch his friend on his engagement.

Jonghyun could only blink stupidly at his friend outburst. minho never spoke to him like that. What did Kibum had to make everyone taking on his side, even the older’s own family keep telling him not to hurt the younger. Why did everybody said the same damn thing to him? Why would he hurt kibum? He had no reason to.

Kibum was still searching his cousin when sangwook called him. Being an obedient future-son-in-law he walked towards the said man and smiled at the older beautifully.

“Bummie, I’m glad now you’re finally part of this family…Where is jonghyun?” kibum could only smile hearing his soon-to-be father-in-law, how could he thought of canceling this engagement when everyone who he love, were expecting so much from this marriage? He couldn’t bear to see the sad face of these people. He rather lived in his misery than disappointing them.

“minho took him somewhere, but why?” kibum curiously asked

“i’ve been discussing with your father and we’ve agreed to had the wedding next month.”

Kibum mouth is hanging open upon hearing the news. Jonghyun definitely won’t be able to take this news lightly.

“w-why? Aren’t we supposed to get married 3 month from now?” kibum tried to argue

“your father and i had to go to US in next two month and we will stay there for 2 month. We couldn’t make it at the date we’ve set before. It doesn’t make any difference, by hook or by crook you’re going to marry jonghyun, so it doesn’t matter if it earlier than planned.” Sangwook explained, he was sure his son would agree to this newly set day.

It does matter, wookie uncle..

Kibum could only nod weakly, pretending like he was agreeing with his father-in-law theory. Yes, sangwook was right that kibum have to marry jonghyun, that is for sure, but his life will differ a lot after the wedding, so it does matter to the younger. Kibum also worried on how jonghyun will take this shocking news, the older must be wanting to spent more time with his girlfriend before the wedding. Once they were married, it’ll be hard for the two lovebirds to meet.

“Dad? I was told that you were looking for me?”

Kibum turn to his side as he heard the new voice interrupting their little discussion. Sangwook nodded his head to answer his son’s question, indicating that he really is looking for his son. Without beating around the bush, sangwook directly told his son the same thing he told his future-son-in-law. Jonghyun reaction was exactly like, how kibum had imagined. He mouth was hanging open while his eyes almost popped out from the socket. His question after that was exactly like kibum’s question earlier. Sangwook couldn’t help but to let out a small chuckle, amused by the similarities between his son and his future-son-in-law.

Soon after a few Question & Answer session, Sangwook left the newly engage men alone. Letting them to discuss about their upcoming wedding in a month.

“i’m sorry...i couldn’t do anything to change his mind” kibum stated as they were left alone

“it’s okay, i just didn’t expect we are getting married this soon”

“hmm, tell jessica i’m sorry too..” kibum letting his heart bled as he utter the words

“She would understand it.” Was all jonghyun replied.

Both of them lost in their own thought, thinking about their wedding. Kibum had always imagined on how he would plan his wedding by himself, but now he wasn’t sure if he allowed to do that.

“hey jjong, I was wondering why didn’t you reject this arrangement? I mean, you wouldn’t have to marry me if you do that” it took all of kibum courage to ask his fiancé the sensitive question, but he brace himself. He wanted to know. He needed to know.

“dad threaten me. He wouldn’t inherit his property to me if i didn’t marry you.” without realizing it, jonghyun words are stabbing the younger deep inside his heart

You did this because of money?

It took all of kibum will to not to cry, if he wasn’t strong enough. Kibum surely will break down in front of the taller at this very moment.

“oh” it came out a bit hoarse, surely the older didn’t notice that.

“bummie, what is your relationship between minho? did you like him?”

Kibum wanted to laugh hearing the older stupid question, how stupid jonghyun could be?

“I would never like that frog. I rather be alone for the rest of my life than be with Minho” kibum answered, but unfortunately, minho and taemin was standing right behind kibum as he said that.

“I won’t like you either, I have a perfect boyfriend why would i like you, diva!” Minho wraps his muscular arm around his boyfriend shoulder.

“Minho, don’t start it..I’m getting bored hearing you guys quarrel over trivial thing.” Taemin rolled his eyes as he said that, clearly not interested to join his cousin and his boyfriend childish fight.

If kibum didn’t know any better, he would think that jonghyun is jealous of Minho. But it would be impossible, right? Why would he jealous? It wasn’t like the older like him or something.

“By the way, bummie hyung...I heard about the news from aunty, I can’t believe you’re getting married!” taemin being his usual self, jumping excitedly while holding his cousin hand. Kibum letting his lips curve a small smile. After hearing the older true reason of marrying him, he couldn’t bring himself to feel excited for the wedding.
Minho noticed the way kibum reacted when his boyfriend mentioned about the wedding. He could see that the slightly older male aren’t excited at all. It’s true that he and kibum aren’t close enough, but anyone could easily saw the sad look the shorter male had even though he was smiling.

“Where is jinki hyung?” kibum asked after his younger cousin calm down.`

“He said he wanted to rest” was all taemin replied before grabbing his boyfriend hands and dragged the older to-who-know-where.

Jonghyun and kibum were left alone again, but not too long, when their parents decided to interrupt the couple to discuss about the wedding. Kibum and Jonghyun could only nodded their head, agreeing to every single suggestion that sodam had thought.

Kibum slowly enters his rooms and let out a long sigh, completely worn out. He just wanted to lie down and shut himself out. He tried his best to think of anything except jonghyun, he was physically and mentally tired. It took everything of him to not to cry in front of their family when they was discussing about his wedding, but now he was alone, he let the tears slid down shamelessly on his cheek without bothering to wipe them off. He didn’t expect that jonghyun are willing to marry him just because of money, while he is willing to sacrifice his happiness because of their family. He had expected for jonghyun to do the same.

“I told you not to cry alone” come a voice from the corner of the room. Kibum hastily wiped his tears, not wanting the latter saw his tears, even though jinki already saw them. Jinki step closer towards his cousin and wrap his arms around the younger.

As soon as jinki hugged him, a fresh tears stars to make their way down. Kibum returned the hug while squeezing the older shirts.

“he..” *hiccup* “only does this…” *hiccup* “because of money…” *hiccup*

“Shh…” was all jinki could utter, he resists the urge to punch jonghyun on the face. Kibum was already hurting because of Jessica, and now this. Jonghyun’s head seriously needed to be fixed.

“I wanted to call off the wedding, but everyone will be disappointed and I don’t want that” despite his heartache, kibum still thinking of the others, a value that hard to find in someone else. His tears slowly start to subside a bit, only left with a small whimper.

“Bummie, what if jonghyun starts to love you within the time you were married?” jinki asked, even though he knew that jonghyun already love his cousin, but the dino-like male was too proud to admit it.

Kibum let out a small laugh, clearly showed the older that it was impossible.

“Trust me, it could happen if you want” jinki simply stated

“What are you planning on, hyung?” kibum narrowed his eyes towards the older.

“Bummie, I knew you’re doing this also because of jonghyun…Why don’t you make him fall in love with you?”

Kibum could only blink stupidly at his cousin crazy idea.

“Hyung, love cannot be forced” kibum states the obvious, as if jinki didn’t knew that

“I didn’t say anything about force” jinki only let a playful smirk curving on his lips

Kibum widen his feline eyes, as soon as he understood his cousin hidden message.

“You mean, seduce him?” kibum said, hoping that jinki didn’t really mean it. Seeing how the older smiled at his question, kibum once again widen his already wide eyes.

“Are you crazy, hyung? I’m not doing that!” he protests.

Jinki only smiled as he stand up, while patting his cousin shoulder lightly “Think about it first, you have to fight for your happiness, not to wait for it” was all Jinki said before he stepped out from the room.

Being the brightest student he is, only by observing people, Jinki could read them like a book. He knew that jonghyun loves his cousin, but something was restraining the latter. Kibum happiness is with jonghyun, that’s why kibum is willing to marry jonghyun even though he is hurting, as long as jonghyun are with him. Jinki would do anything to make his cousin happy, including helping the younger to seduce his soon-to-be husband.

On the other side, Kibum is having a war with himself, it wasn’t wrong to seduce your own husband-to-be, right? Jinki is right, he needed to fight for his happiness.
