Ordinary Life
PROTOTYPE NO. 1132518 A.M.B.E.R.SIWON POV
“Do you feel anything Amber?” I asked after showing her several photos different stuff like abused animals, happy sceneries or horrifying pictures.
“No uncle. Should I be feeling anything?” she asked blankly.
I was hoping that she’d show even the slightest bit of emotion after seeing the photographs. I heaved a sigh and placed the photos on my table.
“Are you mad at me uncle?” she asked.
“No Amber, I’ll never be mad at you. I’m just frustrated… at myself. It’s been 16 years with you already and I still can’t figure out how to perfect your emotions.” I said while cupping my face in my hands.
“Frustrated? What does frustrated feel like?” she asked.
“You’ll understand me someday, Amber.” I assured.
“It’s okay, you know.” She said as she stared at me. “You said during the meeting that when my dad developed emotions, he was not under your control anymore. Instead of the purpose of research for common goodness, he ended up hurting someone, my mom. I don’t want to end up like him, uncle. I don’t want to hurt people. I guess it would be better if I stay this way, numb.” She said.
I reached out for her hand and held them in between mine. “Amber, your father was a full robot. He was not supposed to feel emotions. But you on the other hand, you are human after all. You deserve happiness and I trust you Amber. I know you won’t hurt anyone.” I assured her.
Just then, an idea popped into my mind. I felt for my phone in my pockets and when I found it, I dialed a number I knew like the back of my hand right away. After a few rings, someone answered on the opposite line.
“Hello, Choi Siwon calling.” I said.
