(NEW) Caution
Alice Turns Into Little Red Riding Hood [REVAMPED]Chapter 18
“Sehun, what are the chances that Jongin might ignore me?”
“He won’t.”
“But what if he does?”
“Serves you right. That’s what you get for ignoring me all the time.”
“Sehun, the only time I ever ignore you is when you’re being dumb.”
“But you almost always ignore me.”
“Exactly.”
Oh Sehun may not be the brightest person in the room, but you knew you weren’t acting any smarter with how nervous you were feeling just by standing in front of the infirmary. If it were any other person, you’d probably be fine. But this was Kim Jongin—probably the most easygoing and cheerful guy in class. To be able to make such a person upset was something you wish you could undo.
“Maybe I shouldn’t do this,” you murmured him hesitantly.
“Why? We’re already here,” Sehun frowned as he glanced at the infirmary.
“I don’t know. I just have this weird feeling…” you mumbled unsurely.
“It’s called being nervous,” Sehun muttered. “Just hurry and make a decision. The hall monitor’s going give us an earful if he spots us.” Sehun clicked his tongue as he looked around the hall cautiously. “We were almost caught when we went to the vending machine. If he saw us again, he’ll get us for sure.”
“Oh, right. I’ll go in then, you go back to class,” you nodded at him. Sehun was about to turn around and leave until you called him back. “Oh, Sehun—“
“What?” he stopped on his heels and turned his head to you.
“Thanks.” you simply smiled. If it weren’t for him, you probably wouldn’t have seized the chance to get to the infirmary in the first place.
“Yeah, whatever.” the blond shrugged indifferently, but you knew he was smiling the moment he turned away from you and headed back to class.
“Don’t forget to take notes for me!” you told him before he got too far to hear you.
Once Sehun was out of sight, you took a deep breath as you faced the door. You raised your hand and gently knocked on the door with the back of your hand before going in. Once you were in the room, you immediately noticed the smell of disinfectant and medicine, causing you to crinkle your nose.
You scanned the area and found no nurse—explained by the desk sign that says ‘On a break’ on the nurse’s table—and rows of empty beds, but you noticed one of the beds was hidden behind a hospital curtain.
“Jongin?” you called out hesitantly.
Not a second after, you could hear someone moving and shifting from the bed behind the curtain, but silence followed after. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion and decided to approach the bed. Slowly, you opened the curtain and peeked inside.
A lump in your throat formed when you saw Jongin sleeping on the bed, his back faced towards you. You couldn’t see his face, but you could tell he was awake.
“Jongin…” you called his name once more, this time softer. “Can I come in?”
Jongin stayed quiet for a moment before sighing. “Are you sure you should be spending your time here instead of class?” he asked in a raspy voice.
“I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t sure,” you answered. “Unless… you don’t want me here?”
“You should be the one who feels that way,” he mumbled, but his voice was clear enough for you to hear.
“Why would you say that?” you frowned.
“Aren’t you upset at me?” Jongin craned his head back a bit to glance at you.
“What?” you widened your eyes.
Hearing the surprise in your voice, Jongin couldn’t help but to pause. The two of you stare at each other for an awkward moment before the male finally sat up and knit his eyebrows together, clearly confused.
“You’re not mad at me?” Jongin asked almost innocently, a tinge of hope laced in his voice.
“Aren’t you the one mad at me?” you asked with apparent bewilderment,
“Why would I be mad at you? I was the one who vented at you!” he exclaimed in an upset tone.
“Vented? Jongin, I was the one who kept prying when I shouldn’t!” you quickly responded in the same manner he used. “I felt so insensitive! That’s why I felt so bad and came here…“
“Oh god,” Jongin buried his face in hands, unsure if he should laugh or sigh. “Alice, you did nothing wrong,” he put down his hands to lock eyes with you.
“But—“
“Earlier at lunch, I was still upset over what happened with Hye Ra,” he cut in with a heavy sigh. “I was trying to keep myself together, but I acted up in front of you when you were only asking if I was okay,” he murmured, guilt thick in his voice. “I felt like as soon as I left the cafeteria. I’m sorry.”
Your tightly knit frown loosened as your troubled expression softened. “… So you really weren’t mad at me?”
“Of course not!” he lifted his gaze to lock eyes with you.
“Are you sure?” you asked again.
“Positive.” he nodded.
You immediately heaved a big of relief. “So, this was all just a misunderstanding?” you asked once more, still quite in disbelief. “Kim Jongin, I thought you were mad at me!” you exclaimed, almost indignantly.
“I thought you were mad at me!” he exclaimed back at you, eyes wide with disbelief.
“There is no way I would’ve been mad at you!” you almost yelled back.
“There was a big chance!” he stressed as he gestured with his arms.
“No!” you scowled.
“I lashed out on you!”
“I probed!”
“But you were—!“
