Onset of a conte

It was pitch dark in the room. She sat still on the wooden chair, refusing to move, afraid that she would trip over anything on the ground once she stood up. She regretted promising him to stay in the room. He had abandoned her, leaving her alone to fend for herself! She was tempted to open her eyes breaking her promise but then again, what could she possibly see? It was complete darkness.

The clock ticked in the dead silence surrounding her, the only audible source besides her own breathing. She cursed the man who led her into the room and requested her to do nothing until he returned.

“Where the heck is he? If he doesn’t come back now I swear I’ll kill him!” She finally ran out of patience and yelled.

“Well you’ve just missed your chance to do so,” said the exact same man who made her suffer for so long without knowing what to do. “Sorry to keep you waiting.”

She opened her eyes, intending to give him a sharp glare, but before she could display any form of anger an inviting cake was placed before her eyes. Her lips curled up unconsciously to form a smile as she checked out the cake. It was her favorite strawberry shortcake. At one glance the cake seemed to be bought from a random confectionary shop but as she examined it further she realized that it was not purchased. It was handmade.

“Happy birthday Han Hyo Joo.”

Her smile grew wider.

So what if she was only left with a few minutes before 22nd ended? That few minutes spent with him were the best birthday gift for her.

Deafening noises reached the living room from the kitchen. It was obvious Changmin had little experience with handling pots and pans. Yunho sighed and walked into the kitchen. He let out a louder sigh when he saw the terrible mess his youngest member had caused due to his hunger for food.

“Changmin…” He started, only to be cut off quickly by the younger one.

“I know I know, hyung. I’ll clear up right now.” Changmin responded hastily as he bent down to pick up the stainless steel saucepan. It was already tiring enough after few consecutive days of performance on stage, he did not wish for another lecture session by the leader.

Yunho shook his head and strode back to the living room where Junsu was watching TV. He flopped down on the sofa and laid his head on Junsu’s shoulders, asking for Yoochun’s whereabouts.

“He’s gone back …home to sleep…” Junsu found himself stuttering out of no reason. The Mirotic concert must have worn him out too much.

Everyone put in their best effort in their 4th album live tour concert. It was only their first stop, there were many more to go. They had appeared livelier than ever on stage and told their fans that they were still energetic, hoping to bring them greater performances. It was true, that they fancied the idea of holding more concerts to delight all their fans, but they had really depleted every single ounce of energy during their songs. 22nd was the last day for their live in Seoul. 3 days were probably not enough for all the Cassopeians but the stage show was satisfying. It was definitely a success for Dong Bang Shin Ki. The five members were exhausted, but truly happy.

They could have turned in like Yoochun who did so many hours ago. They were given leave for the next day. However, the remaining members had their own reasons for staying up in spite of the fatigue.

Changmin felt the need to fill his stomach before heading to the bed. Junsu just finished his phone call with his older twin and was too lethargic to even move towards the room for a sleep. Yunho wanted to wait for his hyung to return from a birthday celebration.

He was not worried that Jaejoong would injure himself elsewhere, that guy could fight without learning Hapkido or Taekwondo. He was more afraid that the manager would call him in the middle of the night and asked for Jaejoong, only to discover that the oldest member’s missing from the TVXQ apartment. They would have gotten into deep trouble and no one, including Jaejoong himself, would like that.

The leader’s eyes were drooping so badly they would close anytime. Changmin just came out of the kitchen with a cup of instant noodles in his hands. He decided not to mess with the cooking equipments and settled for a quick supper. He sat cross-legged on the floor and gazed at the two older members who were lying restlessly on the couch.

“I can’t believe Jaejoong hyung still has so much vigor to bake a cake…” He commented as he lifted the lid of the cup, the noodles should be ready.

“Well… love overcomes everything,.. You know that too, don’t you, Changmin?” Junsu replied, followed by a soft yawn and slight stretch.

Changmin nodded his head. “Yeah, I hope he’s enjoying his date now.”

It was, however, Yunho’s concluding statement that all of them undoubtedly agreed with.

“Well…we all wish for him to be happy but right now, I just wish that he can quickly come back home so that I can go to sleep.”
