Different World

It's Business

“I got the scholarship.”

“You do. Good.”

I saw her face remain unchanged. I know she doesn’t care. It’s better if I walk out of her house as soon as I can. That’s what she’s been waiting for I suppose.

“I’ll leave as soon as I can.”

She took a glance at me.

“Okay. Don’t leave anything behind.”

I was right. She wants me to leave.

“Deh.”

I walk into my room and closes the door.

“Why did you guys leave me?”

I whisper as my tears keeps flowing from my eyes.

I am 15 years old when my parents died in a plane crash. I was left with nothing when my father’s friend swindle his business. I was told to stay with my aunt who are the only blood relation that I have. She doesn’t like me at all and I know it very much. I’m old enough to sense her action and gestures.

I remove my uniform and hang it behind the door. I run my eyes around my small room. I left out an unbelievable laugh.

“Why have I go through all this?”

I whisper as I change into my jersey. I’m going to ease my tension by playing soccer.

                                                                                              ***

“Again?”

“Wae?”

Sulli asks Krystal with a lingering smile.

“Just talk to him Ssul. Why look him from afar?”

Sulli shrugs her shoulder.

“Don’t believe when uncle said that he will get you married to whoever he choose. It’s not like we live in 70’s era.”

Krystal said with a bore expression.

“Don’t talk bad about my appa, you can get kicked out from the school.”

Krystal glares at her bestfriend.

“As if I will stop talking.”

Sulli chuckles.

“I’ll be early for your birthday party.”

Krystal smiles.

“You know how to change the topic right?”

Krystal slurps her mocha shake and wipes .

“Are you leaving now?”

“Yah.”

“Wae? I’m just asking since you finished your drink.”

Krystal sighs.

“Arasseo. I’m leaving. Tell me how he is today.”

Krystal winks at Sulli and walks out of the café with her shopping bag. Sulli calls for the bill and leaves after she paid for their meals.

                                                                                              ***

“Kim Soojung, where did you go?”

Krystal frowns at her brother.

“Oppa, call me Krystal.”

Kibum laughs.

“Wae? I like Soojung. What’s with that english name? Tcchh.”

Krystal glares at him and stomps to her room.

“Waegurae?”

Mrs. Kim walks out from the kitchen with a plate of fruits. She put the plate on the table and sits opposite of her son.

Kibum laughs.

“She pissed off when I call her Soojung.”

Mrs. Kim shakes her head and smiles.

“Don’t Kibum ah.”

“Ara momma. It’s just for fun.”

“Don’t bicker in school.”

“Deh.”

Kibum took a piece of apple and munch it.

“I’m going to play soccer momma.”

“Careful.”

Kibum nods and smiles before he took his bag and walks to his car.

                                                                                              ***

“Minho.”

I turn to the voice and smile.

“Since when had you started workout? You are sweating as hell.”

I just chuckle at his use of words.

“I’ve been here since an hour ago.”

“Again?”

I smile and nod.

“You should have called me.”

“Kenchana Kibum ah.”

He let out a sigh while he eyed me.

I rose from my position and look at him.

“Wae?”

“Ani. I’ll come back.”

He took the towel from my bag and throws it to me.

I smile at his action and wipe my sweat.

Kibum comes again dressed in his jersey. We walk out of the gym and went to the field.

“Alone again?”

I grin.

“You shouldn’t have come Kibum. I just want to release my tension. There still time for my part time and I can’t stay in the house for too long.”

I can hear him sighs.

“I wish your life will be lots better after this man.”

I smile.

“I’ll do my best. Thank you for always be by my side.”

“Yah, I’m your friend man. Don’t thank me often.”

I smile again.

“You are just too kind Kibum. I’ll never forget your help.”

“Make sure you won’t or I’ll hunt you.”

He chuckles as he said that.

“Come on, let’s play.”

He runs to the centre with the ball. I breathe out and run to him before we start playing the ball with just the two of us on the huge soccer field.

                                                                                              ***

“They played with the two of them again.”

Sulli smiles as she watches them from the rooftop.

She’s been watching them since six months before. She was studying alone on the rooftop when she heard laughing from the soccer field. That’s when she saw him for the first time.

He was tall, his body was tough. His face is handsome. For the first time since she was born 17 years ago, she feels her heart thumping. She knows exactly the feeling. She knows that she had fallen for the guy that was kicking the ball with his charming leg.

Sulli grins when the two boys bicker over the goal.

She went to her table and sat on her chair. She can’t stop smiling.

“When will I get the courage to face him? Should I do as Krystal says?”

She flips her poem book and starts reading it.

Love At First Sight by Virgo

Is there such a thing as love at first sight?
That's the question I used to ask
Until I laid eyes on you.
How is it possible to feel so much for a
stranger, a passerby?
Love has no limits, no color, no time.
That's when I realized I had fallen in love -
Love at first sight.

Sulli chuckles.

“It really suits me.”

She closes the book and put it inside her bag when the sky had become darker.

“I should go home.”

She took a last glance on the boys before she took the stair down and walks to her car.

                                                                                              ***

“Late as always.”

Sulli smiles and kisses her father’s cheek.

“Have you eaten my dear?”

“Yeh, with Krystal.”

Mr. Choi nods.

“Go and take a rest dear. You look tired.”

“Deh appa.”

Sulli climbs up the staircase and went inside her room. She was going to removes her uniform when she hears a knock on her door.

“Come in.”

“Miss Sulli, would you like to eat?”

Sulli smiles.

“Ani ahjumma. I had eaten.”

“Do you want anything else then?”

“I will get it by myself ahjumma. Don’t pamper me.”

She chuckles.

“Ani Miss Sulli, I just do my job.”

Sulli shakes her head.

“I am a grown up lady ahjumma. I can do everything myself. How can I get married if you won’t let me do anything?”

“You are getting married?”

Sulli laughs.

“Ahjumma, what I mean is I need to practice doing house chores. In case I got married someday and my husband doesn’t like having a maid.”

The old lady nods and smile.

“Miss Sulli, call me if you need anything neh.”

“Deh ahjumma.”

Sulli was about to walk in her bathroom when she stops and turn to her maid.

“Don’t take the laundry basket with you.”

She glares with a smile before she walks inside her bathroom.

*Not in Minho’s POV*

“You are early boy.”

Minho smiles to his boss.

“Deh.”

He put on his apron and starts taking control of the coffee machine.

“I’m going home now. Please take care of the shop neh. I’ll be here an hour before closing time.”

“Deh sir.”

He smiles in front of the counter while taking orders.

He works diligently.

He starts working there since last two years. Even that he is just a part timer; the boss adores him for his punctuality and well manner.

He treats the customers with smiling face. He never shows a frown even though his life is full of sorrow.

“You aren’t leaving yet boss?”

“In a while boy. I’m waiting for my wife. She will fetch me.”

Minho nods and smiles before he walks to the empty table and wipes it. He took the empty glasses and cups with him.

“Just do what I told you to boy. That’s not your job.”

“Kenchana.”

He walks to the counter again and attend to the customers.

The boss shakes his head.

“If only all the kids are as diligent as you.”

He just show his smile when his boss said that.

“Our stories were different boss.”

“Guess you are right Minho.”

He smiles and pats Minho’s shoulder.

“I’ll be back.”

Minho bows to his boss and continue busying himself.
