Life

It's Business

Flashback

She is there again, my dream girl. She was so beautiful in white. She was perfect when she swing the racquet. The way she laugh; the way she pouts and the way she aim the tennis ball.

I chuckled.

Why am I only watching at her like a fool?

Why don’t I meet her like a man?

But I can do nothing.

She is too high for me to reach.

She is a princess while I’m just a penniless guy who lives in a small house.

I smiles when she win again. She is just too good. She success in everything she do. And on top of that she is beautiful. Very beautiful.

I rose from my seat when she took her bag and walks to the changing room. That’s enough for today. Time for my class.

I took my bag and walks to my class. Looking at her this early morning will definitely give a different aura for me to study better.

“Seat here.”

I smile and raise my hand to my friend. He is the only friend I got in this school.

The nicest guy ever. He is considerate. Always think of me. Sometime I feel that he acts like a sister or a mother.

I smile at him as I took the space beside him.

“Where have you been?”

“Around.”

He nods and took out an invitation.

“What is it?”

I asked as I receive the card.

“My sister’s birthday party. Make sure you come okay.”

“Me? How can I?”

I answer reluctantly.

“Why?”

I didn’t answer. Even though he never cares about his status, but what about his family?

“Are you thinking about my parents buddy?”

I nod.

“Don’t worry. I told them about you. My momma really wants to see you. Remember one thing; don’t always keep your head down. You are special.”

I smile a bit.

“I’ll try.”

“Make sure you do.”

The teacher comes in and we start paying attention to him.

This is one thing that will change my life.

I must do well.

I have to change my life.

                                                                                              ***

“Ssul.”

Sulli turns around just to meet her best friend glowing face.

“Krystal.”

Krystal gives her a quick hug before she releases her.

“Come with me after school neh. I’m thinking of doing some shopping.”

Sulli look at her schedule and smiles.

“Okay. My class will finish at 2.15 p.m.”

“Mine is at 1.30 p.m. so, I’ll wait you in café neh.”

Sulli nods. She waves at Krystal before she turns back to walk to her English class.

Sulli is a bright girl. She is pretty, she is kind. She is a thoughtful girl. Everyone in the high school loves her. Even though her father is the president of the school, she is down to earth.

She always smiles. She never shows a straight face or a frown. She never late in her classes. She never skips any projects or assignment. She never took advantage of her status. That’s why she has no haters.

“Miss Choi, please read this poem for us.”

Sulli smiles at her teacher and walks to the front. She bows to her and the class before she starts reading the poem.

As You Go Through Life by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Don’t look for the flaws as you go through life;
And even when you find them,
It is wise and kind to be somewhat blind
And look for the virtue behind them.
For the cloudiest night has a hint of light
Somewhere in its shadows hiding;
It is better by far to hunt for a star,
Than the spots on the sun abiding.

The current of life runs ever away
To the bosom of God’s great ocean.
Don’t set your force against the river’s course
And think to alter its motion.
Don’t waste a curse on the universe
Remember it lived before you.
Don’t at the storm with your puny form,
But bend and let it go over you.

The world will never adjust itself
To suit your whims to the letter.
Some things must go wrong your whole life long,
And the sooner you know it the better.
It is folly to fight with the Infinite,
And go under at last in the wrestle;
The wiser man shapes into God’s plan
As water shapes into a vessel.

Sulli finishes with another bow and gains applauses by the whole class.

“Thank you Miss Choi.”

Sulli bows at her teacher and walks back to her seat. She stares absentmindedly at the poem as she looks back on her life.

“We have to strive to get a better life.”

She sighs and focuses on her teacher explanation about the poem.
