the escape

The Safest Place on Earth

She ran as fast as she could, chased by two men holding flashlights and guns, shouting and calling her to stop.  Pie Mindara, a beautiful, long haired twenty-six-year-old woman running for her life.  It was already 12:00 midnight and the night was so quiet.  She noticed a house that looked familiar, so she went at the back of the house and knocked asking for help.  The door opened, Aunt In in in age 50’s, she just met two days ago in a supermarket, had problem with her arm so she helped her carry the grocery bags and gave her a ride to her house.

“What happened, what happened to you?” Aunt In asked her to come in.

“They killed him!” Pie cried.  “I saw them with my own eyes and they saw me too!  I don’t know what to do; they wanted to kill me!”

“Do you know these men?” Aunt In asked and gave Pie a glass of water.

“Yes, I do. I know them; I know their faces, their names and the man they killed too. I was just about to go home from the store, I felt I was going to vomit, so I went back of the building, then I saw them, the man was asking for a chance but they killed them!”

“Did you report to the police?” Aunt In asked calmly.

“That’s the problem Aunt In, they’re cops.”

“Oh my God!  I think you need to go somewhere else.  Aunt In shook her head. “It’s not safe here.”

“I don’t know where to go.  They know me; they are looking for me.

“Okay then.”  Aunt In pulled the drawer and picked pen, paper and wrote the address.  “Here, go to Nan, I have a house there.  Take a bus at 3:00 am but first, you have to change your clothes, cut your hair, I have some hair dye in the bathroom, I’ll give you money.  I’ll drive you to the bus station.”

“But how’s your arm?”

“It’s okay now; I can move my arm already, thank you by the way.  Okay go now, change.”  Aunt In pointed her finger the direction to the bathroom.

They head straight to the bus station.  Pie now is blond; she cut her hair short with bangs that hides her left eye.  Nobody can recognize her anymore because of her new look.

“Okay, here’s the money.  Get a ticket and go straight to the bus.  Don’t lose the address; show that to the tricycle driver when you got there.  I have a niece there her name is Kim.  She’s a tom but nice.  I’ll call her when I got home that you’ll come.  By the way Pie, take care.”

“Thank you Aunt In, I’ll call you as soon as I get there.”  Pie smiled.

“No need, Pie.  Don’t call me, I’ll call you.”
