I just randomly made this up so there's a lot of blanks so I'll them up a bit more.

I dont know what species they are, but whatever they are, once they come of age they have to find their mate before a new moon or they'd die or turn to ashes or something.

For example, the age of umm mating is 20, so after their birthday they have to find their mate (if they havent) and umm 'mate' before a new moon occurs or they'd die. But only the one who is of age dies, the one who isnt will get a new mate who they will have to find.
