Chapter 10

Let Me See You (HIATUS)

"Shush, don't walk so loudly!" Minseok scolded his friends in a hushed whisper.

"Yah, you stepped on my foot!" Jongdae hissed at an innocent looking Luhan, who frantically started apologizing to the younger.

"Okay, stop. This isn't working." Kris straightened up from his crouching position so that he was standing straight. The others followed their leader, while Minseok stayed in his position.

"How about we just walk in through the front door?" Jongdae gave a sarcastic suggestion.

The six boys were sneaking at the side of Jonguk's house toward the backyard. The area between the gate that encircles the property and house was tight and narrow, resulting in them having to crouch down and be cramped together.

Jonguk had left for the entire week to accompany a few of his students at a piano recital in Seoul. Minseok thought it was a great chance for Saehee to meet his friends before school starts. He worried about Saehee’s safety and making sure that she’ll always have someone familiar to go to if something ever happened at school. Both Saehee and Minseok knew that Jonguk most likely wouldn’t allow strangers to enter his house, so he had to come up with a way to get his friends in without getting found out by any of the workers on the property.

"This is more fun! I even left the piano room's window unlocked so we can climb in without getting caught." Minseok's eyes twinkled with mischief.

"Why are we doing this again?" Lay asked, bewildered.

"Because, my dear Lay, Saehee's uncle wouldn't want strange boys in his house," Minseok answered.

"You're one to talk, Hyung." Tao scoffed at Minseok who was still trying to be stealthy.

"Come on, we're almost there." Minseok took the lead, while the others remained standing and walked normally in a straight line.

"Over here." Though they were in the wide open space of the backyard, Minseok had the group stay close to the wall of the house in case any maids or guards were nearby. Minseok led them to one of the windows, and then carefully pushed it open. Minseok let out a quiet snicker at his great idea. He had each male climb in one by one until they were all inside. “See, my idea was flawless.” Minseok patted his own back.

“Excuse me,” a female voice was heard in the room. The boys all gasped in surprise, and turned around to see who the voice belonged to. It was Eunjung. She had been in the room the entire time, dusting the little ornaments scattered around the room.

“What are you boys doing?” She couldn’t help but laugh at the teens’ crazy antics.

“Eunjung-shi! We weren’t doing anything. We’re just here to play piano. And then after we play piano we’ll be very happy. And after we’re happy we’ll be on our merry way.” Minseok’s words came out jumbled and made no sense.

Eunjung paused, trying to process his words in her mind. “You know my name?” she asked, tilting her head to the side in wonder.

“Saehee talks about you sometimes.” Minseok answered truthfully.

“Really?” Her eyes brightened up, “What does she say?” The topic of the situation took an unexpected change.

“Well, she told me about how she talked to you for the first time and that you’re really kind.”

“I see,” she looked overjoyed at hearing that. “It’s fine if you and your friends stay. I’ll let the other workers here know about your visit so you won’t end up being thrown out.” Eunjung said.

The six boys bowed politely at the maid as she exited the room. When they were left alone, Luhan broke out in laughter. “Wow, that was close,” he chuckled.

“She scared me.” Lay patted his heart to get it to back to a normal rhythm.

“We could’ve been charged with breaking and entering. In this case, just entering,” Jongdae glared at Minseok.

“Sorry,” Minseok held his hands in the air in apology.

“Yeah yeah, it’s fine, just go get her.” Kris pushed Minseok towards the door.

“Go go, we’re excited to meet her, you know.” Tao added.

---

Upstairs, Saehee was preparing herself to meet Minseok's friends. She had stayed up late thinking about what she should wear and practicing how she should greet them. She finally decided on a sun yellow, knee length dress with long sleeves. It was formal, yet still casual. Since she doesn’t step out of the house often, her clothes were bought by her parents and workers. She wore whatever they chose, and however they matched the clothes to be worn. It was the first time she worried about her appearance.

Minseok knocked on Saehee's door. "Saehee, we're all here now."

Saehee checked herself one last time before opening the door. Minseok's jaw dropped at the sight of Saehee all dressed up.

"What are you starring at?"

Minseok coughed to clear his throat before speaking. He hadn't noticed that he was starring so obviously at her. "You look pretty." You look more than pretty! Really, really beautiful...and cute! Minseok mentally argued with himself about what word fit Saehee the best.

Saehee blushed at his compliment. "Thanks."

Minseok escorted Saehee down the stairs, where the other boys were waiting in the piano room. “I wonder if she’s cute,” Jongdae wondered aloud. Kris smacked the back of Jongdae’s head.

“Ouch!” He rubbed his head furiously.

“Like you haven’t thought about it,” Jongdae mumbled. It was true. Not only did they wonder what she looked like, but also the kind of girl Saehee was—the kind of girl that interested their Minseok. When they were all going through their phases of having crushes, Minseok was the only one he didn’t. He seemed almost reluctant to love someone.

The boys’ light chatter stopped once seeing the door open. Minseok walked in first, and then moved to the side for Saehee to be seen. She had her eyes set on the floor. Saehee placed her hands behind her back to hide her shaking hands.

The group stood up simultaneously, bowing to show their respect. They were all anxious to talk to her. “How old are you?” Luhan, being the first one to say something, asked curiously. They all knew absolutely nothing about her. Minseok was too secretive.

“Six—“ She stuttered.

“Do you have any hobbies?” Tao interrupted her answer.

“Uh, I—“

“What kind of music do you like?” Lay popped in.

“I like—“

“You’re so cute and small,” Jongdae said with a smirk.

"I...uhh...” her eyes wandered everywhere except the people talking to her. Her eyes became watery out of anxiety and her jaw trembled. She was panicking. I can’t do this. I can’t. I can’t, Saehee repeated in her mind.

“Sorry." Saehee slowly backed up out of the room, knocking her shoulder on the door frame, before running for the safety of her bedroom.

“Saehee!” Minseok shouted, but showed no effort to run after her. His heart thumped painfully. He pulled out the clear container of white pills from his pants pocket, and then swallowed one in one swift movement.

Luhan quickly went to Minseok’s side and rubbed his back in comforting circles. Minseok sat down on the piano bench, resting his head in the palm of his hands. “I’m stupid.”

“Did we do something wrong?” Lay asked, guilt shown on his face.

“No, it wasn’t you guys…She’s schizophrenic.”

Jongdae face-palmed and said, “Why didn’t you inform us about that earlier before we freaked her out?”

“I didn’t want you guys to hold back just because of her condition.” The group silenced, immediately understanding Minseok’s reasoning.

“Let’s give her some time to calm down. We’ll try this again another day, “Kris announced, folding his arms over his chest.

Chapter 12: aww, that last part was just really cute. I'd thought you'd just make everything progress into the ' i love you' and 'i love you too' stage but I was wrong. Thank god for that, they still have a cute innocent relationship ^.^ I don't know, it really makes me happy to see the two of them acutally having a lot in common and i loved how you slowly revealed each one of these similarities as the story progresses.
