The two sat in silence for about two hours. All that could be heard were birds chirping, and the sound of traffic coming from the nearby highway. Although he wouldn’t admit it, Kai felt worried for the girl, and didn’t want to leave her alone. At one point, the girl asked him why he wasn’t heading back to school, but he only shrugged his shoulders, and the two were once again left in silence. He glanced over at her saw that she was concentrating, her eyebrows were furrowed and she had a serious look on her face. He couldn’t help but want to smooth her brows out with his thumb. It’s probably about 3rd period, I should probably head back, she thought to herself, before releasing a dismal sigh.

If school made her want to kill herself, why would she want to go back, Kai thought to himself, before he too sighed. Going back was the right thing to do, he knew that, but he couldn’t bring himself to tell her.

He was shocked when he heard her speak up, “We should head back to school,” she said in a gentle, but firm tone, sounding as if she was trying to convince herself rather than just telling Kai. Although her voice was firm, she wasn’t exactly sure if that’s what she should do. I don’t want to go back, Kai heard her think to herself, before she began to walk in the direction of the school.

Kai followed her silently leaving about a three foot gap in-between them, and silence all around them. He looked up at her with his dull eyes, and couldn’t help but wonder what she had been thinking. Ever since he got his ability, there wasn’t one time that he had actually wanted to know anyone’s thoughts, but now he wanted to know her thoughts. He wanted to know what pushed her to make the decision of self-harm. And although he didn’t know it, he wanted to just get to know her. His mind was in a complete frenzy by time they reached the school. Kai was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn’t even realize that they were already in school. His thoughts were interrupted when he bumped into the girl who had stopped at her classroom door, he hand resting on the knob. She was scared to walk in, and without even having to read her mind, Kai knew it. Kai slightly pushed her aside and opened the door. He bowed to the teacher and apologized for them being late, before he headed to the back of the room and sitting in the seat next to the window. The girl watched him as he did so, wide-eyed. Kai focused his attention outside the window. He glanced over at the girl, who was still standing in the same spot, her eyes wide and mouth slightly agape and heard her thoughts, what? He’s in this class? Who is he?  When their eyes met, she quickly looked away. She then quickly shook her head, as if she were shaking the thoughts out of her mind, causing Kai to smirk at her quirky, but cute actions.

The teacher interrupted both their thoughts when she told the girl to sit down, the girl listened immediately and quickly headed to her seat, keeping her head down to avoid meeting Kai’s gaze.

During class, her mind kept wandering back to that boy. Who is he? she wandered.

When the bell rang, she glanced over at him. He had still been staring out the window, none of his books were open, and she noticed something she hadn’t noticed before. He was…. Handsome.

"Ji-Eun!” the girl next to her called out, causing her to jump. She had been so lost in her own thoughts that she hadn’t even noticed her friend, Suzy, staring at her.

Suzy’s eyes wandered over to where her friend’s eyes were practically glued too, and saw Kai, as he got up to head outside, which is what he normally does during the break.

“Who is he?” Ji-Eun asked unconsciously, he eyes not leaving Kai.

When Suzy heard Ji-Eun's question her eyes widened, and was genuinly baffled as to why Ji-Eun didn't know who he was. “Who is that?” She repeated before continuing, “Only the most handsome boy in the school!”, Suzy said, matter-of-factly.

“Ahh so he must be popular with the girls.” Ji Eun said, slightly disappointed.

“No. Well, yeah. A LOT of girls like him, but he won’t even give any of them the time of day. Well, he doesn’t give anyone the time of day. He’s always by himself, and from what I’ve noticed, he isn’t really much of a people person, if you know what I mean.” she continued, shaking her head.

The two’s conversation was abruptly interrupted by Ok Taecyeon. Taecyeon was ranked number one in the school before Ji-Eun came. He hated her for taking his spot, and he wasn’t afraid to show it. Everyday he harassed her and each day got worse and worse.

“Hello, .” he said in a disgusted tone, as he sat on Ji-Eun’s desk.

Ji-Eun tried to ignore him, which only made him more angry.

The night before his parents scolded him for not getting number one. Seeing Ji-Eun ignore him just provoked him even more until something within him snapped, and within a split second he pulled Ji-Eun up by her hair.

Everyone in the class froze. Everyone knew he hated her, but his hatred never resorted to violence. Nobody knew what to do, and everyone just watched silently.

“I’ll make you pay. Today, you’ll learn your lesson.” He said as he began to drag her out of the classroom only to collide with someone. Kai.

Kai looked the guy up and down, his eyes moving slowly and uninterestedly. Soon his gaze fell  upon Ji-Eun, his expression not changing. He wondered if he should just walk away, why should I get involved, he thought to himself, but those thoughts vanished when his eyes met with Ji-Eun’s. They were filled with helplessness and worry. He closed his eyes, not wanting to hear her thoughts.

After opening his eyes, he directed his gaze back at the guy. He still wore his bored expression, but his eyes looked different. They were filled with anger, and pure hatred. “Let her go.” he said lowly, so the others wouldn’t hear..

Taecyeon scoffed at Kai and went to walk past him, but was suddenly pushed against the wall, causing everyone in the class to jump. Kai’s hand was firmly grasped around Taecyeon’s throat. Kai smirked at the guy, with the same hate filled eyes. After a few seconds he let go, and walked back into the class, Ji-Eun following closely behind.
