KPOP Q&A.

Okay, so I found this really old unanswered question in my ask.fm box from like...6 months ago. Very old. But, it was a very awesome question. I should mentally slap myself for not answering it sooner... *SPOLIERS AHEAD*

Anonymous asks: What do you think is a common scenario in korean dramas?

I've seen plenty of dramas to know how things usually turn out in the end. As some of you may know, Korean dramas usually tend to the young-adult women viewers (around 16-35), meaning there is usually going to be a young woman, or handsome older man, as the main character. If this is the case, expect two other characters of the opposite (or, rarely, if they play that way, the same) to be in love with the main. Of course, they may not realize it at first sight, but gradually, they will fall in love hith him/her.

Rivalry (and Hilarity) ensues.

Expect one to be the jerk or to be completely rude to the main (I guess to hide there true feelings) and the other to be sweet and send as many signals as they can to her. Early in the series, Mr. Sweetheart will see that Mr. Jerk's behavior towards the main is making her uncomfortable. Every time this happens, he will swoop down and save the day (or, more specifically, her heart). Sometimes, his kind gestures will me push aside as a friendly act and not as an act of love. Later in the series, Mr. Jerk will start to soften, seeing as some of there actions may hurt the main emotionally. He will then become Mr. Jerk(-At-First).

However, even though Mr. Sweetheart looks like her type, she will almost always remain loyal for Mr. Jerk(-At-First).

Still don't get it?

Let's name the main character A, and the two lovers B (Mr. Jerk(-At-First)) and Z (Mr. Sweetheart).

Even if A+C= <3, A+B= A Happy Ending.

Maybe A and C will test out the dating waters, but find it better they remain friends. Even if that doesn't happen, at the end, when A and B are finally together, C will realize it's gonna be what it's gonna be. The Korean Drama God doesn't want it to be.

For this, I'm going to use "You're Beautiful" as an example.

The main girl, Go Mi-Nyeo, is posing as her twin brother, who is in the US for correction surgery. The two boys, Hwang Taekyeong and Kang Shinwoo discover this and develop crushes on her (of course, Jeremy discovers it too, but by then it was too late to add him in my triangle). Both of them didn't actually like her since they met her, but they slowly started to like her. Taekyeong acted as a jerk even after he found out her secret, whereas Shinwoo knew but didn't say, instead dropping (not so)subtle hints of affection. Of course, Minyeo friendzones Shinwoo and instead acts like a lost puppy to Taekyeong.

I haven't seen the ending yet (I was the one person that refused to watch it on SBS), but I can pretty much predict it based off of my theory.
