Unfortunate Event #9 — Missing Supposed Soulmate.

When you awoke, you could feel the coldness against your bare face. Slowly, you opened your eyes to a bright whiteness, the whiteness of the snow. Confused, you slowly sat up, only to find that your chest hurt a lot. Finally, you looked down at your chest and saw the bullet wound. Gently, you slid your hand over it. The blood was all dried up and the wound had closed up already. You looked at the ground and saw the bullet, blood crusted. You looked around and gasped. On the ground, dead policemen were scattered everywhere. Every single one of them was dead. Red snow was everywhere. The sky was a light, yet gloomy gray. You stood up, wobbling a bit. You couldn't help but cry at the scene. Had your father done all of this? You leaned against a tree and stared at the sky, letting the tears drip down. So much had happened to you in so little time. Then you suddenly thought of Leo. Instantly you got off the tree and looked around. He wasn't anywhere. You couldn't help but stare at all the policemen again. "I need to... I need to get away..." You stumbled to say to yourself as you started to run. Your chest pain slowed you down and your weakness in your legs made you crash into trees and bushes often. After an hour of crashing and falling, you finally found the outskirts of the city. Desperate, you searched your pocket for your phone, but it was gone. So upset, you banged your head on the ground and started crying again. "Little girl, where did you come from?" A deep-voiced man asked. Looking up, you saw an old man, in his late 70's. Sitting up, your tilted your head politely and he nodded back. Then you looked at the ground and slowly, you told him the whole story. You told him everything from the start  until where you were now. He listened to it all and when you finished, he bent over and sat on the sidewalk curb. The man patted the space beside him and you crawled over to sit beside him. "Don't cry anymore, it will only hurt your eyes." He said. Obediently, you wiped your eyes and stopped. "Good. Now, are they still in there?" He asked, gesturing towards the forest. You nodded quietly. He took out his phone and called 911. After he finished, he hung up and hugged you. Since you were so in need of care, you hugged him back. The elder your hair slowly. "I used to have a granddaughter... about your age... She would always come to me crying, or I would find her crying... You remind me of her.." The elder said quietly. "W-What happened to her...?" You asked. Slowly, he pulled away from you and looked at the ground. "She had a heart attack..." He said slowly. You stared at his teary eyes and bit your bottom lip. "I'm sorry..." You said quietly. He smiled at you and ruffled your hair. "When I was your age, I was crazy for love. Ha... The adventures my wife and I had!" He said. He looked at your eyes and saw you still weren't cheered up. Sighing, he put his hand on your shoulder and added, "Look, once you grow old, you're old. Think of these horrors as... things that will make your youth more interesting. Imagine if you just dated that Leo and nothing happened. Wouldn't that be boring? But through this, it will not only make it more interesting, but it will make you two trust each other more. There's a good side to everything, yes?" He looked at you, waiting for your reply. For a few minutes, you stared at the ground, thinking about his words. "Neh... but I don't even know where he is..." You said slowly. "Well, make this boring time with me disappear and go find him! And don't worry, I'll make sure this massacre is cleaned up, okay?" He said, patting your back in encouragement. You couldn't help but laugh and stand up. "Thank you!" You said modestly as you bowed. He tilted his head and shooed you away. Smiling, you slowly started walking down the street, but then you stopped. "Wait! Where do I even start?" You asked as you turned around. You blinked in disbelief. He was gone. A cold shiver ran down your back as you turned around and walked down the street. You quickly zipped your jacket and hugged yourself as you kept walking. "Where would he go...?" You asked yourself. Inside, you hoped that he wasn't hurt. Daringly, you decided to walk to his parent's house. In a few minutes, you reached it and knocked on the door nervously. It immediately opened and his mother stared at you. "Is Leo there...?" You asked nervously. She shut the door on you. You took a few steps back in disbelief. "Did she just shut the door on me??" You asked madly in your mind. Sighing, you decided not to bother anymore. Surely, he wouldn't just leave you and go home? What if he was still in the woods? Running, you were determined that he was probably still in there. "Good thing his house is still in the outskirts of the city." You said in your mind to try to motivate yourself. It was a somewhat brief run. The sirens could be heard, and you knew they were already in there. You just entered the woods and you felt weak somehow. Suddenly, the bullet wound in your chest started to ache immensely. You screamed in pain as you fell over, crashing into a thick bush. Unfortunately, it was a dead rose bush. Screaming again, you crawled out of the bush and stood up, panting in pain as you tried to keep running. As you did, you pulled out withered up thorns that stabbed your skin. You were sure there were more, but you were more focused on finding Leo first. Finally, you made it to the ambulances and looked around. They were loading the dead bodies onto stretchers, while a few tow trucks dragged the police cars away. But Leo was still gone. Your father was gone, too. You walked around, trying to see if maybe he was in the ambulances. "Sweetie!! You need to get to the hospital!" A nurse said as she grabbed your arm. You turned around. "No! I'm fine!" You said as you shook her off your arm. She sighed. "Kids." She said in her mind. "You won't have to go on a stretcher." She said. "I need to find my boyfriend first..." You said, although you weren't sure if you could call him your boyfriend yet. "Honey, you're going to die of infection." She said again as you kept walking. You didn't stop walking. Suddenly, she remembered yesterday that she treated a patient with multiple bullet wounds. "Wait! Is your boyfriend's name Leo?" She called out. Your eyes jerked up and you turned around. "Is he..." You started to say. The nurse nodded. "I treated him yesterday... We found him near the park... He seemed to be going somewhere..." The nurse said as she remembered. Then she looked at you. "Well, would you like to hop in now?" She said as she gestured towards the ambulance. You sighed. "Yeah..." You said shamefully as you sat in the front seat. The nurse closed the door for you and after they loaded a stretcher into the vehicle, the driver sped off. You leaned against the door as you stared out the window. "Making your youth more interesting..." You mumbled as you thought of the man's words.
