Unfortunate Event #6 — Taking Away Your Advocate.

"WOOLA!" You exclaimed cheerfully as you set the bowl of kimchi before him. He crumpled the paper in his fists and stared in astonishment. "Wah... You cook fast." He said truthfully. You set your bowl down too and sat beside him, not that close though. He quickly started eating and within less than 30 minutes he finished. Leo, however, could not hide it anymore. While you were eating, he quickly opened his fists and uncrumpled it. "What's that?" You asked curiously as you stopped eating and looked up. Leo inhaled deeply. "Your parents are gone." He said quickly. You dropped your chopsticks onto the floor. "What do you mean?" You demmanded, raising your voice. Leo looked into your eyes, and mentally you knew to calm down. He inhaled again. "You're adopted." He said plainly. "I know that already." You blurted out, remembering the man's words. "They're not coming back... since you should've found your real father...." He added. "WHAT?" You screamed in horror. "They left me just like that?!" You screamed again. Leo nervously gave you the letter. You read it and then shredded it to pieces. Throwing the pieces on the floor, you cried your eyes out. Within minutes, your knees crumpled beneath you and you fell onto the ground. Not bothering to get up, you stayed there as the puddle of tears grew. Leo stared at you, unable to do anything for a few minutes. Clearly, too many things were happening at once. "What to do......!" He said in his head. Finally thinking of something, Leo bent over and your hair gently, calming you down a little bit. "Hey... If it makes you feel any better... I'm never going to leave you... " He said in a soft tone. Your tears slowed down immensely and you looked up at him, sniffling. "You're doing too much for me..." You said with a trembling voice. Leo smiled slightly. "Says the girl who stayed beside my hospital bed for a month." He replied quietly. At that, you turned your head away and smiled at the ground embarrassingly. "No more crying, can we eat?" He said hastily as he looked at the kimchi. Your eyes jerked up and you glanced at him. Wiping your tears, you could see a glint in his eyes. "I'm starting to think I have competition with food...." You say teasingly to brighten up the mood as you sat up and brushed invisible dirt off your jacket. Although you stopped crying, your eyes stung a little. "At the moment food is winning. Let's eat!" He said before stuffing his mouth. You sighed and started eating yours, but you weren't even halfway finished when he set his empty bowl down onto the table. You stopped eating and stared at him. "D-Do you want me to g-get you more....?" You asked. Leo gave you a big grin. You instantly stood up and headed to the kitchen, hiding your shocked expression from him as you turned your back. "Oh my God..." You muttered under your breath. Quickly you made another bowl and returned to set it before him, again. "Aha so fast!" He said before stuffing his face. You sat there and watched him, every second. "I feel like a creep..." You said in your head. "But what else... stare at the ground?" You added. You leaned back on the couch and stared at your hands instead. "Kamsahamnida!" He suddenly said. You jumped and looked at the empty bowl. "A-Ah...." You said embarrassingly. He smiled at you, a special glint in his eyes. "I like your cooking." He said. "Thank you!" You answered quickly before showing off a big smile. Leo reaches over and ruffles your hair. He then yawned. "Wha? You're tired?" You asked him. He shook his head. "I'm fine" He said quickly. Out of surprise, he hugged you, pushing your head toward his chest. "Thanks for worrying." He said sweetly. You couldn't help but let your head lean on his chest. You felt so comfortable there. "Want to watch TV?" You asked quietly. He let go of you and nodded. Reaching for the remote, you the TV. You both ended up cuddling while watching. And after hours of leaning on his chest and his arm around you, his breathing changed. "Oppa...?" You asked as you slightly pushed his shoulder. He was sound asleep. You could even hear a very faint snore. You giggled quietly before gently taking his arm off of you. Gently, you picked up a blanket and put it over him. You turned off the TV when it came to a quiet moment. Then, you picked up the empty bowls and chopsticks and headed into the kitchen. As you started to do the dishes, you heard a faint knocking noise. You nearly jumped. What if it was your so-called father? Cautiously, you walked over to the backdoor and opened it. Instead of a man, it was a somewhat old woman and possibly her husband behind her. "A-Annyeong." You said politely as you bowed respectfully. They bowed back. "I believe my son is here...?" She asked. "OH! Yes he's in the living room sleeping!" You say as you lead them to the living room. Leo's mother sat down on the couch and her son's hair. His father stood there, as if examining him. Suddenly, questions struck you. "It's been a little more than a month since he's been in a coma... why didn't they visit him back then? Why now? How come they weren't there for him?" You asked in your mind. "How did they even know he was here?" You asked even more. The questions swirled in your mind and gave you a small headache, but you stayed calm for his parents. "Sweetie, when did he wake up?" His umma asked. You gave them a shocked look. "He woke up this morning.... " You said before asking, "If you know he's been in a coma, how come you never visited him? How did you know he was here?" The room was silent as both of his parents looked at the ground. "I couldn't bear seeing my son all wounded... I probably would've hurt myself..." His father replied with a hoarse voice. Then he added, "I got a call from the hospital an hour ago... They said he went home with the girl who stayed by his bed the whole time... Then I remembered how he always talked about you and how you finally paid attention to him..." Suddenly a smile came across his face. "It was the first time he ever talked about a girl... He was so happy..." His mother said. With these words, your heart seemed to jump out of you. He really liked you. Suddenly his parent's faces turned gloomy. "But after I heard he was in a coma because of some kind of physical attack..." The man started to say. Suddenly you had a bad feeling hovering over you. "I want to know the whole story..." He finished. You gulped. His father sat down on the other couch, waiting for your explanation. "Th-There was a man... he tried to kill Leo because..." Your voice trailed off. "Because?" His mother asked. "H-He didn't want him dating me...." You said finally. They glared at you. "Who is this man?" The woman demanded. ".... S-Supposedly my father..." You said while trembling. And as you feared, there came the worst. "What?" His father blurted out. "So this is because of you?" His mother asked in an angry tone. You sat there wide-eyed and in fear. Speechless, that's what you were. "Your father doesn't want him dating you? I don't want Leo dating you." His father said angrily. "I-I... " You said, your voice trailing off. You couldn't say anymore. "I deserve this.." You said in your head. "HE COULD'VE DIED!" His mother screamed at you, making you wince and look down. You didn't dare meet their gaze. "I'm sorry..." You said so quietly, they barely heard it. "Save it. Tell your father we said hello and goodbye." His father said rapidly. You clenched your fists to keep yourself from doing anything stupid. "Honey... Wake up Leo... we're going home." His father said quietly before standing up. Quickly, his mother shook his shoulder. "Son wake up." She whispered. Your heart started to shatter as Leo sat up and looked around, puzzled. "Wh-" He started to say, but his mom cut him off. "Leo, let's go home." She said calmly before pulling him up and starting toward the backdoor from which they came from. They all left silently. His father even turned off the lights. You sat there and watched them head out the door, Leo being the last. "Why are they making it more painful then it should be..." You whispered to yourself as you bite your bottom lip. "Stop the tears. Stop the tears. Wait til they leave." You repeated over and over in your head. Right before Leo shut the door, he glanced back at you with pitiful eyes. Slowly, he mouthed the words, "I'll come back."
