They locked gazes and for several minutes neither of them spoke. The atmosphere was thick with unspoken words, but nothing needed to be said between them. Their eyes did the speaking, conveying the simple truth of the matter and the endless possibilities that lied ahead of them. Facades were thrown away, it was time to play.
“So,” Heechul broke the silence, sauntering into the minuscule room as if he owned the place. “Enough with the dramatics, let’s put the cards down straight. Shall I begin?”
Sungmin nodded his head and waved his hand politely. “Please, do.”
Sending him a pleased smile, Heechul clasped his hands behind his back and began to walk around the edge of the room, thinking to himself for just a moment before the game began. “My name is Kim Heechul, serial . This is my floor, my dear, I own it.”
“A pleasure, I say. Lee Sungmin, serial killer. I do hope you’ll share; I quite look forward to living with you. Apologies, in due respect, for strangling you. Sometimes I can’t quite control myself,” Sungmin said in return, tilting his head to the side ever so slightly and smiling pleasantly. “But don’t worry, I won’t try it again.”
Heechul chuckled and shook his head, coming to a stop in the middle of the floor.
“No need for that, Sungmin. You will try again and so will I, let’s not string together silly little lies. And as far as lies go, I quite enjoyed your little act. Defenseless and innocent, you play that face of yours beautifully. No doubt that we’ll get along wonderfully. I do have two conditions, though, if you don’t mind. More of a warning, if you will.”
“And those would be?” Sungmin asked curiously, leaning against the wall.
“One: don’t cross me, you won’t win. As I said, this is my floor. I have every person, including the guards, wrapped around my little finger. You piss me off and you’ll be dead by my word.”
“I’ll keep that in mind, thanks.”
“Two, while your baby persona was adorable, I’ve grown tired of it. No masks around me, Sungmin,” Heechul told him, his voice subtly stern. It was quite enjoyable to fantasize about corrupting such innocence, but he knew better now. Lee Sungmin was far from innocent, and Heechul had fallen straight into his game. While the rest of the world continued to be blinded by ignorance, Heechul had solved the puzzle the minute he’d left Zhou Mi’s office.
Sungmin frowned and leaned forward, humming to himself at this dilemma.
