Sungmin couldn’t explain why he felt the need to defy orders; it had just been that way for as long as he could remember. When told to do one thing, he would merely turn around and to another. Same for when he was told not to do something, he would do it anyways. He didn’t know why he always did this, but perhaps it was just for the joy of irritating everybody, or maybe it was because he liked the attention it got him.
My poor mother, I think I drove her to her wits end, Sungmin thought pitifully from where he was sitting behind a large trash can in the kitchen. It was smelly and cramped, not to mention rather cold since he was near the freezer; but it was a good little hiding space and no one had seen him for the past hour. With his knees brought to his chest, Sungmin picked at a stray string on his pants as he thought about why he was even hiding in the first place.
The beautiful figure named Heechul, with the intense eyes that could stare deep within one’s soul and instantly see all their deep and darkest secrets. Sungmin laughed at that thought; he didn’t have a soul, just a black hole full of evilness. At least, that’s what his lawyer had told him, and neither the judge nor jury had disagreed with it. He didn’t blame them for thinking such thoughts about him, not after all that he’d done to scar society.
“Alright men, good work! Go on and head out for some free time before supper starts. I’ll finish up the last of the preparations,” A loud voice rang through the kitchen. Several pairs of feet shuffled through the kitchen, and Sungmin quickly retracted and curled into a ball to stay hidden until everyone passed and the vast room went silent. But just as he felt safe to move into a more comfortable position, he was discovered.
“ – yeah, I’ll be there in a minute, Teukie. Just let me toss these cans – “
He was buff, he was tough, and he had tattoos all over his arms. Sungmin peered up at the man with weird designs shaved into his hair, bringing a finger to his lip to tell him to keep quiet. He couldn’t possibly explain what he was doing hiding behind the smelly garbage, and he hoped that this guy would just walk away as if he hadn’t seen anything. Unfortunately, that wasn’t going to happen, and the guy pushed the can away to get a full view of the crouched guy on the floor.
“Kid, what are you doing? Get off the floor, its filthy.”
“My floors are not filthy! I make sure this entire kitchen is spick and span after every round so – oh, what do we have here?”
Sungmin nervously stared up as another man came into view, this one a skinny guy with blonde hair and dimples that he recognized as the head cook of this place; one of the guards had pointed him out earlier when he was assigned kitchen chores. He was supposed to have gone and introduced himself to him – Leeteuk was it? – but it was too nerve-wracking so he hid instead.
