“I need you to tell me everything you know about Lee Sungmin.”
Two days had passed before Heechul was finally released from the infirmary. The bruises on his face had faded to yellow and green, and the finger marks on his neck were hardly visible. After checking his appearance in one of the mirrors, Heechul had decided that his face was acceptable to present to the public, and so the first thing he did after leaving was head straight to the one person he knew could give him the answers he was searching for.
Dr. Zhou Mi was the attending psychologist of the facility, the person who helped the sane inmates come to terms with their crimes so they could move on with their lives. He knew every person that passed through the front entrance and had read all the personal files. If anyone could tell Heechul about Sungmin, it would be Zhou Mi, and thus he barged unannounced into the office that morning with a determined look on his face.
“Excuse me?”
Zhou Mi looked up from where he sat behind a mahogany desk, reading through some new case files, staring at Heechul unsurely. Heechul was no stranger to him, but in fact a dear friend and one of his favorite inmates to mentor because he could hold an intelligent conversation.
“You heard me! Lee Sungmin, the guy who just came down from the fifth floor that tried choking me to death the other day. I want to know everything about him,” Heechul answered simply, taking a seat on one of the burgundy, cushioned chairs in front of the desk. He crossed his legs and folded his hands on his knees politely, sending Zhou Mi a sweet smile.
The latter studied him for a moment, raising an eyebrow curiously, before leaning back in his seat and crossing his arms over his chest. “How would it benefit you, Heechul, if I told you about Sungmin? Are you planning on plotting revenge against him? I assure you that it won’t be worth your time.”
Heechul sighed and brushed the long, black hair out of his face.
“No, Zhou Mi. It’s not about revenge, I just want to get to know him,” He answered thinly.
“If you didn’t already know, Heechul, most people make friends by talking to other people; not sneaking around behind their backs,” Zhou Mi answered, half amused by this situation. It wasn’t every day that Heechul asked for normal favors, but this didn’t quite count as normal. Heechul just didn’t get to know people, not unless it was getting to know their bodies.
Heechul averted his eyes, a slightly annoyed look clouding them.
“Because…” He began hesitantly. “He choked me, Zhou Mi. I don’t like when people hurt me, you know that. But you also told me that when people hurt others they have a reason behind it. You taught me that I hurt people because of my past with my father. I want to know what Sungmin’s reason is.”
