Ground Rules...

Mr. Bratty Ghost

a/n: and look who's back after being MIA for the past coule of weeks...

in my defense, i blame it on the finals and crazy demanding professors...

but!!!!! since it's our EXO BUN, XIUMIN's, birthday in a few hours...

i've got a small surprise on this chapter...

Sehun frowned as he watch the sleeping girl. It’s a few minutes before ten in the morning but the girl is still buried under her sheets. It’s not surprising though. She had been awake for most of the night.

For the past 3 days since Sehun had made the deal with Anya, the girl would be awake until the wee hours of the morning, or until she’s too tired from crying her eyes out.

Sehun couldn’t even start to understand why the girl is acting as if the world had ended just because her boyfriend had dumped her. There are far too many guys out there. How can someone act as if there’s nobody else in the world other than a single person? And besides, if someone says they don’t want you anymore, then shouldn’t you just accept it and move on? Why would you insist yourself to someone who doesn’t appreciate you? It’s their loss, not yours.

“Yah, ghost girl. Get up.” Sehun called.

He was ignored of course.

“Yah!!!” Sehun yelled. “Aren’t you getting up? I’m done waiting for you to start helping me, ghost girl! Stop mopping around!”

Anya stirred but didn’t give any sign that she’d be up anytime soon.

If Sehun only have a physical body, he would have already shoved Anya out of her covers and shake the daylights out of her. He could, but it could be the last thing he’d ever do before he’d be dead for sure.

So he settled for pulling his hair and groaning in frustration. He wanted to kick something. Or someone.

“Honestly, woman! Why in the world would you be lamenting on a boyfriend who clearly doesn’t give a damn about you? Do you think crying over him would do you any good? You’re only making yourself look pathetic! Stop being an idiot and move on!” he bellowed loudly.

Anya’s covers came off and the girl glared, pointing towards her bedroom door. Her eyes were puffy and red, the dark circles under were heavy and prominent.

“Get out of my room, you stupid ghost!” she yelled, venom seeping from her eyes. “I don’t want to see you ever again! Get out!”

Sehun could clearly see the hurt in her eyes. “Well good! At least she‘s still have that feisty spirit within her.” he thought. Luhan’s sympathizing with her heartache is only making her feel worse and more down. Sehun got some other plans of making her pull herself together.

“Do you think sending me away would keep you from acting like a dumb fool waiting on someone who’s clearly not coming back? Wake up, ghost girl. He dumped you. So just it up and get a move on. You’ll be doing yourself a big favor.” Sehun stated coldly and matter-of-factly.

Tears started streaming down Anya’s face as she cried silently. The room is silent except for Anya’s occasional sobbing and sniffing. She raised her knees and folded her hands over them, burying her face as she tried to stifle her cries.

“I don’t mean to sound cold and heartless, ghost girl. But the boy clearly doesn’t want you and if you ask me, there are far too many fishes in the sea. Your world can’t stop just because one single person left you.” Sehun stated, his voice not as cold as earlier. Though he still can’t empathize with how Anya feels. “Stop this stupidity.”

Anya just cried silently. “But I still love him. Even if he hurt me… I still love him.”
Sehun rolled his eyes and floated towards Anya until he was an arm’s length in front of her. He took a deep breath and concentrated. He flicked Anya’s forehead.

Anya looked up, surprised at the sudden contact. And then she frowned and rubbed her forehead. “Yah, brat! What the heck was that for!?”

Sehun smirked. “You’re a clairvoyant who must have helped a lot of ghosts cross over. You shouldn’t be crying over some stupid boy. You should think better of yourself.”

“But-”

“Yah! Don’t even start with stupid retaliations!” Sehun cut in with stern look. “Don’t you think about how people surrounding you would feel if you keep on hanging off your ex-boyfriend? Have you even seen how Deer Eyes had been worrying? If you don’t want to do yourself a favor, then do it at least for those who cares about you! All your mopping is being a nuisance to me and a burden to Deer Eyes! So you better get your act together, hear me?!”

Anya kept on looking at Sehun, eyes moist and teary. Slowly, he saw something shift within those orbs and he couldn’t help but to be proud of this girl. And of course, himself. Who knew he’s awesome with these kind of things. He could make a living out of it.

She dried her eyes and sniffed one last time.

“Fine. It might take time… maybe forever. But I will get over him.” Anya said determinedly.

Sehun nodded his head in approval, mentally patting his back. Wah, when he gets to have his life back, he should shift to a psychology course instead of his current college course. He’s good at this advising thing.

“But first thing first…” Anya trailed.

Sehun looked at the girl expectantly.

“GET OUT OF MY ROOM, BRAT!” Anya started throwing things at Sehun.

Sehun couldn’t help but chuckle as he descended to the living room through Anya’s bedroom floor.

Yep, he definitely got a future with helping people think clearly.

Luhan suddenly walked through him, said boy stopping instantly and rubbed his arms as he shivered. Sehun smirked. If something’s good out of his current situation, it’s making fun of those who can’t see him.

He floated through Luhan repeatedly, enjoying the fact that the boy’s eyes get larger every time he does. Sehun could see the goose bumps rise on Luhan’s skin.

“Please, stop.” Luhan sighed, shivering once again as Sehun kept on running his hand on Luhan’s torso.

Sehun didn’t relent, following Luhan as the boy made some food in the kitchen.

A few minutes later, Anya came to help. She was wearing her eyeglasses to try and hide the eye bags and her puffy red eyes.

“Yah, brat. Stop bothering Luhan before he locked you out of the house.” Anya yawned.

“Actually, I researched some spells from the old books. I think something might work.” Luhan said as he placed a fruit bowl on the table.

“No way! I am not going to leave! How can I be sure that you won’t be slacking off on your part of the deal if I’m locked out? Or if you get back to mopping again without me around? So you can’t put stupid wards to keep me out! Understand?!” Sehun glared.

Anya clucked her tongue. “Fine! You’re such a demanding ghost!”

“Well, for someone who nearly killed this demanding ghost, you’re whining too much!” Sehun retorted.

Anya glared.

Sehun just raised a smug brow.

“Alright.” Anya gave Sehun a serious look. “If you want to stay in the house, we should set down rules. I can’t always wake up with you hovering over my bed, surprising the early living daylights out of me.”

“Wow! That’s one y ghost.” Luhan muttered.

“Shut up, Deer Eyes! I’m not a !” Sehun kicked Luhan, his action making the other boy shiver.

“Ugh! Why does he keep on doing whatever it is that makes my skin crawl?!” Luhan whined.

“You deserve it, Deer Eyes! First you tried to kill me, then you threatened to lock me out, and then you call me a !” Sehun repeatedly kicked Luhan.

If Sehun had a physical body, Luhan would be covered in bruises.

“Stop it.” Anya growled, “Or I’ll lock you out myself, brat.”

Sehun huffed but stopped anyways.

“As I’ve said, we need to establish some rules. First: you can’t go into my room. I’m still a girl, thank you very much. I need privacy.” she glared at Sehun.

“Fine. But if you try to hide from me using that rule, I will break into your room.” Sehun amended. Wait… how exactly is he going to do that when he can’t even touch a thing? Unless he risk being dead for sure.

“Second: you can’t keep on bothering Luhan.”

“Thank you!” Luhan beamed at Anya.

“Why not? It’s fun!”

“You’re so rude, you know that?” Anya hissed. “Luhan actually has the means to help you get back to your body. I can only see you but he’s the one who can help you out. So you better stop bothering him.”

Sehun clucked his tongue but nodded in agreement. “What else?”

“You need to stop putting your nose where it is not needed, i.e. my life. I know we had a deal of some sort, but to be honest, I didn’t agree with it because I want your charity or something on moving on from my relationship. I appreciate your concern though.”

“Who said I was concerned? I just hate annoying whiny girls.” Sehun cut in, crossing his hands over his chest.

“Shut up, I’m not finished yet.” Anya glared. “As I was saying, I am helping you out because I am bound to. I took an oath that I will do everything in my capacity to help lost souls and you’re technically one lost soul. And even though I want to send you to hell for being a pain the arse, I can’t do that since you’re technically still alive.”

“Whatever.” Sehun rolled his eyes.

“Next: you can’t fool around inside the house. As I have observed, you can actually move things or do body contact if you want to. So I’m warning you: you can’t fool around my house. Understand? And fifth-”

“Want to write it down? You awfully have so many rules!” Sehun cocked his head cheekily.

Anya gave him a death glare. “It’s the last one. You can’t-”

“Mama! We’re home!!!” two chirpy voices rang through the house.

Sehun gave Anya a bewildered look before feeling something, or someone, pass through him. Mama??

“Mama!” a boy with slightly curly hair and wide bright eyes hugged Anya. “I miss you.”

“Hey, Yeol. I missed you too. Where’s Baek? And Tao” Anya gushed, practically suffocating the boy with a hug.

“Park Chanyeol, come back here and put away your own luggage, you lazy !” a shrill voice echoed from the living room. Another boy came into the kitchen, this one shorter than the first boy. His brown hair is partially covering his eyes and he flicked away his bangs before continuing to glare at the other boy who was hugging Anya.

“Later, Baek. I wanted to greet Mama first.” the curly-haired boy pouted.

“Hey, you just came back and you’re already fighting?” Anya reprimanded lightly.

The boy with brown hair huffed a little before shoving the taller boy away and hugged Anya. “Hi, Mama.”

“Aw… I missed you both so much. How was your time with the uncles? I’m surprised they didn’t call me for an emergency. Have you really been that good?”

“Well, Chanyeol did manage to destroy half of the origami animals we made on the second day at Uncle Taemin‘s.” the brown-haired boy stated.

“Yah! You were the one who told me to fill that boat with all the animals like in Noah’s Ark!” Chanyeol retorted.

“I didn’t tell you to put the boat in the water, Einstein! You were supposed to leave it on the stand where Uncle Key left it.”

Chanyeol was about to retort but started laughing when Luhan sneak up on him and tickled his sides.

“Hey! You forgot I was here!” Luhan accused as he hugged the boy.

“I didn’t!” Chanyeol protested over his laughs.

“You have the attention span of a goldfish so you don’t notice things!” Baekhyun rolled his eyes.

“I do not!” Chanyeol squeaked as he pleaded for Luhan to stop.

Luhan eventually stopped tormenting the boy and gave him and Baekhyun a proper hug, “Where’s Tao?”

“He was right behind me when I came in.” Baekhyun said as he looked back at the hallway towards the living room.

Sehun followed the boy’s gaze, still a little bit shocked at the scene being played in front of him. He can‘t quite grasp the fact that Anya is a mom. Well, he could ask questions later.

Standing on the hallway is another kid, this one with a mop of unruly jet black hair, big eyes and even bigger eye bags. Sehun wonders if the kid just woke up or badly in need of at least a day’s worth of sleep. Or maybe both. He’s clutching the straps of his knapsack tightly.

And he’s looking directly at Sehun.

“Hey, Tao-tao! What are you doing there? Aren’t you going to greet Mama and uncle Luhan?” Anya called out with a smile.

The kid shook his head fervently, eyes still trained on Sehun. “Mama, why is that ahjussi colored?” he asked, voice almost a whisper.

Sehun looked back at Anya and they were both silent for a few seconds.

“Y-you can thee me?” Sehun cleared his throat. Stuttering is so uncool! And crap it, why does he have to have his lisp even if he’s a ghost?

“Why won’t he see you?” Baekhyun asked rather haughtily.

Sehun turned to the other kid who was standing near Anya. “You too?”

“But Mama, why is he colored? Aren’t they supposed to be black and white and grey?” Chanyeol tugged at the hem of Anya’s shirt, eyes shining with curiosity.

Anya shook her head a little. “Well… we will talk about this later. Kids, go wash up and change clothes. I need to talk to the colored ahjusshi and uncle Luhan.” she ushered the three boys up the stairs.

When she came back, Sehun and Luhan were both giving her questioning looks.

“I know what you want to ask, but I don’t have a clue either how they can see you.” Anya sighed.

“I don’t know how to feel. I’m the only one in this house who can’t see this ghost.” Luhan pouted.

“It wouldn’t be fun if you do.” Sehun smirked and run his hand through Luhan a couple of times, making the other boy shiver. “Yep, I’m good with this arrangement.”

Anya sighed as Luhan sulked, going back to his cooking.

“Anyways, since there are certain things that needed to be considered, I changed the last rule. It should have been the rule that you can’t go running around town and haunting people and scare the holy Krisus out of them, but now that my kids can see you, I changed it.”

Sehun rolled his eyes, not taking the rules to heart. He’s more adamant to know how the kids can see him.
“Last rule of the house: act accordingly in front of my kids. They are easily influenced and I don’t want them taking after a brat like you.”

Anya stepped down a foot sternly. “Understand?”

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.” Sehun scoffed before floating somewhere else.

This house is just getting more fun by the day.
