She smiled too...
Don't Forget MeHe is looking at him – at his calm and kind face. He has been here quite long and he has never seen any mark of anger in these features. Never. Older man moves but he doesn’t wake up. He just hugs the boy a bit tightly, pressing him to his chest. Ryeowook shivers. He doesn’t like these touches. He’s scared. Although he didn’t mind it at night. No. At night he gripped Yesung himself, afraid of the darkness. He still doesn’t understand how some ordinary dream could cause something like this. But now, there is no darkness and no dream. There is nothing scary but this touch. But when he looks at this sleeping face... He doesn’t want to move and wake him up.
In the end... It is not so unpleasant. His embrace is warm and he feels...safe in some way. And the longer he lies like this, the more the fear is slowly leaving him alone with older man.
Yesung’s eyelids shivers and he slowly open his eyes. Ryeowook freezes, trying to avoid man’s chocolate eyes. It’s just a moment before Yesung realizes why the boy lies in his bed and even in his embrace.
“Good morning,” he whispers with a soft and sleepy voice, smiling. Boy’s eyes carefully find his face again and his lips curve in a light smile.
“Good morning,” he answers quietly.
“Is it better now?” Yesung asks and Wookie blinks in surprise. After that he realizes what Yesung is talking about and he nods.
“Yes, it is. Thank you,” he whispers almost inaudibly.
“There’s nothing to be thankful for,” Yesung smiles and raises his hand, Wookie’s cheek. He can feel the boy is shivering. He is still scared. Yesung plays with his hair before he pulls away, returning his hand to Wookie’s hips. When he notices sudden fear in his eyes, he immediately reveals him.
“I’m sorry,” he says apologetically, sitting up. He stretches as a cat, turning to Wookie. He just smiles. “And what about breakfast? I can make pancakes or-...” He looks at his alarm clock. It’s a half past eleven. “Or when can eat just cereals and I will make pancakes for lunch,” he laughs.
Ryeowook can’t say a word, that man astonishes him more and more. His smile which doesn’t leave his lips. His soft eyes which are looking at him with such tenderness. He remembers his mum. She had the same smile and in her eyes there was the same tenderness. Tears find their way to his eyes. Why did he remember right now when he can’t see her anymore? Wouldn’t it be better, if he didn’t remember at all?
“Ryeowookie, what happened? Are you still scared?” Yesung asks sadly when he notices boy’s tears. But Ryeowook just shakes his head, wiping tears with his sleeve.
“I’m not scared,” he assures older man.
“So why are you crying?” Yesung asks, his wet cheek.
“She... She smiled like you,” he sobs.
Yesung doesn’t have to ask who. It is clear he is talking about his mother. He doesn’t know what to say. He can do just only thing – he grabs Wookie’s hand, pulling the boy into his arms. Again. It seems Wookie is in his embrace more and more. But he doesn’t mind. He likes those moments when he can hug that tiny body, his hair, breathing his scent.
“She smiled too. Always...” Wookie sobs. Yesung presses him a bit tightly, kissing his hair. He should say something. But he has no idea. Should he say it will be okay? It won’t. He knows it. They told him that sentence too. They told it will be okay. But four years passed and he still feels the same pain. Not so big but it is still here. And loneliness too... No, he doesn’t feel lonely anymore. Not now when Wookie is here.
“My mum was always smiling too,” he whispers quietly. That memory hurts him. Ryeowook stops to sob, raising his face to Yesung.
“She smiled?”
Yesung just smiles sadly, wiping other Wookie’s tears.
“My mum is dead too,” he explains. Ryeowook’s eyes widen, suddenly he can’t move.
“She died four years ago with my father...and my little brother. The day when it happened, it was storm.” He doesn’t remember what happened. But he remembers exactly that feeling when they told him his family is dead. It lasted a lot of days before he finally admitted they are gone. They are really gone.
“I missed them. I missed them so much.” He doesn’t know why he is saying it. Maybe he wants to assure Wookie he’s not alone. He wants to tell him he knows how he feels. He wants to show him they are the same.
Ryeowook quietly looks to Yesung’s eyes which are full of sudden pain. He doesn’t like it. He wants to see the tenderness again, not the pain. He bites his lips, swallowing hardly. This is his fault. If he hadn’t cried, Yesung wouldn’t have remembered...
Yesung notices the shadow in boy’s eyes, frowning. Maybe it was not such a good idea to tell him things like these. He should have been quiet. But he can’t change it now.
“That’s enough. We won’t ruin our day with sad memories, will we?”
Yesung smiles widely. He ruffles Wookie’s hair, standing up. At the moment something on the floor catches his attention. He bends down, picking up the teddy bear which probably fell down during the night.
“Here. You have to guard him,” he smiles, pushing the bear into Wookie’s arms.
“Now, go to dress up and I will prepare the breakfast,” he says, heading to the doors.
“Is everything okay?” he asks when Wookie doesn’t move.
Wookie just shakes his head. After all, the room won’t bite him. That yesterday’s fear was caused by the dream, not the room. He pulls the handle, opening the door. Slowly, as he would be waiting for some monster to attack him at the moment he steps inside. But nothing happens, the room is quiet, empty and... And it’s not scary at all. He smiles, chasing all grim thoughts and stepping into his room. Yesung was right. They won’t ruin their day.
