Intercom: NOW BOARDING FOR THE DEPARTURE TO SEOUL KOREA!!

You turn to your family to say your last goodbyes (but not forever)

“Bye mama I love you so much I miss you already” your vision starts to blur from the tears you were trying so hard to fight back.

“You need to call, write, email me everyday so I know how you are and what your doing!!!” she bursts into tears

*I look at my dad and in his eyes I can see that he is just as sad as my mom but he has always encouraged me to do what I think is best and experience new things unlike my mom who still likes to keep me close I'm her baby*

“Mama I dont know how I’ll be able to call everyday because long distance calls are so expensive but I will most definitely email and try to write as much as I can I love you” 

You give your mom a tight hug she almost not letting go. Then you turn to your Dad to do the same

“I love you Daddy take care of mom and dont eat to much junk food k”

“Hey I love my burgers!!....Bye sweetie we will miss you a lot have fun and be safe”

“Call us the minute you land and get settled too, do you have everything you ne....” her tears start to flow even more making you do the same but stopped the waterfalls before it progressed

You up your tears and remind her that you’ll be okay, you weren’t living alone *THANK GOD!! i have no sense of direction especially when it come to new places”

You had weekly group meetings with other selected students who were also chosen to be in the aboard program and thats where you met Kieu (pronounced like “Q”). She was a cutest Asian girl you’ve ever seen at your school. She had long black hair, petite but just as tall as you, really outgoing and the sweetest person you have ever met you clicked right away and were fortunate enough to become roommates for the year.

“Layla I’m so happy we got so close I’m going to introduce you to some many new things, clothes, art, food, and not to mention the music and the IN hotties who sing it eeeek!! have you ever listened to kpop before?”

She pulls out her long slick flip phone she said was called a lollipop phone sold in Korea. Her family moved to California from Korea in hopes to begin a new life for their family as well as start a business in selling desserts, they got really successful and made serious money enough to spoil their kids rotten, even buying them cell phones imported from Korea

“No what’s kpop?” you ask curiously.

She just stares at you shocked as if you have been living under a rock your whole life because you had no idea what kpop was. She quickly strums the keys on her phone searching through for songs and begins to play a few when one song in particular caught your interest.

“haha you have know idea!!” she says with a reassuring expression on her face you knew then you were in for a ride to a whole new world.

I waved goodbye to my parents and headed towards the gate when I saw Kieu rushing towards me with her cute carry on bag which most likely matched all her luggage she was “organized” that way.

*Akkk* she jumped me

“Ohhh I’m so excited I mean I go with my family on holidays to Korea but never during school or with a best friend! Im so excited aren’t you?”

“You have know idea I'm just a little tried thats all”

“Yah you look like it and your eyes are all puffy”  *thats cuz my mom mad me cry so much* *sigh*

“Lets get going Layla you can sleep on the way there its a 12hr flight hope you brought comfy clothes”

“Oh believe me thats one thing I did not forget considering the flight!!” 

She laughs at your slow and heavy movements making it down the hallway into the plane.

“HAHA let’s go let’s go!!” she scurries down to the enterance of the plane leaving you to trail along at your pace.

*How is it that she has so much energy*

12 HOURS LATER:

After going through the long process at the airport we finally reached our dorm building a block away from the university. Our room was on the top floor and right next to the stair case perfect for when I’m late for class. We opened the door to a small dorm with 2 rooms equiped with a bed, stove, etc. a perfect fit for two girls.

“Ugh I wanna sleep but I have a meeting for my internship”

“Now!! don't they know your on a different time clock?” Kieu parks her luggage outside her door and heads straight for the bed.

“Yah its my fault my scheduled it the day I got in, I didn't think I would be so tired since I would sleep on the plane!”

“Yah thats was dumb!!” Kieu laughs and sticks her tongue out at you

You grabbed a nearby pillow and threw it at her head “Your a jerk!” :P

“Haha 'I Know' and thank you for the pillow ima sleep now wake me up when you get back and we’ll grab something to eat KK”

“yah go to sleep I can see circles forming under your eyes”

*GASP* “What a !” you guys burst out laughing and give each other a hug.

“You know I love you”

“Yah I love you too Kieuy”

As soon as you finished unpacking you got ready for the meeting with your new supervisor at the adoption agency. You needed to get an overview of what your expected of while working there. You ask around for the supervisor and they point to a woman.

“ Ahnnyounghasaeyo Layla-imnida, I am the international student who has had the opportunity to work in the program its very nice to meet you please take care of me” you bow to her because you knew it was a custom.

“Hello Layla, my name is Min I will be your boss, supervisor, and mentor for the time you are here with us in the internship program, Its good to hear you can speak Korean adequately you don’t know many students I have had who were still learning the language while working here”

“Thank you very much! It wasn’t easy learning as fast as I did in my first two years but I still have a little trouble”

“There is no need to rush I’m sure whatever your struggling with I trust you’ll do well" you smile and thank her for the complement.

After giving you the rundown she sent you home to recooperate from the flight. You were scheduled to work the first Monday of next week enough days for you to get used to the new time schedule your body does not want to understand. When you got home you saw that Kieu was in a deep sleep (like snoring big time!) which oddly sounded like music to your ears because as soon as you laid in bed you were knocked out.
