HAPPY NEW YEAR! :D

Anyway, here’s the update.

Despite being assigned to a huge project for the company, Jessica still told her father that she would take a day off, having a three-day weekend since it was Tiffany’s birthday tomorrow. He didn’t protest for as long as she finished by the due date. She knew that much that was why she was cramming even though they would have her friends in the flat in less than half an hour, but she was still in her office, trying to review the possible numbers they could sell the properties for and the great deals buyers could buy the property on a pre-selling price. That was also the reason she had some of the employees pull an overtime to rush it before she left.

“Jessica, you’re not coming in tomorrow, right?” Jooyeon asked as she stood by the door, she then stepped in the room with a packaged in her hand, which she handed to her boss.

Since she had been too busy to go out and buy Tiffany a present, she had a jeweler come in to her office this morning to show her an exclusive collection. Honestly, she didn’t know if Tiffany would like to receive something expensive, but the blonde wanted to pamper the girl so she picked a pear-shaped diamond pendant with a platinum metal chain instead of something cheaper. However, it wasn’t over the top at all; in fact, she could use it every day if she wanted to, and Jessica honestly would love that. Not minding the price, she simply had it ordered this morning with Tiffany’s engraved initials on the back all to be done today. Surely, despite the lack of time, Jessica was able to pull through with the use of money. As she opened the black leather container, revealing the simple, yet elegant present she prepared for her girlfriend, she couldn't help but feel glad. The smile on her face told the content she felt with this one, she was positive that Tiffany would love it if she didn’t tell her the price. Sure, it had only been less than two months since they started going out, but this was how she was - always trying to gift the best to those she loved.

Nodding in reply, she then said, “Yes. I’ll be back on Monday, but I’m still reachable via email,” as she placed the present in her briefcase. “Also, you can call me if something needs my attention ASAP.” What kind of vacation was this anyway? She would still have to work regardless, but she figured she could do that whenever Tiffany was asleep or something. But she really wanted to at least have a very relaxing weekend with her girlfriend, but it seemed like being in charged right now did so little in her favor.

“Jessica,” it was now Kahi, who called as she stood beside Jooyeon. “Tiffany’s on the line, asking if you’re leaving soon. What should I tell her?”  Looking at the stacks of paperwork still on her desk, she then sighed. There was no way she would make it there in time. Before she could answer, Kahi then continued, “She said your friends are mostly there.”

“Tell her I’m leaving soon. And can you give my driver a ring? I’ll be at the entrance in ten minutes,” she said as she painfully looked at the amount of work she needed to finish. She knew there was no way she would be able to squeeze her workload for todays in just one. Well, that meant she would have to stay up all night to work. Just for a little bit, she continued on her work and then gathered her things, preparing to head home. “Jooyeon,” she said loud enough for the girl to hear her from her cubicle. “I need JiYoung to finish with his reports so when he gets back from the field, send it to my email tomorrow.”

“Sure thing,” Jooyeon said when she was by the door. “You should go, Jessica. It’s almost seven o’clock.’

“Yeah,” she said as she started to carry her briefcase full of paperwork and her laptop case. “Have a great weekend, everyone. Sorry for keeping you until late and thank you for staying. Have a great weekend,” she said with a smile on her face as each one of her employees bid her farewell.

On her way home, she had to stop by the flower shop she frequent since she had a bouquet arranged for her girlfriend. She knew she liked pink or red flowers, but Jessica wasn’t about to copy whatever Tiffany’s former boyfriends gave her. This flower arrangement was special since they were David Austin Roses flown in from a foreign country; this was how much she thought about the presents she gave Tiffany. Sure, the necklace was very last minute, but she knew Tiffany loved flowers so she had that ordered last week.

After picking the flowers up, she rushed back to the car, and they headed home. Looking at her watch now, she noticed that she was already more than thirty minutes late. What kind of a girlfriend was she? But in her defense, this celebration she put together was very last minute since it was supposed to be on Monday after their trip; however, she couldn’t make it then since she had a very important cocktail meeting with different companies. With the help of Kahi, despite this not being an official business, she was able to go to the place Tiffany used to work for before, her former roommate, and then some friends she met at school. Thankfully, every time Tiffany would check-in at a location on her social media, she would always be with the same people so Kahi had an easy time informing her friends that there would be a party today. Weird, it was supposed to be a surprise party; however, Jessica couldn’t set things up for Tiffany so she had to tell her last night that there would be a catering group that would be there around five in the afternoon to set up for the night. How would she be able to hide this when she wouldn’t even be there, whilst Tiffany would? But it worked out since, according to Kahi, every guest on the list verified their attendance.

“We’re here, Miss Jung,” her driver said as he got off the car, running to Jessica’s side and then opening the door.

“May you just carry my things, please? Just set it in my office.” She said as she grabbed the bouquet of flowers and the necklace she got, putting it in her handbag. She then hurried to the elevator. Since she was late she actually had to jog, which she rarely did in her life; however, this was Tiffany’s birthday so she shouldn’t be more tardy than she already was. As she turned the knob, she peeped in, trying to locate her girlfriend. The light was dim and there were disco lights and strobe lights that were installed. It was a good thing she hired an organizer to set up this sound system and the lights since she wouldn’t have a clue on how to do that. She noticed that they all crowded in the living room, where the karaoke was set up.

Tiffany sat in between her former roommate and Sunny, so upon seeing her, she walked towards her girlfriend and stood behind her. Most of the people caught a glimpse of her, but she placed a finger on her lips, asking for them to be in cahoots with her. Their eyes then were glued back to the big TV, singing along as Taeyang held the microphone as he danced around in high spirits. Tiffany was laughing as she sang along whilst clapping her hand as she swayed. Jessica  then covered both of Tiffany’s eyes with one hand as she placed her the bouquet of flowers on her lap; she placed her chin on the girl’s shoulder and then said, “I’m sorry I’m late, but I can see you’re having a great time.”

“Jessi!” Tiffany exclaimed enthusiastically as she turned her head to face Jessica, pulling the blonde’s hand  so she could see her and give her a kiss, placing her lips on Jessica’s as she wrapped her arms around her neck.

“Hey! Break it up!” Hyomin yelled from the other side of the unit.

Not caring, Jessica deepened their kiss, but was soon pushed by Tiffany. So she placed her forehead on her girlfriend’s. “I’m really sorry. Just too much to do at work,” she said in a low tone. Tiffany just gave her a smile and a quick peck on the lips. She missed this since they were always just having breakfast and late dinner most of the time now, but of course she still made time for Tiffany regardless on how busy she got.

“Now everyone’s here, let’s start the party!” Taeyang was excited as he raised one arm up and started dancing with TOP. “Let’s blow the cake and then start dinner!”

“Hey, it’s not your call,” Yuri lectured as she pointed at the guy with a bottle in hand.  Looking at her direction, Jessica caught Taeyeon’s gaze so she smiled softly at the girl, greeting her, which her best friend did the same thing.

“Are you hungry now?” I asked Tiffany.

Nodding in reply, she then said, “Yeah. We were just waiting for you.” She then stood up, walking around the couch, but was still holding onto Jessica’s hand. “Let’s go guys! Time to eat.” She dragged Jessica to where the caterer set up the dishes, smorgasbord style.

Not being familiar with Tiffany’s set of friends, she simply told the caterer to mix it up and so they settled with smorgasbord. With the amount that she spent on this, she expected a lecture from her girlfriend, but she prepared an excuse, telling Tiffany that this was a party that only happened once a year so she shouldn’t be stingy and this was also for her benefit anyway; she was thankful Tiffany was born. Surely, her girlfriend would just cringe at that and would let everything slide, the thought made her smile.

Everybody gathered around the dining table, singing Happy Birthday to Tiffany and Jessica stood beside her; their hands were still intertwined. Before blowing the candle, she looked at Jessica and smiled, mouthing a quick ‘thank you’ and then she went on with her wish. To be honest, the blonde wanted to know what Tiffany wanted since she would want to make it happen, but she knew better; things didn’t work out like that so she stood there as she watched her girlfriend make an untold wish.

****

Just after everybody ate, everybody, with alcohol of choice in hand, was socializing, singing, or drinking. Tiffany introduced her to everybody, but she was never good with names especially if they weren’t business related. But she remembered some of the faces:  the roommate, some workers from the hotel, and the couples that played pool with Heechul and Tiffany weeks ago. Since Tiffany was busy entertaining her guests, Jessica was doing the same, too, as she circled around her home, talking to her friends. Right now, she was with Sunny, Taeyang, and Taeyeon, talking about how busy it would be for them in a couple of weeks since classes would resume.

“Jessica, I’ll sing you a song, but you have to help me with school, okay?” Taeyang said as he skipped his way to the microphone.

“You know you’ll have to help him anyway,” Taeyeon said, laughing.

That was true since she always ended up doing things for Taeyang. She just didn’t want him to be left behind on school, so she made it to a point that he at least had decent grades - enough to make him graduate. “That’s the sad part,” she said as she sighed.

“Well, now, Tiffany can help him too since you’re both so smart.”

“Taeyeon’s smart, too!” Jessica said.

Taeyeon shook her head as she waved her hands in front of her. “Not scholarship-material kind of smart! I just do well in class, but not like Tiffany or Jessica material. My God. They’re both on another level.”

Sunny then lightly slapped Jessica’s shoulder. “I know right? This girl and Tiffany are just too perfect together, I can’t even begin to comprehend how much of a great match they are.” She then looked at Taeyeon. “Don’t you think so?”

Jessica knew Sunny wasn’t trying to start something and was genuinely inquiring of Taeyeon’s opinion; however, it didn’t change the fact that it made it more awkward for her to be around her best friend. But before she could say anything, Taeyeon answered, “I agree. Tiffany is just too amazing.” She then looked at Jessica with a smile on her face. “Don’t you ever let her go.”

With a proud smile on her face, Jessica then said, “I’m not that type of person. She’d probably throw me off the balcony and I’d still hold on.” She then laughed at the thought and the other two found it funny as well. As much as Jessica thought it would be awkward to be around Taeyeon, it actually wasn’t so bad afterall. At least, despite the tainted friendship, they were still trying their best to be normal, and so far, it was going great.

“Jessica’s the loyal type,” Sunny said. “She’s also whipped. I mean, look at this party.” She started to look around; content was evident in her face. “This is really something, especially she only had a couple of days to prepare.”

“My assistant actually helped.”

“Tiffany sure is lucky. I hope she knows that,” Taeyeon said as she smiled at Jessica, and then placing her hand on the latter’s shoulder; the blonde only smiled in response.

“Taeyeon,” Yuri called as she approached the group. “Sorry, Jessica, but we actually need to go now.”

“It’s really fine. To be honest, it’s pretty late and I’m really tired.”

Yuri then laughed as she hit her shoulder lightly. “I can’t believe you sound like an old woman now. It’s not even midnight yet.”

“Ten to twelve, Yul.”

“You should start loosing up or else Tiffany will leave you,” Yuri said.

The blonde didn’t know why, but that hit a chord in her. It seemed like there was something in Yuri’s words that she couldn’t depict, or maybe she was just overly sensitive whenever Yuri was involved, especially when it concerned her lovelife. “I’ll make sure she falls so deep, she wouldn’t want to leave me.”

Yuri shrugged as she wrapped her arms around Taeyeon’s shoulder. “I’m just looking out for you. Anyway, we’re really going.”

“Bye,” Sunny said as she hugged the couple.

“Take care. Bye,” she said, hugging Yuri and then Taeyeon. She then looked at her best friend. “It’s nice to talk to you again.” There was no malice or lies in her words. It was truly what she felt since it had been awhile since they talked in person.

“We need to see each other more. With Tiffany, of course,” Taeyeon said as she hugged back. “I’ll actually go and tell her we’re leaving.”

“Okay.” Jessica then skimmed the room quickly and saw her girlfriend dancing with Heechul as they sang together with some of her friends. “She’s right over there,” she pointed at Tiffany, who was laughing loudly. With this sight, she couldn’t help but really feel happy that she went through all this for her girlfriend to smile like that. Since she had been busy with all the work at the office, she figured she should do everything for Tiffany so she could see that smile.

“Let’s join them there,” Sunny said as she dragged Jessica to the living room.

*****

“Thank God they’re gone,” Jessica said as she watch Tiffany exit the bathroom after showering so the former patted the space on her bed next to her, inviting Tiffany in. She placed the paperwork she had in her hand on her nightstand and she then grabbed the present she got for Tiffany. “Come here,” she said once again.

Not following Jessica’s words, Tiffany sat on the side of the bed beside Jessica. She then grabbed the document on the nightstand. “More work?” she asked with a frown on her face.

“Come here,” Jessica didn’t want to discuss anything right now, especially not with a frown on her girlfriend’s face. “Let’s not worry about work.”

“Maybe we should cance--”

“Fany-ah,” Jessica called as she reached for the documents in Tiffany’s hand and she then placed it on the nightstand. “Happy birthday,” she greeted once again as she handed her girlfriend the present.

“Jessi,” Tiffany said as she saw the content of the jewelry box. “I… I can’t ac--”

Ignoring what Tiffany was about to say, Jessica removed  the necklace from the box, showing Tiffany her initials and her date of birth on the back. “No returns, you know?” She flashed a big smile on her face as she placed it back in the box.

Beaming a soft  smile on her face, Tiffany closed the box and then placed it on the nightstand. “I really love it, Jessi. But if you got me something really cheap, I would love it the same.”

“I know,” she answered. She understood where Tiffany was coming from, but at the same time, she also wanted to shower her girlfriend with the best things in life because she deserved it. “But I want to give it to you. Why else do you think I work hard for?”

“Don’t. I don’t want to be---”

“I work hard for us. For our future, you know? And that comes with pampering you.” She patted the space next to her, inviting Tiffany in. She even moved the comforter out of the way. Not having a choice, Tiffany gave in and was now in bed with Jessica. So the blonde then covered Tiffany with her blanket. “You’re sleeping here tonight, right?” She gently wrapped her arms around Tiffany as she leaned back to a more comfortable position; Tiffany used her arm as a pillow. “I know you hate it when I buy you expensive things, but, really though, you only celebrate your birthday once a year so I only get to give you four presents each year that you won’t yell at me for.”

“Four?” Tiffany looked up, meeting Jessica’s eyes.

“Birthday, Christmas, Anniversary, and Valentine’s day.” She counted with her fingers.

Tiffany sighed. “Well---”

“Well nothing. Pass the documents, please? I still need to---”

Tiffany got up from the bed and glared at her girlfriend. “Are you seriously going to work on my birthday?”

“You’re going to sleep so I fig---” She wasn’t able to finish her words as Tiffany silenced her with her lips.

After kissing her deeper, Tiffany then asked, “Let’s?”

“Now?”

“This will be the best present.” Tiffany answered with a smirk on her face.

Well, who was Jessica to hypocritically say no? She was also looking forward to sharing a night with Tiffany anyway. Without saying  a word, she kissed Tiffany again and slowly, articles of their clothing landed on the floor and called it a night.

******

“Jessi, wake up.” Tiffany was shaking her.

“One more hour,” Jessica murmured as she tried to swat her girlfriend’s hand away.

“No. We’re leaving in less than an hour so go get ready.” She shook her vehemently this time.

Slowly opening her eyes, Jessica decided to close it again. It seemed like five more minutes was well-deserved. “Fifteen minutes?”

“No! Wake up!”

“Ten?”

“No, Jessi. I already packed your things, but you still have to get ready.” Tiffany was trying to open Jessica’s eyes, but the latter was squeezing her eyes tight.

Jessica whined, making crying noises. “But I’m still tired.”

“I’m ti---”

“I mean, really, we stayed up til, like what, sunrise, Fany-ah. After you tire me, you won’t even let me rest?” Jessica pouted, hoping things would go her way just like planned.

Tiffany sighed and hit her bum. “Five minutes. That’s all you’re getting.” She was still murmuring something but Jessica drifted off to sleep with a smile on her face, knowing that she won.

It didn’t even seem like a long time until Tiffany came back to wake Jessica up. Sighing heavily, Jessica then got up and headed for the bathroom. “Wanna shower together?” she yelled from the bathroom.

“We could’ve but I already showered. You should’ve woken up when I was waking you up the first time!” Tiffany yelled from Jessica’s room.

What? There was no way Tiffany showered in just five minutes. “That was five minutes ago!”

Tiffany stood by the door, leaning; her arms were crossed on her chest. “No, Jessi. That was almost forty minutes ago. I gave you more time, you know? Anyway, shower already.”

“You sure you don’t wanna shower?” Jessica held the hem of her shirt. “Together?”

“As much as this tempts me, you’re the one who woke up late. Now, go. We’re leaving soon.” Tiffany then walked away after she closed the bathroom door.

*******

It was a good thing that her girlfriend packed her things so she didn’t have to worry about that. The flight crew actually came down to pick up their things, and she made sure they brought her laptop case and briefcase as well, which they did. That was why she had been reading her documents, making sure the numbers matches each chart. Occasionally, Tiffany would tap her shoulder and then pointing at different attractive sights. Jessica was glad she was having fun since this day was for her anyway. That was why she figured to do most of her job on the helicopter so she would spend more time with Tiffany on land.

“Miss Jung, Miss Hwang, we are landing soon.”

Jessica looked at her watch, and it was almost one o’clock; they didn’t even eat yet. Since she woke up late, they were behind schedule. They were supposed to arrive there at twelve so they could eat lunch with her grandparents. Jessica sighed as she began to put her documents away.

When they landed, there was a golf cart waiting for them since the villa was still half a mile away and there was no way Jessica would walk that. Jessica exited first with the help of the co-pilot. She then reached her hand out, trying to assist Tiffany as well.

“That was fun!” Tiffany said in a jolly tone.

Jessica smiled. “Glad you liked the ride. Anyway, let’s go since I’m hungry.” She quickly led her to the golf cart and when the attended greeted both of them with a formal bow, she got on. When their luggage was loaded, they headed for the villa.

“You’re really something,” Tiffany said, not believing what she was experiencing. Everything was surreal to her: the amazing girlfriend, the helicopter ride, last night, the party, and so much more. It really seemed like a beautiful dream based on a fairy tale movie or something, and it was scary to wake up to something mundane after this.

“What?” Confused, Jessica cocked her head to the side.

Smiling softly with her  she then shook her head. “I said, I love you.” Jessica simply smiled back and quickly landed a kiss on Tiffany’s lips. Shocked with what her girlfriend did, Tiffany sat up straight and looked at the attended in front of them and then around, trying to see if someone saw them. “Jessi,” she said as she wore a worried expression, scowling.

“What?”

“What if someone sees?” she whispered.

Jessica simply shrugged. “Let them.”

“What?!”

“Let them. I don’t care. I mean, unless you want to hide this, then yeah. I’ll restrain myself.” Jessica said as she held Tiffany’s hand.

“It’s not that.”

“Then what? I honestly don’t like hiding us, Tiffany.” She sighed. “It’s not like I want to tell the whole world I’m with you, but I want to tell those who matter. But if you’re not ready, then I can’t do anything about that.” Which was true. There was no need for her to tell the whole world they were in to girls, but that didn’t mean they should conceal this from the people that loved them. To strangers, Jessica didn’t care what they would think, but how about her grandparents? Her parents? It would be a shock, but it was still better than going around, hiding this from them. Plus, she felt somewhat guilty that her parents were nothing but good to Tiffany, especially her mother. She knew about Tiffany’s birthday, and so she said she would foot the bill; of course, Jessica still didn’t let her, but the thought that came with the offer was genuine. Just yesterday her father found out that it was Tiffany’s birthday so she was positive that he would have something delivered by Sunday when they returned. He was just that type of man; they were both great people in their own way. Ever since she was a kid, she thought that if there were more than twenty-four hours in one day, maybe her parents would be the perfect parents in the world, but of course that was just a wishful thinking of a child.

“I just don’t want to create an issue for you.” Tiffany was dejected as she bowed her head.

Jessica cupped her face. “No, it’ll be fine. I’ll tell my grandparents today.”

“Today?!”

“Yeah,” she said as she pointed at the back entrance of their home as they finally stopped. From there, they could see her grandparents waiting at the sunroom so she grabbed Tiffany’s hand. “Granny! Grandpa!” she waved at them enthusiastically, and also out of character. The old couple looked at them as the younger couple approached them.

“How was the trip, Jessica? Tiffany?” Grandma Park asked as she gave each of them a hug. “We should eat now. Hurry, come,” she pulled them to the dining table that was set up there in the sunroom, overlooking the land. The ambiance had always been nice there especially when they added the back garden and the pool. “So, how was the trip?”

“It was more convenient than driving. Thanks, by the way.” Jessica said to both of them.

“So, Tiffany, did you enjoy the view?” The old man asked as he placed his newspaper on the side of the table.

“I really loved it.” She said as she sat beside Jessica.

“What’s for lunch?” Jessica asked since she was hungry.

“Your grandma had someone cook some dishes.” There were four attendants who brought lobster bisque for their first course. “We’re hoping you’re not allergic to seafood, Tiffany,” he said with a smile on his face.

“I love seafood,” she replied with a smile on her face.

After starting their lunch, they were all chatting merrily, not letting Jessica start her announcement. She had been waiting for awhile now, but they had been on-going with their small talks. From what course Tiffany was taking and her plans in life to her hobbies.

“Are you dating anyone?” Her grandfather asked.

Tiffany quickly looked at her with worry in her eyes. Jessica knew she didn’t know what say so she then called, “Grandpa, granny,” she looked at them respectively. She took in a deep breath and simply let the words pour out in hopes of making sense. “I’m dating Tiffany.” The older couple didn’t say a word and just looked at each other. That was weird since her grandfather had always been the smart-mouth, whom Jessica got that from. Wouldn’t he say a thing or two about it? Tiffany looked at Jessica; her face was distorted. So not liking the silence or the look on Tiffany’s face, she then said, “What? Aren’t you guys going to ask questions?”

“Well, Jessica, what do you want from us?” Her grandfather raised his brow. “Honestly, it’s not shocking at all. We’re expecting you to actually say something about this sooner or later.”

Jessica wiped with the black table napkin and placed it back on her lap. “Wait, what?”

“Honey,” her grandmother started. “Your grandfather and I already thought about this the first time you visited. Plus, let’s say your cousin isn’t really the best person to hide things.”

“That brat,” Jessica mumbled as she make a mental note to strangle her cousin the next time they met.

“Now, now,” her grandmother placed her napkin on the table. “Hyomin actually told us that one day, if you do tell us anything, we should just accept and help you.” She flashed a smile.

“Isn’t it odd? That girl actually told us that you’re not the type of person who would tell us something like this, and if you do, support you.” Her grandfather now said, and then he looked at Tiffany. “My granddaughter, Hyomin, said that this is all your doing; changing Jessica, I mean. And that we shouldn’t judge both of you for being happy.”

Wait, Jessica was still trying to comprehend everything. Her cousin, Hyomin, actually talked to her grandparents about them? Even before they were together, she was already preparing them to this day? Honestly, Jessica was impressed since she never expected this from her, especially from her. But, then again, they had always been there for each other since they were young so maybe this really was in character. Despite being the odd one, Hyomin was the only one who truly understood her, and she was thankful; it seemed like ever since Tiffany appeared, her debt to her cousin had been piling up.

“It’s not like we will, dear.” Grandma Park said to Tiffany. “Who are we to judge, anyway? We can’t let one granddaughter to be herself and restrain the other, right?” Tiffany wore a forced smile on her face, most likely bewildered by the situation. “It’s fine. And if you do want to tell your parents, we’ll be here to support you both,” she continued.

“Thank you, granny.” Jessica said, still surprised that they were fine with it, thanks to her cousin. “I don’t know when I’ll tell my parents, but soon.”

“I’m sure they’ll be fine with it.” Her grandfather said. “What are they going to do anyway? After neglecting you for years, now that you found someone to be there for you, they both don’t have any right to tell both of you girls otherwise.” He pointed a finger to nowhere in particular.

“That’s the thing, grandpa, Mom might flip and Tiffany’s under her s---”

“The scholarship, you say? Well, who is your grandpa?” He said with a smile on his face. “If things turn for the worst, we’ll be here for you. I don’t care if your paternal side goes crazy because of this, actually that would be fun, but let’s hope that won’t happen. But if they do try to do anything you don’t like, we’ll be here for you.” Her grandfather used to get along with her paternal side; however, ever since the accident and the divorce talks her parents had, he harbored ill-feelings for her paternal-grandparents.

“Thanks!” Jessica got up from her seat and hugged her grand parents, one in each arm.

“But we believe your parents will accept you. Really. There is no parent out there who would be ashamed to have you as a daughter, Jessica.” Her grandmother said as she held Jessica’s arm.

“I hope so.”

“We know your mother best. She might even be happy to have both of you with her,” Grandpa Park said. “Anyway, let’s continue eating.

“That looks like a bunny,” Tiffany pointed at the sky. They were both at the balcony sharing the same recliner; Tiffany’s head was on Jessica’s arm. “That one looks like a giraffe.” Jessica chucked at Tiffany’s words. She wasn’t sure how the girl was finding all these creatures she had been saying, but for as long as she was having fun, it was fine.

“You’re not even enjoying the view, Jessi,” Tiffany said as she looked up to see her girlfriend was reading some documents again. Jessica couldn’t help it since more work piled up for her; Kahi informed her that there were changes on the numbers and so everything needed to be re-calculated once again. “We shouldn’t have gone if you’re busy.”

Jessica shook her head as she placed the documents on the side table, where their drinks and snacks also sat. Trying her best to comfort Tiffany, she wrapped arm around Tiffany, pushing her even more closer; her hand was on Tiffany’s waist. “I’m glad I’m here, really. I’m really sorry that I’m busy with work.”

“I just want you to not overwork yourself,” Tiffany said.

Jessica simply shook her head. “I’m fine. I really like going to work and coming home to you. So it’s not so bad.” She placed her cheek on the top of Tiffany’s head. “One day, we’ll both go to work and be busy, but we’ll still come home and we’ll be fine.” Despite having too much workload, Jessica didn’t mind since she knew that it was also a foundation for their relationship in the future. Sure, she had enough money because of her trust-fund; however, Tiffany wouldn’t be happy to live life like that if they both didn’t work hard.

Something was glistening on her girlfriend’s chest, and so she looked closely and noticed it was the present she gave her. With a smile on her face, she lightly touched it. “I didn’t notice you were wearing it.”

Tiffany then moved to a comfortable position, now on her side; her arm was on Jessica’s stomach. “I just put it on after showering.” Since they finished the garden dinner with the grandparents, they decided they should at least freshen up since they were in the pool for at least an hour. “I didn’t want to lose it whilst swimming.”

“You better not,” Jessica said.

It would’ve been nice if they stayed there for awhile in their own little world; however, she knew that every time she wished for things to happen, it never did. To prove her point, one of the maids informed Jessica that her father was on the line for her so she went in the room, and spoke with her father. He was telling her that the reports should be done by Thursday instead of Monday. “But that’s impossible!” Jessica argued. There was just no way they could submit everything by then. That was shorting them two days worth of work.

“Jessica, we have a board’s meeting on Friday so we need it done by Thursday. I don’t care if your team pulls over-time. Just get this done.” She understood that right now, she was an employee first before a daughter, and so she didn’t have much choice, actually she didn’t really have a choice, but to comply. “I’ll call the team in on Sunday then,” she said with a sigh.

“I have high expectations, Jessica.” Her father said, and she knew that. He always had high expectations, which she always met; however, now was different. She was supposed to be on a vacation with Tiffany. “Bye, I love you.”

Before even replying, the line already ended. She sighed as she looked at the phone, and then placing it on the counter. It would break her heart to tell Tiffany that they would need to leave tomorrow night instead, but they could also leave Sunday morning. She then grabbed her phone from her pocket, sending an email to her team, informing them that they have to show up on Sunday for mandatory overtime; she also expressed that she was sorry, but it wouldn’t be just them there since she, too, would cut her vacation short.

As she walked out, she didn’t know how to tell Tiffany; she didn’t want her girlfriend to think that her number one priority in life was her work, but right now, she had no position to defy her father. “Tiffany,” she called as she sat next to her girlfriend, embracing her from behind and then apologized as she explained the situation.

Sometimes, she couldn’t help but wonder: Would things be the same if she was normal? Obviously, it wouldn’t. Even she told Tiffany that had she not been herself, nothing would be the same. But she couldn’t hide this wishful side of her: having her girlfriend there beside her at any time would really be lovely. Unfortunately, she was Jung Jessica, and she didn’t have such normal circumstances. And for that, she was apologetic. “I’m sorry,” she repeated again.

Chapter 17: Actually I'm glad that Taeyeon has the same feelings towards Sica... but the way she's been doing all this time is wrong, and Sica doesn't deserve to be treated like that... so it's better for Sica to move on.
