Chapter Twenty-Three

Since Jessica owed her cousin for lending her the car, Hyomin called her just now, stating that Jessica should inform the building’s management to permit their landing in thirty minutes. Her cousin even demanded to be taken to a really fancy restaurant at her expense. Hyomin was astonished at the fact that the blonde didn’t try to argue about needing to take her and Sunny out. But, then, why would she try to refuse this when her cousin was the very reason she finally got together with Tiffany? At this point, if Hyomin asked for her car, she proabably would be fine with it since she was in cloud nine.

“Did you get lai---”

Knowing that her stupid cousin was going to say something inappropriate, “No!” Jessica exclaimed before she could finish and then continued, “I’ll see you later.” She didn’t even let her cousin speak since she knew she would only be teased by that idiot. She just knew her too well to even bother giving her a chance or time to do so. However, the blonde knew deep down that the teasing from her peer would come later when they finally revealed they were officially an item. Weird enough, she didn't particularly cared if they were to be made fun of since she knew her friends. It was just a way to show they were happy for them.

She looked around, seeking for her cordless home phone, and when she did, she walked towards it and dialed the operator’s number, informing them that there was a helicopter landing for her. She told them that it would be the same information as the last time someone landed for her there.

Since they needed to get ready for dinner, she walked toward her girlfriend's room. “Tiffany,” she called as she lightly knocked on the dark mahogany door. “Can I come in?” Obviously, since they just recently got together - not even a day had passed - she was still acting as though they were friends. Plus, even if she was her girlfriend she was the type of person to respect someone’s privacy, not wanting to pry or seem like overbearing.

“Sure.” And so she turned the knob, pushing the heavy door, revaealing Tiffany, welcoming her with a smile as she sat on her bed, legs crossed with her laptop seated on her lap. “I’m just checking my emails. What’s up?” she said as she patted the empty space next to her, inviting Jessica to sit beside her, which the blonde complied.

“We’re going out for dinner, okay?” Jessica said as she peeped at Tiffany’s monitor, seeing that the girl was on her social media. “Email, eh?” she teased, arching her brow in the process. Tiffany giggled as she clicked on the tab where her email was pulled up, showing it to Jessica. She then quickly changed the topic by telling the blonde she didn’t mind going out. It would be a good thing if they didn't end up cooking since they were still both tired from the travel last night. “Hyomin wants to go to a fine dining place; are you sure you're fine with that?” In all honesty, Jessica looked forward to bring the girl to that place since it was one of her favorite restaurants in Seoul. Even though it was at the place where Tiffany used to work at, it would be a different location anyway. That hotel pretty much spelled *luxury*, setting a great standard between them and those who were mediocre. Plus, she would be able to tell her cousin and Sunny that they were finally together, and she looked forward to Hyomin's confounded face when she broke the news. Tiffany paused for a little bit, thinking to herself. “Please?” Jessica said, almost begging.

Tiffany just giggled, cocking it to the side, as she rested it on Jessica’s shoulder, which the latter liked a lot; it made her feel as though they really were together and were in love with each other the whole time since they were comfortable with this; although, this morning was an exception, she giggled at the memory. “You don’t have to beg," Tiffany said.

“I wasn’t begging,” she answered quickly. She didn't like that it seemed like she was a bit desperate. “I just want you to go there with me.”

“And I want to go anywhere with you,” Tiffany then moved her head and rested her chin on Jessica’s shoulder as she looked the latter in the eyes; their faces were inches away. For a week, Jessica couldn’t even imagine that they would be in this kind of relationship. After finally realizing her budding feelings for Tiffany, she wanted to be so close to the girl so she could hug and kiss her, but she had to bottle everything inside, making her daily life a bit more frustrating. However, now, Tiffany was there with her and she couldn’t help but lean forward, landing her lips with the other’s. It was quick, but it was still Tiffany’s lips. Regardless, she was just happy that it proved she was not in a dream that whatever things happened until now wasn't just part of her overly active imagination.

“I can’t believe you’re actually so sweet,” Tiffany said as she sat straight and went back to reading her friends’ posts on her social media timeline.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Jessica asked to which Tiffany shrugged in response, which caused the blonde to ask again and was now stating that the girl couldn’t leave things hanging like this. “Did you think I’d be a horrible partner or something?” Sure, Jessica wasn’t the best person to be around with since she picked whoever could be close to her, but that didn’t mean that she would be a horrible partner. If she picked someone she would love, she would devote so much just for them, and she was a bit surprised her girlfriend thought so little of her. But she really couldn't complain since she did a lot of wrong things to Tiffany at the very beginning; she frowned at this thought. She wished she could've had a better start with the new person who captured her heart, but that isn't possible. Although, had she been nice since the beginning, where would that lead them?

Her girlfriend shook her head and then said, “No, it’s not that I think you’re horrible. It’s just that,” she paused and then placed her index finger on her lips. “Had I never been part of your life and I would just hear rumors about you, I just think you’re the type of person who wouldn’t care,” she finished with a sigh as she closed her eyes. Before Jessica could talk, Tiffany continued, “I’m glad I was crying in the parking garage. I think that’s one of the best decisions in my life.”

Jessica passed it as a joke, snorting a laugh. “To be cheated on?”

"I don’t mind it at all.”

“Well, you wouldn’t have to worry about that around me. I’m so against cheaters.” She winked as she got up. “Get ready. We’ll leave in thirty minutes.”

“Yeah, because I really feel like ants are about to crawl here if we don’t stop,” Tiffany said, laughing. “I’ll get ready.” She then closed her monitor and headed for her closet, while Jessica went to her room, preparing for an attire.

*****

“Miss Jung, Miss Park,” the host greeted as she smiled at them. Since Jessica’s mother was one of the most influential people in the whole hotel chain, it was only natural for them to recognize the only child of their Director and Vice President. Not only that, but Jessica’s father always took her there before, always having the presidential room reserved

Tiffany just smiled. “Yeah. Now,for his family or his colleagues. “Come this way,” she said as she asked for them to follow her.

Just before being seated, a man called out to Jessica, so the blonde looked to where it came from. From the smiling face she had on as she talked to Tiffany while holding hands, it turned to a bitter expression, almost as though looking at that man in disgust. Hyomin caught the look on Jessica’s face so she followed her gaze, realizing the cause of it. “Cous, just walk. Just don’t make eye con--- too late.” She sighed as the guy was already walking towards them. When he was close enough, Hyomin then greeted him. “Hey, Leetuek,” she plastered a smile on her face, trying her best to be as polite as possible. She wasn't like Jessica, so she would try to please this man despite not liking him.

“I’m actually here with my friends,” he said as he pointed over his shoulder, there were two guys there. “Join us.” The smile on his face was unpleasant to Jessica to a point of wanting to tell him to get lost.

“No, thank you,” Jessica said with no emotions. There was just no way in hell would she ruin this time she planned to enjoy with Tiffany because of this ostentatious brat. Ever since they first met, she never liked him since he was a show-off. He was the type to only pick his friends based on their status in the business society or the political circle since his stepfather was the mayor. Moreover, she knew they were being invited so he could settle a good amount of  money from the Jung and the Park family, soliciting money for his father’s upcoming campaign, thinking about running for national office. At first, she never knew why her father supported such a corrupt politician, putting him in power, but as she aged she realized that those were the types of politicians that would break rules in order to repay debts, which caused the blonde to admire business minded people more. However, she was not her father, so there was no way she would have to put up with this guy. Maybe in the future, if this man were to stand in a good leveled position and she successfully took over their business, maybe then she would actually try her best to have a decent conversation with this guy. But that wouldn't be today.

“Aw, come on, Jessica.” He placed his hand on Jessica’s shoulder, which the blonde shrugged off. He was really the type of person to just do what he wanted simply because his stepdad was a politician. “Miss,” he said as he looked at the hostess. “Set up a table enough for our party, please?”

“Hyomin, le---”

“Jessica, why don’t we just join them? Since you and Hyomin know him anyway?” Sunny said with a smile on her face. She wasn’t the type to refuse an invitation. If it was a chance to meet possible new friends, why not? But why should Jessica comply? She wasn’t dating the girl.

“N---”

“It wouldn’t hurt, Jessi,” Tiffany chimed in as she looked at her in the eyes.

Now what was she say? Be the bad person when her girlfriend already asked her? “Whatever,” she said with a sigh. Even though she really wanted to be as far away as possible from Leetuek, she didn’t have a choice. But if he said something to Tiffany that would offend the girl, Leetuek better be prepared. He was just that type of person, but maybe it would be a good thing so that Tiffany would know what type of person surrounded them, and she would actually know if she wanted to stay with the blonde in the long run.

He better not hit on Tiffany, the blonde thought as she got seated with Leetuek’s party. The two guys were both introduced to them, but she never bothered remembering since she knew she wouldn’t need to anyway since they were part of Leetuek’s peer. He ususally surrounded himself with a bunch of ostentaious people anyway. Her only concern was for them to not try to make a move on her girlfriend, and that would already make her night since she set her standards too low now that Leetuek was there with them.

Since she was in a foul mood, the blonde just concentrated on Tiffany and let her cousin handle the pesky guy. Since Tiffany wasn’t familiar with the food, the blonde was explaining to her that it was fine to eat rabbit; tuna with caviar was also a great choice, but she recommended the lobster since it was something she knew her girlfriend liked anyway. Seeing how Tiffany seemed displeased with the choices of food, she then said with a smile on her face.“How about we go for the usual steak? Don’t you also like steak?” Her girlfriend just looked at her so she continued. “I’ll order steak, too.” This caused Tiffany to be more at ease so the tensed look on her face slowly vanished.

“That’s not even on the menu, Jessica. How about I order for---”

The blonde looked at Leetuek, displeased. She then coldly said, “How about you mind your own business?”

“Jessi,” Tiffany said as she placed her hand on Jessica’s. She looked at the latter, confused by her sudden change of attitude.

The blonde just rolled her eyes and then avoided making eye contact with the guy. She went ahead and ordered a Kobe steak - one plate for each. They didn’t even tell her that it wasn’t on the menu since they would do a lot of things to please Jessica, and the blonde knew that. That was the very reason she knew she could at least have Tiffany have a lovely meal that the girl would enjoy - not one that she would feel disgusted to eat. But then, even the blonde didn't like the fact that they sometimes served pigeons. That was just disgusting, so she felt for Tiffany as well.

After the meal that the blonde didn’t enjoy since the plan she had in her head was ruined, she was relieved that they could leave and just talk at a bar or at her place. She wasn’t even able to tell her cousin that she and Tiffany were officially together since Leetuek was there, who was being entertained by her cousin. But she really couldn't stand whatever gossip Leetuek was spreading such as this person's family was a social climber, not knowing their place. It took everything in Jessica to not call him off as he was once as ordinary as that word could be. She just concentrated on making Tiffany feel better, hoping that her girlfriend wouldn't regret being with her since Leetuek was the type of person they would need to deal with in the future.

“It's fine. Let me get the bill,” Leetuek said to the group, feeling smug as the server left the bill on the table.

Jessica swore she hated this guy since she knew he was just showing off. She was about to say something, but Tiffany then said, “No. We’ll pay our share.”

“Hunny,” Leetuek started, which struck a chord in Jessica. Hunny? Was this guy on crack, calling somebody else’s girlfriend that, but before she could say anything, Leetuek continued, “I’m rich.”

“Who the says that?” Jessica was upset, but it wasn’t to a point to cuss at someone in a formal setting, so she whispered this to Hyomin, who sat beside her.

"I don't know if you would be able to afford what you ate," he said jokingly.

Sometimes, she really didn't understand how people could be so ostentatious. There was no point in saying this if you really were from money, but then Jessica wasn't the type to just take sh!t from people, so she then said, "Tiffany," she smiled at her and then continued, "You paid your taxes last year, right?"

"Of course. Isn't it illegal not to?" Tiffany was a bit confused by the sudden change of topic.

"Well, since you paid your taxes, think of it as this dinner's payment. I'm sure you can afford it by the help of our lovely politicians," Jessica was nonchalant when she said this; unfazed by the fact that Leetuek was just there. "So let him pay. It's our money, too." With this, it seemed like the cherry on top, but Tiffany didn't understand what was funny as she saw Hyomin giggling, trying to suppress it to become laughters.

Leetuek was taken aback by what Jessica said, so he passed it off as a joke to seem calm. "*You're always so funny, Jessica*," he said in English accompanied by his thick, Korean accent.

"*But my father's not like that*."

Like many of these rich people, they think speaking in English would make them better than the rest, and Jessica hated it. It was pretty stupid to begin with, but most of the people in their circle could speak the language because they studied as international students at one point, which required a lot of money. "*Oh? Because your dad told me himself.*" This was really true. At one of the parties her father held at their house before, Leetuek's father was there, boasting about their ill-gotten wealth when he already had a drink too many, and that was one reason she knew it wasn't just a rumor.

*"He was probably joking."* He then looked at Tiffany.

Not wanting Tiffany to be looked down by anybody in this social circle, she then looked at her and said, "*His dad's the mayor*." She knew Leetuek was already sizing Tiffany and Sunny down since they got there.

"*Oh? That's nice?*" Tiffany's tone was indifferent, not knowing what to say after that. But she figured, she should at least hold a conversation with someone who was acquainted with her girlfriend.

"I guess you can say that." Jessica went back to speaking in Korean. It would just be better for them anyway so Sunny could understand them as well. "Leetuek's mother was the former secretary of the mayor. Then they got married, so yeah. That's pretty much why Leetuek acts this way."

Leetuek tried his best to put on a show, laughing as though he found what Jessica said and implied funny. "I can't believe you actually know my life story," he then looked at Jessica. "I didn't know you're actually that interested in me."

"Interested? In you?" Jessica chuckled as she looked at Hyomin. "I didn't know some people are this deluded." After that, she looked at him in the eyes. "I'm not that desperate. The only reason I know about you is because other people can't stop talking about how annoying you are. So please," she then fished for her wallet from her bag, grabbing her money and placing the appropriate amount plus more; much, much more. "Next time you try to be rude because they're not of the same status as you, think about where you came from. Because being rich isn't supposed to be like this. Learn your place," she said coldly as she grabbed Tiffany's hand. Sure, she said one thing too many, but this was her nature. This was another side of Jessica that Tiffany should know of because the blonde wouldn't be playing pretend. She had always been the type of person to say whatever was in her mind if she couldn't contain it anymore, and so it was clearly shown today. Plus, there was no way she would let whatever he said fly even if it was simply a joke. He had no right to do that to anybody, especially to those who she loved.

As they were walking out, Jessica could hear Hyomin laughing in hysteria. She then stood next to the blonde and said, "I can't believe you finally told him off. Took you years to do that." She wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes. "This is too good to be true."

"It's just the first time in my life that I had to sit down with him and actually listen to his bullsh!t. I really despise people like him."

"Then why did we dine with him?" Tiffany said.

Jessica looked her in the eyes. Just with the sad look on Tiffany's face, she couldn't help but sigh. "Because you said we should."

"Wait!" Hyomin said as she held the her cousin's free hand. "Before we get in the car, I've been wondering this since earlier," she paused and looked at Jessica to Tiffany to their hands linking and then back at Jessica, "Are you guys da---"

"Yeah. We're dating," Jessica said before her cousin could finish her question. The frown on her face earlier turned into a smile as she raised her hand, which was linked with Tiffany's.

"Oh?!" Sunny jumped in the conversation as she peeked over Hyomin's shoulder. She then rushed to Jessica, hugging her. "You finally have one serious relationship," she said, pretending as though she was crying. "Finally," she kept repeating like a mantra so the blonde just pushed her, telling the shorter girl to stop. Not listening, Sunny then wrapped her arms around Tiffany's waist. "How did you manage to tame that dragon? How? We've tried for years!"

"Shut up. You're getting annoying," Jessica said as she rolled her eyes.

Not minding Jessica's heedings, she contiuned, "I really don't know what kind of witchcraft you did, but it worked! I guess bribing her with alcohol wasn't enough," her last words trailed off, as though unsure. After collecting herself together, she looked at the blonde with a bright smile on her face, pulling her into a group hug with Tiffany. "I'm elated that you're together! Really!"

"Hey!" Hyomin then joined, embracing them as well. "Don't forget about me. I'm really happy for them as well, you know?" Not liking the fact that they were causing a scene, Jessica pushed the idiotic couple, but she didn't let go of Tiffany's hand. "But Jessica, shouldn't you be happy enough today? Why did you snap at Leetuek like that?" Hyomin then shrugged. "Although, he deserves it. It's just that I would never have the balls to do that. My parents would kill me if I offended anybody in the political circle."

Rolling her eyes, Jessica then answered, "He deserves it. Just because his stepdad's the mayor, that doesn't mean he can belittle everybody around him. To be honest, I didn't care much about him before to the point of snapping at him, but today? He was just extra annoying."

Hyomin laughed. "Is it because she called Tiffany 'Hunny' or is it because he wasn't nice to her?" She then looked at Tiffany. "Well, if I were you, I'd be upset for both reasons."

"Exactly. I despise that guy," Jessica answered as she started to head to the valet.

"Jessi," Tiffany called as she tightened the grip on Jessica. "Next time, we don't have to dine with anybody you hate. You just have to tell me, okay?" She smiled at the blonde when their eyes met, which the latter beamed a smile in return. "I'll dislike whoever you dislike."

"Taecyeon," Jessica murmured to herself, but was heard by Tiffany. Knowing she couldn't go back on her this, she then said, "I hate that Taecyeon guy with a passion." After saying this, she headed rapidly for the exit with Tiffany in tow. Even though she was embarrassed, there was just no way she would let go of her hands. Now that she finally got it, she assured herself to never let it go.

"I never knew Jessica was the jealous type," Sunny joked, who was walking just behind them; she said this loud enough for the new couple to hear.

Shaking her head, Hyomin’s rebuttal was, "I really think she's just the hateful type," she said to her girlfriend.

Jessica looked back, glaring at them and said one word, "Die."

********

Exhausted. That was the best thing that would best describe Jessica lately. Unbeknownst to her, the work load at the office doubled for some reason so her days had always been a routine. She would wake up in the morning with breakfast already prepared for by Tiffany; just when her driver arrives, she would head to the office; she would work and actually be  productive; and when everything was finished, she would be dropped off home, where Tiffany awaited.

Frankly speaking, Jessica was still slowly trying to adapt to the change in their relationship. Just more than a week ago she and Tiffany were regular friends, but, now, they were something more; it pleased her greatly, but it also caused some confusion in her like not knowing how to treat Tiffany better, when she already tried her best before to do so even without the title of being the girlfriend. How much should she change when interacting with the girl? To them, everything was practically the same except for the kisses and hugs, and that was actually perfectly fine.

"Jessi," Tiffany called for her attention, and so the blonde stopped reading her  materials from work, laying it on her chest as she looked up. The girl bowed down to meet her eyes; she laid on Tiffany's lap as she watched a movie, whilst the blonde did things for work. "Taeyang and Heechul are inviting us to go to the bar later. Should we?"

"Up to you," she answered. Figuring this was inevitable, might as well meet up with her friends. They were able to put it off until today anyway since she told Hyomin and Sunny to not speak a word about them just yet. It wasn't because she was embarrassed by the girl, but she wanted to be with Tiffany without the preying eyes of her friends. Was it bad to enjoy her girlfriend's company without teasing from friends? She already had enough from her cousin, so this break was somewhat needed.

"If you're feeling lazy, I really don't mind just staying like this," Tiffany answered as she grabbed the paper Jessica was reading. She looked at it, skimmed it a little and then said, "You're up to something really boring though. Don't you need a break?"

Boring? Jessica giggled. True. It wasn't the best thing to do on  a weekend, but it was still something that would help her get home earlier during the week. Had she not done this, she would probably pull overtime days at work, which she didn't want since Tiffany would end up eating alone. "Then let's go to the bar and have fun."

"Are you sure you have the spare time?" Tiffany looked at her, worried. To assure her, Jessica smiled as she got up, telling Tiffany that they should get ready. Of course Jessica had that time if it would be spent with Tiffany.

*****

“Are you sure you want to tell them?” Tiffany asked as she was shaking Jessica’s grip on her hand, so the latter tightened her hold without saying a word. Why would Tiffany even ask such a question? First of all, it wasn’t like she was friends with homophobes; there was no reason for her to worry. Second, she was proud to have such a beautiful girlfriend. Third, she wanted everybody and their mothers to know they were in a relationship, so they wouldn’t try to steal the girl from her. Obviously, she had no issues with finally telling her friends. “I just don’t want Taeye---”

“Tiffany,” Jessica called as she sighed. She knew she didn’t tell her anything about Taeyeon, confessing to her and her turning her down, but did she think that Jessica still had feelings for her best friend? Sure, she didn’t talk about it, but wasn’t it a given that she already got over her since she was in a new relationship now? “There’s nothing between us,” she said as they walked towards their friends. “Trust me?” Her eyes were not meeting Tiffany’s as she looked at the group, who were welcoming them.

“I trust you.” Tiffany said.

“Good,” Jessica said before saying greeting their friends, who were, yet again, occupying two tables. “Seems like you already started without us.”

“Well, we didn’t know if you’d show up or not,” Taeyang raised his shot glass and chugged it down. Knowing him, he probably had a shot of tequila, Jessica thought. “I was starting to wonder if,” he paused and moved a seat over, giving enough space for her and Tiffany to sit next to each other, and then he continued, “I should call the cops on you for kidnapping Tiffany.”

Rolling her eyes, Jessica answered, “Shut up. Like I would do something like that.” She then took a seat and placed her bag on the floor, under the table, and then took Tiffany’s from her, placing it next to her bag. “What do you want to drink?”

“Baby Blue, maybe?” Tiffany was hesitant since she wasn’t really into the whole drinking scene and her knowledge of the drinks aren’t so broad. “How about you?”

Jessica paused for a bit, thinking on the drink to get. “I’m leaning towards getting the Irish Trash Can,” she said with much content and excitement for her drink.

“I never heard of it. What’s in it?”

“Vodka!” Taeyang intervened. “Vodka, vodka, rum, gin, red bull, and some sweet stuff.”

Jessica laughed. “I do like vodka.”  She then looked at Tiffany. “But I think that’s too strong for you. Just stick to Baby Blue or White Russian, if you want?” She tightened her grip on Tiffany’s hand, reassuring her.

“Wait a minute.” Heechul chimed in and then held the couple’s hands, raising it so that everybody could see it. “I’ve noticed this since they walked in.” His brow was arched as he then looked at Jessica. “Are you guys… you know? Together?” The way he asked made Jessica chuckle. “I’m serious! Are you guys together, finally?”

“Yeah… just last week,” Tiffany answered as she bit her lower lip, trying to hide the smile that was threatening to come out.

“Why didn’t you tell us?!” Heechul exclaimed.

“We told Sunny and Hyomin,” Jessica nonchalantly said, throwing her cousin under the bus.

“Those two… good thing they’re not yet here or I would’ve choked them,” He answered.

“Open a tab, Jessica!” Taeyang demanded. “It’s your treat today!”

“Yeah,” Heechul then looked at Jessica  as he hugged Tiffany. “Since you hid this from us, you’re buying drinks!”

“Woot!” Yuri raised her fist, rolling it in the air as she cheered them on. “Congrats, guys!” She raised her glass and said, “Cheers! Now Jessica can lose her V passport!” She then stopped laughing and cocked her head to the side. “Unless they’ve done it…” she trailed off.

“No!” Jessica shot her a glare. “What do you take Tiffany for?!”

Heechul laughed. “Well, we over estimated you, Jessica. We thought you’d be able to do grown-up stuff, but we were wrong.”

“Hey Tiffany,” Taeyang called. “Tell us if you guys ever---”

“Go yourselves.” Jessica said. “Anyway, open the tab. I’m hungry. Order some pizza, too.” She waved her credit card so she the server could start with it.

“Hey, Taeyeon,” Taeyang called and so the girl who sat there quietly looked up with a soft smile on her face. “Won’t you congratulate Jessica?” Great. Why mention that? The blonde looked at Taeyeon and then at Tiffany. “Aren’t you happy she finally found someone who can hold her leash? That’s just less work for you.” He finished. Since he didn’t know anything that happened between the two, Jessica wasn’t really in the position to be upset with him; she knew he was just being his usual self.

“Congrats,” Taeyeon said with a smile on her face. “Tiffany, take care of Jessica.” Was it only Jessica that heard the almost choking sound that came from Taeyeon?

“Don’t worry, I will.” Tiffany said and then started to mingle amongst the others.

Jessica looked back at Taeyeon, who was softly smiling at her, once. It seemed as though that smile was genuine; although, it seemed to be accompanied by some pain. Despite how much she despises what Taeyeon did to her, she still wasn’t the type of person to hold grudges on people she once loved. Taeyeon was still a dear best friend to her. Maybe, in the future, they would return to normal. But, for now, her priority was Tiffany and the girl’s happiness. That was all.
