Chapter One

Soul Searching (JeTi)

Chapter One

It was two days away from Spring break so everyone was cramming to submit all their thesis paper and reports; however, being the genius Jessica was, she already finished everything a week prior. Although, that didn’t really stop her friends from dragging her in the library to study with them. The blonde haired girl couldn’t help but eye her phone that was in her grasp. She was supposed to be talking to a really hot girl that one of her friend was setting her up with, but there was no type of contact from the latter – no text or phone calls.

She threw her phone on the table, grunting. “Urgh!” she ruffled her hair; frustrated that there was nothing to do.

“What’s wrong with you?” Heechul, one of Jessica’s best friends, asked but showed very little concern as his eyes were still on his phone, idling on the chair as he pretended to study.

Jessica paid no attention to Heechul and remained mum. Sighing, she grabbed her phone again and scrolled every person on her contact list. “I’m really, really bored. You guys are stupid people, why am I stuck with you guys?”

“Aren’t you always stuck with us and always bored?” Taeyang chimed in after he was done doing his Chemistry homework. Well, he did start on one question more than thirty minutes ago and Jessica’s money was on it that his final answer was still wrong. “We’re not like you, you know? We need time to actually study.”

Jessica rolled her eyes. “You’re just not the sharpest pencil in the box, Taeyang. Even ‘dullest’ wouldn’t do you justice.”

“Ouch!” Heechul teased along.

“You’re one to talk…” Taeyang mumbled.

“I’m not as bad as you.” Heechul smirked.

Jessica felt her phone vibrate and so she read the message. “The people you’re setting me up with are a bunch’a weirdoes... you know that?” Jessica said as she read a new messaged that was sent to her. She threw her phone on the table, “Read that.”

Sender: Guy#18

I want you to meet my mom.
Please! I promise she’ll really like you.

Taeyang and Heechul laughed in unison, but tried to suppress it since they were in the library.

Jessica had always been stuck with the weird ones- her friends and the people that were set up with her. She occasionally wonders if she did something wrong in her previous life to be stuck with these people. “See? Please set me up with a better guy or girl.”

“You want us to set you up with a girl, but you don’t even want to kiss girls.” Heechul stated which was nothing but the truth. Jessica had two ex girlfriends in which she never even kissed. She loved looking at girls, really loved it. To her, they seem like eye candies that should never be touched like the forbidden apple Eve once consumed. “Are you even sure you’re bi?”

“Well... that’s why I want to date a girl again to make sure I’m gay or bi or whatever. You know?” Jessica grunted once more and crossed on top of the table; she then placed her forehead on it. “This is ridiculous!” She moved her head sideways, having a better view of Heechul who sat next to her, “You guys are lucky.”

“Jessica, we’re here cramming for our papers and you’re saying we are lucky when you’re the one doing nothing?” Taeyang said as he eyed question number two, leaving him eight more questions to go after he wrongly answers this one.

“Why don’t you just date guys, Jessica? You’re really hot.” Heechul said.

Jessica shook her head, “I don’t want to. I mean, it’s not like I’m not attracted to them. I just want to make sure if I’m gay or not. I’m really attracted to girls but the idea of kissing and you know what still disgusts me.”

“You’re weird.” Taeyang stated.

Jessica rolled her eyes, “At least I’m not dumb.”

“At least I can get a girl.” Mumbled Taeyang underneath his breath.

Jessica sat up, glaring at Taeyang. “You don’t understand. Plus, you go the other way. What girl in the right mind would date a gay guy like you? You should seriously stop stealing your sister’s skinny jeans by the way.”

“Psssh! You’re one to talk about gender. You can't even get a girl.”

“You’re stupid! Do you really think I can just go up to a girl and be like, ‘hey… you kinda look gay. You wanna date me?’ I can’t go girl hunting because I’m a girl!”

“A very hot girl.” A curvaceous girl with blonde hair walked in with her girlfriend.

“Hi Yuri! Hi Taeyeon!” They greeted.

Most of the girls in Jessica’s peer were blonde haired. Actually, it was every girl but her best friend, Taeyeon. After seeing how nice it looked on Jessica, Yuri couldn’t help but copy her, which of course, was a good decision. “We finally finished our English 132 class.”

“Good for you…” Jessica said lifelessly. She then looked at the couple from head to toe, “How can you be a happy couple?! And here I am being alone.”

The couple shrugged as they sat on the same table their peers were at.

“I’ll be forever alone.” Jessica whined, scrolling at her phone again.

“Well, date a guy then.” Taeyeon nonchalantly commented.

Jessica vehemently shook her head, “But that won’t answer my questions! I need some soul searching, you know? What the ?! I want to know if I’m really attracted to girls.”

Taeyeon rolled her eyes, but before she could say anything, Heechul beat her to it and said, “Then we should go to a gay bar.”

“No! I want a clean girl!” Jessica’s statement made everyone laugh. She didn’t intend for her words to should funny, but it did to her friends’ ears.

“You’re messed up. You think everyone that goes there is a dirty girl?”

Jessica rolled her eyes, “That’s not what I meant. I just want a decent girl. There’s a reason why I want you guys to set me up with girls. Idiots.”

“Which is?”

Jessica lifted her shoulders, “So you know we’ll click right away and you know they’re my type.”

Taeyang then mumbled, “Just date a guy.”

“No! I want a girl! If you want to date guys then that’s your call!” Jessica bellowed, which caused some people to look at her and some even shot her a glare. She didn’t care and glared back at them. It didn’t matter if it was her fault for yelling inside the library, but it was public domain. It was stupid of these people to think that a library would be completely quiet.

“We should go to the restaurant across the street and visit that midget. Blondie over here will get us thrown out of the library.” Yuri said as if she wasn’t blonde herself.

After gathering all their things, the group of friends headed towards the restaurant across their university. It functioned as a café and restaurant at the same time, which was also open twenty-four seven. The food there wasn’t cheap, but was some of the viands sold there were reasonable enough for college students.

Jessica looked around the spacious restaurant, eyeing each girl out as she was seated with her friends. It had always been something they’ve done whenever they were out in public – checking girls out. It was mostly because Jessica’s friends with horndogs like Taeyang, Heechul, and Yuri that she became a part of their group that preyed on innocent girls that walked by. Well, Taeyang was a special case. No one really knew his gender, but Jessica was certain that he was gay or at least biual.

“Look at that girl, three o’clock.” Heechul whispered as he leant forward, elbows on the table.

Taeyang cocked his head to the right, “Whose three o’clock?” he then looked to the left and then to the right, which was by the way, the wall.

Jessica grunted, “Stupid! Who would you be checkin’ out to our three o’clock?! The wall?!” Jessica hissed her words of frustration as she was seated next to Taeyang. Heechul and the couple were in front of them.

“Oh right!” Taeyang flashed his eye-smile and then looked to Heechul’s three o’clock. He didn’t have a better view so he somewhat stood up, moving his head around until Jessica pulled him down.

“Can you not be more obvious?” Jessica asked.

Taeyeon rolled her eyes, “You guys are a bunch of erts.” She eyed each one of them and finally, landed her gaze on Jessica. “Why do you check out girls anyway? Just go for a guy. At least you’ve kissed guys.”

“That doesn’t prove I’m not bi or gay or whatever.”

Yuri then added, “But not wanting to kiss girls proves that you’re not really attracted to them.”

Jessica shrugged, “That’s also not true. I like looking at them so I know there’s ual attraction.”

Heechul snorted, “ual attraction? Baby Jung actually knows what that means?”

The blonde shot him a glare, “What do you take me for? Taeyang?”

“What the eff guys! You see me as someone really stupid.”

Jessica eyed him down, “‘what the eff?’ Really? Are you sure you’re straight or is SeungHyun really doing some stretching exercise in that a$s of yours?”

“Ew! Whatevs!” Taeyang said, scowling.

“You really are gay.” Yuri and Heechul commented.

Jessica agreed along the process by nodding.

A blonde, petite girl walked up to them, “Hi! I’m your server for the day. My name’s Sunny. What are we having today?”

“What the hell? Why do you have to greet us with your pesky, stupid, perky tone? That makes me want to puke.” Jessica said to the waitress, who also happened to be part of their peer.

“Jessica~” Sunny called lovingly, irritating every cell in Jessica’s body.

“Yah!”

“Dude, seriously, you guys are loud. You better keep it down.” Sunny said; now on her regular tone.

Heechul then commented and said, “Whatever. We’re customers, too, you know?” He then looked over his shoulder to a group of irritating girls who were giggling like hyenas. “Could you tell those b!tches to shut up? They’re louder than us.”

Sunny looked at the group of girls Heechul referred to, “They’re not that bad. At least they’re not preying on other people in the restaurant like you guys.”

“Whatevs…”

Jessica shot Taeyang a glare, “Shut up! Whatevs your face!”

Sunny laughed, “Someone’s cranky. No ?”

Taeyeon, Heechul, Yuri, and Taeyang laughed along with Sunny as if it was the funniest thing in the world. And suddenly, Taeyang had the smartest, wittiest comeback he had though in his entire life. “No ?” He laughed louder, showing his eye-smile to everyone. He then slapped the table a couple of times and then continued, “Jessica still has her passport. No since birth!” which garnered a lot more laughter from their friends.

Jessica fisted her hand and hit Taeyang really hard on his biceps. “Ouch!” Jessica cried, hurting her wrist in the process. She knew that Taeyang worked out but she never knew he was that muscular. Her stupid act was ridiculed by her friends, causing her to glare at each one. Jessica sighed and the only way for this to end was for her to speak up and shoo Sunny away, temporarily of course. “Sunny, just get me the usual” which caused the others to finally order, too.

They started talking about their day while at the same time, Heechul and Taeyang started on their school works again. They sometimes eyed Jessica for help but the blonde pretended to not notice; she was still upset since they made fun of her.

Jessica finally gave in and helped the poor Taeyang who was stuck on his research paper on Immigration: Does One Have to Learn the National Language to Be a Citizen? Taeyang pushed his laptop towards Jessica. The blonde couldn’t help but sigh. The grammar and the content simply spelled sh!t. She really sometimes wondered how Taeyang managed to stay in school. Well, there were a lot of options since he was gay after all; at least in her opinion he was. Maybe flirting with some professors helped this dimwit out.

Trying to concentrate on Taeyang’s research paper, Jessica couldn’t help but be distracted by those annoying sound those b!tches in the other table were making.

“Why won’t those stupid girls shut up?!” Heechul looked up from his book, looking over his shoulder to have a better view of the girls. “Urgh! B!tches.” He said loud enough for most of the people to hear. He didn’t really care. He liked his opinion to be known, it was a great way to make people shut up just like how Jessica used her glare.

“Eew! Yuck!”

Jessica looked past her friends and saw the group of girls looking at a dirty looking old man, which Jessica concluded was a hobo. He had facial hair grown white and his skin looked really dirty, in his hands were plastic bags that Jessica guessed were his only possessions. Jessica watched with her friends as an employee apologized to the customers and escorted the man out. How could the world be this ed up? The employee was apologizing to the girls who were rude to the man?

She then skimmed the room just to witness mixed emotions from the people around her- some were very empathetic while others were just as bad as the girls, whom viewed the man as if he was a walking disease. One girl particularly caught her attention. It may have been the ert in her but that girl really looked attractive. She was hearing short shorts, a thin  white tank top, and a  white sweater; her jet black hair was tied up in a pony tail. LIFE GUARD and a hotel’s name were printed at the back of her outfit.

Really hot, Jessica thought to herself. She would share the girl to her friends’ eyes but if she did, these morons might end up just gawking at her and not finish their school work. Though it was too late when Heechul commented and said, “You’re looking at her for too long. Is she in your mind now?”

“ you. I’m not like you guys.” Jessica said without taking her eyes off at the girl who was now by the counter, trying to order something. But what was the paper bag in her hands for? It was from the restaurant.

“She’s really hot. Look at those legs!” Yuri commented.

“No! Look at that !” The other byuntae chimed in, which caused Jessica to roll her eyes. The midget always called them erts but when it came to viewing, Taeyeon’s eyes were the sharpest.

“She’s hot. I like her smile best. It’s up to par with mine.”

Jessica looked at Taeyang, “Who the looks at smiles nowadays? And what guy would compare his smile to a girl? Her smile is a mile better than yours. Your smile is like sh!t.”

“You’re a b!tch. You should change your attitude.” Taeyang pouted, scowling at the same time.

“And you’re gay. You don’t see me complaining about it.”

“Whatevs! Just help me with my paper.”

Jessica then averted her eyes towards Taeyang’s laptop again. Looking at what he wrote made Jessica want to shoot herself. In Taeyang’s opinion, an alien didn’t need to learn a Nation’s language in order to be a citizen. Wasn’t that stupid of him? Well, whatever. Jessica was just fixing what was written there and was trying her best to make sense out of the sh!t that was written there.

Moments later, Jessica heard the same group of girls talk again. She swears beneath her breath. She would seriously buy a duct tape just to shut those annoying mouths of theirs up. She shouldn’t mind shoving Heechul’s socks in their mouths either. Well, as long as it shuts them up, Jessica wouldn’t mind doing anything.

Finally, Sunny distracted Jessica from being too annoyed to the point of really executing her plan to shut those annoying girls up. Sunny placed their food on the table accordingly and then commented in a low tone, “You were right. Those girls were b!tches.”

Heechul looked back and shot the girls a glare and then replied, “I just have a good b!tchdar.”

Sunny being an employee, she couldn’t really show how much she agreed even though she wanted to. She could get fired for it. “But I’m glad that there was a customer nice enough to buy that guy food.”

Yuri made a “Huh?” sound.

Taeyeon and the rest of the group seemed interested in the conversation and listened. Sunny jerked her head, pointing at the front which was a glass wall; providing them the privilege of seeing the outside. “That pretty girl asked me to get her the heaviest meal we have. The girl paid thirty-five bucks for it and gave the food to the hobo.”

The gang looked at the girl, who was now sitting on the same table as the hobo at the outdoor lounge. They were chatting and the girl was simply watching and conversing with the hobo. To everyone’s eyes, the girl became even more attractive. She was not only beautiful, but she also had a very kind, giving heart.

“Wow…” was the word that escaped Jessica’s lips.

That reaction was something new from Jessica. Usually, the girl would prey on girls and comment about how hot they looked. ‘Wow’ was something very limited and new to her friends.

Sunny placed her hand on Jessica’s shoulder, “Want me to ask for her number?”

Jessica looked at Sunny; her eyes were cold. “Do I look like I’m not capable of doing that?”

Taeyang nodded, “Yes. You actually do.”

Jessica learned her lesson from earlier so she decided to elbow the guy instead, causing the dude to grunt in pain. Jessica shook her head, “She looks straight. I really can’t go there and say, ‘Hi. You look really hot and you and I would look good together. Want to be with someone with sh!t vocab like me?’”

“Well, fine. She does really seem straight. I heard the guy she was talking to on the phone so yeah. I’m guessing it was her boyfriend.”

Jessica rolled her eyes, “Exactly. I don’t go for straight girls anyway. I hear they’re trouble. Not just that, she’s a straight girl with a boyfriend. So,” Jessica then took another peek of the girl and then faced Sunny, “No go.”

Taeyeon then joined in, “Maybe you just need to go to a gay bar and hook with some girl up? I mean, you know you can’t really ask girls if they were gay, bi or not. Maybe you should try the gay bar or gay club.”

“Yeah! Come on. Heechul and the rest of us are going.” Taeyang said, playfully nudging Jessica with his elbow.

“F@g. You just want to go and you want to make an excuse to drag us along.”

“But you want to girl hunt!” Taeyang argued.

“Come on, Jessica. Tomorrow’s the start of Spring break so clubbing is a must!” Yuri tried to convince Jessica.

“Yup. I need another girlfriend, too.”

Jessica raised her brow at Heechul, “And you go to a gay bar for that?”

Heechul shrugged, “There are bi girls anyway.”

“Sunny!” Sunny looked back at her co-worker and then hand gestured telling him to wait. She looked back at her friends, “Tomorrow, okay? We’ll be going. I’ll give you the details later.”

“What? We’re really doing this sh!t?” Jessica said as she took a bite of her tuscani pasta.

“Of course! So don’t be a party pooper, okay?” Sunny said, tapping Jessica’s shoulder before leaving. “I’ll text you guys later.”

Jessica eyed her friends who were eating their respective dishes. “So we’re really going to that gay bar or gay club or whatever.”

“Yes!”

Jessica sighed, “Your opinion doesn’t matter here, Taeyang. You’d go regardless since you’re a regular there.”

“B!tch.”

“F@g.”

“Slut.”

“Drop it you two!” Taeyeon looked at Jessica and then Taeyang. “You guys are being immature.”

“She started it!”

“What do you mean me?! You were the one who made a comment about that stupid passport sh!t!”

Taeyeon sighed, “Just shut up.”

Ignoring Taeyeon’s pleads, Taeyang made another comment, “For a smart girl like you, you have sh!tty words come out of your mouth all the time.”

“For a guy as buffed as you, you don’t just have sh!t come out of your .”

“You two, drop it!”

Taeyang stuck his tongue out, “Merong!”

“Merong your face!”

“Finish my homework.”

“Fine, but you’ll have to pay for my entrance fee tomorrow.” She said as she started working on Taeyang’s paper.

“What?!” Taeyang bellowed.

Jessica nodded, “You also have to pay for everyone, okay?” She really knew how to take advantage of her smarts.

“Alright!” Heechul said. “I won’t have to pay for it!”

Taeyeon laughed and Yuri spoke to her lover, “We can use that money to have a date or something.”

Jessica wrapped an arm around Taeyang’s shoulder, pulling him closer. “You’ll get a B plus in this class. I’ll make sure of it. But you have to pay for everyone, okay?” Feeling that he really needed the grade, Taeyang agreed. “Hey! It’s the highest grade you’ll ever get in your entire life. Your professor would even be surprised.”

“Witch.”

Jessica snorted a laugh, “Then next time, don’t be dragging me to a gay bar. It’ll just cause you money.”

“I’ll call my mom to send me more money.”

Yuri smiled, “It’s not like you guys aren’t rich.”

Taeyang shot her a glare, “We’re not rich! We’re middle class.”

“Sure.” Taeyeon said.

“Jessica’s the rich kid here! She’s should be the one to treat us!”

“Please. I’m not rich.”

Taeyang looked at Jessica, “Your dad’s a businessman and your mom’s a vice president of this international company. Tell me that you’re not rich.”

“I’m not rich. My parents are.”

“Same thing.” Heechul said.

“Whatever. I’m still not paying for it. I’m already helping you enough by making you pass this semester.” Jessica typed hurriedly, trying her best to at least not to ace the paper. If she aced it, then it would be more of a wonder to Taeyang’s professor and he might get in trouble for cheating.

Taeyeon looked at Heechul’s book that was laid on the edge of the table as he was still eating. “I think I can help you with that subject. Yuri and I still had the same class last semester.”

“Oh? Thanks! I’ve been really confused about how he wanted us to write this paper.” Heechul ransacked his knapsack that was laid on the floor and handed Taeyeon a crumpled packet. “Oh! We had the same thing last semester. Yuri and I could help you.”

“Really?!”

Taeyeon and Yuri nodded, and the blonde spoke, “But we’ll have to go to our dorm. We still have our notes there.”

“Okay, let’s go!” Heechul took one last bite of his food and grabbed his bag. He hurriedly gathered all his things and shoved it in his knapsack. “Hurry!” He told the couple.

“We’ll see you tomorrow.” The trio said.

“Bye.” Jessica mumbled as she was still eyeing the paper, trying her best to proof read what she wrote, scrapping all of Taeyang’s junk but also having similar ideas.

“Uhmm.. Jessica…”

Taeyang was the only one left with Jessica and the blonde knew this gay guy could be really annoying. “What!? Don’t bother me.”

“Okay...” Taeyang mumbled, and decided to just eat his chocolate cake.

After a couple of minutes, Jessica was somewhat contented with what she wrote on Taeyang’s paper. It would surely get him a decent grade. “Let’s go.” She said as she pushed the laptop towards Taeyang.

“Done?”

“No sh!t.” Jessica rolled her eyes. “Are you really stupid or do you just pretend to be stupid?” Realizing the stupidity in her own question, she spoke again. “Never mind. Don’t answer that.” She knew her friend was stupid, so why waste her time hoping he wasn’t?

Jessica eyed the table and saw no money laid there by the trio. Taeyang pulled out his wallet, but Jessica wouldn’t let her friend pay. “I’ll pay for it.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. Just make sure to pay tomorrow. I won’t be this nice.”

Taeyang laughed, “I’ll pay for your drink tomorrow, too.”

Jessica shook her head, “Drinks would be on those retards that walked out on us without paying.”

Jessica and Taeyang walked towards the counter where Sunny was and paid for everything. The duo walked out and bid each other goodbye since they parked their cars in different garages of the school. Jessica saw the hobo standing by the tree on a sidewalk as she stood near the crosswalk. He was carrying a bottled drink in his other hand, drinking it. It must had been from that girl earlier, Jessica figured. The light turned green, and she started walking.
