Of Angels and y Devils [part 1] (Kyuhyun/OC) [request by itssasa]

One-shot Collection [hiatus]

When Cho Kyuhyun opened his eyes a tiny crack, he hadn’t expected to see an angel walk right into the classroom. Sure he saw the teacher, a balding, cranky old fart whose sole reason for not kicking him out of class all the time for his snarky remarks was because he was, according to Ryeowook, “filthy rich” and because the old coot up to his father who was superintendent of the school. Not that Kyuhyun liked to make that fact known to public.

He opened his eyes a bit more and realized that he was not hallucinating and an angel hadn’t somehow descended down right into their classroom. She was a rather tall girl who was just about shorter than he was. But it wasn’t her height or her long, pin straight jet black hair or even her perfectly oval face. No, what caught his attention were those startlingly translucent gray eyes that seemed to peer straight into his soul. Eyes like hers were very rarely found, if not ever at all in South Korea and as far Kyuhyun could recall, no girl had ever had such an impression on him in his life.

Kyuhyun tipped his chair back and looked over at Sungmin who was busy playing on his DS before class was supposed to start. Resisting the urge to tease his friend about how bad he was doing, Kyuhyun asked, “Yah, Ming. Who’s the hot chick?” Sungmin looked up and did a double take, his lips forming an O-shaped silent “Whoa”.

“You ever seen her in school before?”

“No way. She would’ve been found and sought out years before.”

“Alright. So definitely a transfer student.”

“A model-status transfer student.”

Kyuhyun observed her once more before shrugging it off. Meh, just another pretty face, he thought to himself. Right when he was about to fall back asleep, he heard the obnoxious teacher say, “Hwang Ara-ssi, you can make yourself comfortable right next to the drooling slacker Kyuhyun that sits in the corner. Would do him good to learn some respect for his elders.”

Kyuhyun pretended to be asleep, but in reality, he closed his eyes to the barest slit just to watch her as she approached the seat next to his. He couldn’t help but poke his tongue out a bit to slide it over his lips. Nice legs…

Despite his obvious attention honed in on her, Hwang Ara acted as if he didn’t exist, which Kyuhyun found incredibly interesting and intriguing. Most girls fell over themselves trying to talk to him, and Kyuhyun usually amused himself by counting how many times a girl stuttered trying to ask him a question in hopes of holding his attention. But Hwang Ara simply sat in her seat, opened the textbooks that the teacher had provided for her and started flipping through the pages, paying Kyuhyun as much notice as one would a leaf lying crumpled in the grass, even though the teacher had pointed him out to her.

Her hair fell just in the right places by her shoulder and down her chest as she bent over slightly, eyes knitted in concentration as her perfectly shaped face formed a serious, studious expression. Her appearance had garnered the interest of many of the male student population in the classroom, some already checking her out and wondering what sorts of methods they should use to score a date with her. Some of the girls stared at her with curiosity while other girls sized her up and down, wondering how she stood in a fight.

Hm… Kyuhyun thought to himself. Well that’s never happened before. Maybe she hasn’t quite noticed me yet. Doesn’t usually take this long. Hm. Might as well introduce myself since nothing’s really happened yet.

When Ara paused from her reading to take in her surroundings, Kyuhyun seized the window of opportunity to say, “Hey there,” and give her (what he thought was) his coolest gaze.

Ara ly slightly to face him, raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything. Kyuhyun smirked and continued, “So you’re the new girl huh? Heaven didn’t tell me they were sending anybody down to earth today.” Her expression seemed very strange to Kyuhyun, who was used to girls falling all around him by the second sentence he spoke to them. Struggling ever so slightly to keep his cool, he glanced at her again and said, “Your eyes are uniquely pretty…they remind of me of mist that rises from waterfalls. And has anybody told you that your skin is the type guys would love to run their fingers up and down on?”

Still, she said nothing but now Kyuhyun could see swallowing and her head turning away from him. Great, he thought to himself. I’ve got her hooked now.

“So what do you think of the school, Ms. Hwang Ara?” he asked her casually. Suddenly, she turned to face him and, with a serious and slightly annoyed expression, spoke for the first time: “Well, Kyuhyun-ssi, I was actually greatly enjoying my time at this academy, right until some very irritating noise kept interrupting my studies, which I realized was the voice of an immature prat trying but failing to flirt with me. Now if you excuse me, I’d like to get back to my reading.”

With that, Ara turned back around and started reading from the textbook, leaving a slack-jawed Kyuhyun slumped in his seat and staring dumbly at her. Never, never, never ever NEVER in the existence of all of Kyuhyun’s sixteen years had any girl ever spoken to him like that. Sure, he had pissed some girls here and there with his constant flirting. Kyuhyun was a player and he knew it. But no girl had ever rejected him on the first meeting in such a manner before.

Sungmin had witnessed the whole scene and with wide eyes, did the best he could to stifle his laughter. Kyuhyun could hear him and Ryeowook snickering together and their loud whispers of “Kyu just got owned” from where he was sitting. When the teacher started class and introduced Ara to the class, Kyuhyun tried his best not to think too much about her. He tried his absolute hardest not to smash his desk in fury when a slew of guys approached her during break and she smiled sweetly and answered all their questions, all while not sparing Kyuhyun even a single glance.

She had gotten under his skin and she knew it. Just seeing the lewd looks some douche-bags gave her pissed him off so much…wait, what? Kyuhyun was getting all worked up over one girl? When did this happen? But he had to admit…as much as she irritated him, he was drawn to her and intrigued by her all the more.

“Hey Kyu,” a girlish voice purred. Kyuhyun looked up and saw Sunhee…wait, no, was it Seoha? Ah, no, no it was Sohee, Kyuhyun remembered.  The petite girl with the small eyes, okay-ish chest and great who gave me a at Heechul’s party…ugh she disgusts me.”Hey baby,” he replied with equal seductiveness, taking great notice of how she had perched herself on his desk in such a manner that her school skirt was hiked up quite high, revealing ample of her thighs.

“Remember last weekend?” she asked, inching closer and closer to him. “Why don’t we try and replay some of it during break…let’s say...by the bathrooms?”

“Ugh, no…babe, I’ve got a place of my own. There, I’ll drive you crazy…”

Sohee giggled and Kyuhyun smiled back at her, efficiently hiding his annoyance. Out of the corner of his eyes, he caught sight of someone staring at him and to his surprise and delight, it was Hwang Ara. Despite the obvious look of disgust on her face, Kyuhyun was quite happy she was finally paying some attention, so he only gave her a cocky wink. She sighed heavily through her nose and turned her back towards him and made no effort to glance back at him through the rest of the afternoon.

Kyuhyun was having a pretty decent morning. At first he had planned to arrive at school early to get some history notes from Ryeowook-hyung and later ended up hooking up with the hot senior girl everyone was talking about, Sukyung.

“Mmm, Kyu…gimme more…” Sukyung murmured, smirking and showing her ample chest as she teasingly ed part of her school shirt.

“Well somebody’s a bit greedy this morning,” Kyuhyun chuckled as he shifted a bit to make her a bit more comfortable. She was sitting neatly on his lap and they were in lounging together in an isolated corner of the school.

Or it used to be isolated corner until Kyuhyun heard footsteps approaching where they were. Unintentionally shoving Sukyung off a little harder than anticipated, he pecked her on the cheek and said, “Go catch up with your friends, sweetheart. I’ll talk to you later.” Sukyung pouted but obediently left.

Heart pounding, Kyuhyun hid behind a pillar and cautiously peaked his head out to see who it was. When he saw who it was, he breathed a sigh of relief yet his heart sped up even more. Hwang Ara, for whatever reason she was here for, was walking right towards where Kyuhyun was. As he quickly drew out a plan to approach her again, he couldn’t help but stop to marvel at how graceful her steps were as well as just how perfect she was in general.

Snap out of it, Kyuhyun told himself. It’s showtime. Grinning to himself, Kyuhyun took long, purposefully hurried strides out of his hiding place, as if he were in a hurry. Ara’s attention was absorbed in the papers she was reading, most likely school transcript forms and whatnot. At the moment they were passing each other, Kyuhyun “accidentally” bumped into her in such a manner that caused her to drop her folders and her papers which cluttered on the floor.

“Oh, God, I’m sorry- didn’t see you there, here, let me help you with those…” Kyuhyun bent down to help retrieve her fallen things. Success! He cheered silently in his mind, waiting eagerly for her reaction. Usually at this point, girls would be all over themselves, trying to tell him that it was fine and at the same time trying to be as attractive as possible.

However, Ara simply stood there and when Kyuhyun looked up, she was glaring at him. He swallowed but still kept up his façade as he smiled and said, “Oh! Hwang Ara-ssi, it’s you- you still look lovely as ever this morning.”

Ara stalked over, snatched the papers right from his hand and growled, “You stupid jerk, you did that on purpose! Those were extremely important papers and now they’re contaminated by both the floor and by you!” Indignant (and wondering how the hell she figured it out), Kyuhyun shot up and nearly shouted, “Well excuse me for trying to help you! Goddamn, you know you could afford to act a little more your gender.”

Her face started to turn red and Kyuhyun wanted to kick himself. Why the hell did he have to say that? Now she looked really pissed.

Ara took a deep breath and stepped a little closer, surprising Kyuhyun. “Alright then…thank you very much, Cho Kyuhyun-ssi…I’m sorry for not being feminine enough…” She was even closer now, so that he could feel the small wisps of her breath brush by his collarbone and he swore he saw her bat her eyes a bit.  He’d been this close, even closer with lots of girls but never had they made his heart beat so hard.

Totally thrown off guard, Kyuhyun stammered stupidly, “A-Ah, it’s n-no problem…”

He should have seen it coming. Then again, it was likely that his experience with girls had never put him in the problem of facing physical pain that severe.

A second later, Kyuhyun was on the floor clutching his pelvic area, groaning and the shock and pain still resounding so much that he could barely spare Ara a scathing glare. The girl scoffed, “Stay away from me you ” and walked off, leaving a paling Kyuhyun sprawled on the tiled floor.

He was limping when he finally reached the classroom just as the bell rang. His pelvic area was still sore and he grimaced in pain when he sat down in his seat. Sungmin stared at him, mouthing, “You okay?” but Kyuhyun ignored him.

He lulled through the rest of the morning, coming out of his daze only when that teacher made him stand up and recite some crappy poem he’d already read in middle school which they were analyzing for whatever reason only God knew. Sighing loudly through his nose, Kyuhyun got up, recited it and then plopped back down in his seat, preparing to go back to sleep again.

Just then, Hwang Ara said out loud in a voice dripping with sarcasm to the whole class, “While I am fully in awe of Cho Kyuhyun-ssi’s obviously displayed brilliance, I did notice that he recited some of the lines wrong. I’m sure he did it on purpose- am I right?”

The whole class remained dead silent and Kyuhyun shot straight up, wide awake and with a fiery look of annoyance written all over his face. Ara only gave him a serenely sweet smile (which Kyuhyun could not keep his eyes off of). Clenching and unclenching his fists, Kyuhyun cleared his throat and simmered down his temper before responding as coolly as he could, “Thank you so much for pointing that out to me, Ara-ssi, although you really can say the same for yourself, such as that wonderful passage you read aloud yesterday in such a strange accent- what sort of Korean was that?”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Kyuhyun felt instant regret as he watched her face redden again and her expression almost verge on being…upset? He would have liked to immediately go over to her side and comfort her, but there was an audience and after a few seconds, Ara had taken a deep breath and just sat back down. Class continued on normally as if nothing had ever happened.

A week had passed by and neither Kyuhyun nor Ara had tried speaking to each other once since the spat they had. Nevertheless, Kyuhyun felt a growing attraction to her, but he tried his best to shrug it off and continued his habits, flitting from girl to girl and breaking hearts.

During this time, whenever Kyuhyun was in art class painting his picture, every time he took it out, he noticed little things had changed about it. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but it was as if someone had been tampering with the picture- not in a damaging way, just tiny adjustments that were not normally detectable by the average person.

Still, Kyuhyun was suspicious and always asked the teacher if she had seen anybody touch or take out his picture and she always swore up and down that she had never seen anyone move anything around in the classroom. Kyuhyun often shrugged it off and continued to paint the picture, sometimes actually grateful to whoever made the adjustments.

It was a Wednesday morning and Kyuhyun found himself at school early once again. Initially it was supposed to be a “meeting” with Jungah…no, Junghwa…? Aish I don’t even remember, Kyuhyun thought. Whatever the reason, he didn’t find her so now he was left with wandering listlessly around in the hallways, humming to himself.

When he passed the art room for the second time, Kyuhyun noticed that the light was on…which it hadn’t been before. Strange…I haven’t seen Seosang anywhere either. Kyuhyun tried to peak in through the window but all he could see was the shadowy figure of a person sitting by the farthest corner of the art room.

As quietly as possible, Kyuhyun twisted the door knob and opened the door, slipping in through the narrowest crack. A person with flowing jet-black hair and in the girl’s school uniform was perched on a stool and seemed to be oblivious to anything but whatever she was working on. Wait…there’s something familiar about that back.

Kyuhyun approached the person diligently working on the painting until he was standing right behind her. He cleared his throat and asked, “Excuse me…what are you doing here?” The girl let out a gasp and whirled around. She had spun around so fast, she fell off her stool and, desperate for a grip to keep her balance, she grabbed the thing closest to her- Kyuhyun. He yelped as they both tumbled to the ground.

The sound of the stool crashing to the floor was still ringing in his ears and he felt wetness on his sleeve and he guessed that paint must have been spilled as well. He then glanced at the girl he was accidentally pinning down to the ground- and his eyes bugged out.

Hwang Ara was staring right back up at him with eyes just as big as his were. Part of his brain wandered off and stopped to marvel at what a sight she made, hair splayed out across the floor and her body in a vulnerable position. The feeling of her legs in such close contact with his caused an elated sensation in his pants- until Kyuhyun told himself to snap out of it.

The painting had fallen to the floor as well and when Kyuhyun glanced at it, he realized it was his painting and that Ara had been the one making the adjustments the whole time.

They could have stayed there and stared at each other for a long time, but just then, they both heard the sound of booming footsteps approaching the art room. Without a second’s hesitation, Kyuhyun helped Ara up, grabbed her hand and bolted to the closet, dragging her with him.

They squeezed in together, staying as quiet as possible.

When at last there was total silence in the room once again, Kyuhyun peaked his head out and to his relief, no one was there. They both stepped out of the art room and it was then he realized he was still holding her hand. His and Ara’s eyes met for a second before they both shook their hands out the grasp, both their faces turning a visible shade of red.

Kyuhyun was the first to break the awkward silence. “A…Are you okay?”

“Yes I’m fine…oh! Your sleeve…it’s got paint all over it!” Sure enough, there was an orange smear staining Kyuhyun’s white uniform shirt sleeve. Kyuhyun was paying that no attention though- his mind was still amazed at the fact that this was the first time Ara had ever spoken to him with any sort of sympathetic emotion.

When Ara came over to lead him to the sink, Kyuhyun automatically took a sidestep away. Ara stared at him with confusion and asked, “What’s…What’s wrong?”

“Well considering last time we were this close, you ended up kneeing me in the balls so don’t blame me for being so cautious. And besides…you have a lot of stuff to explain. Why have you been fixing my painting for me? What are you doing here so early in the morning? What the hell do you have against…”

“Look…it…it was just habit and…it’s…it’s not like I wanted to or anything…wait…what?!...” Ara sounded extremely frustrated and suddenly, she went off in a rant in another language. When she was done, Kyuhyun was staring at her in awe.

“Uh…wha…did…did you just rant in fluent Japanese?”

Ara stared at the floor, using all her willpower not to look at him.

“Yeah…you really have some explaining to do.”

Kyuhyun listened intently as Ara hesitantly told her story while helping him wash off the paint stain from his sleeve. Hwang Ara was the daughter of a Korean businessman and a Japanese showgirl. Her uniquely translucent clear eyes were a memento from her mother’s side of the family- her grandmother had been a famous geisha known for her strange but beautiful eyes. They had been passed down through the generations and Ara inherited them.

Her father’s family had vehemently rejected the union her father proposed between him and her mother. Thus, for most of her life, Ara lived in Japan with her mother. Her father came to visit often though, so through him she learned to speak Korean.

“When I was younger, I was teased a lot,” she explained, her eyes now becoming misty. “I didn’t look quite Japanese and kids made fun of me for my eyes. It was the same whenever I visited South Korea. I spoke in a funny accent, and still do, and I was still teased for my eyes.” She looked at him and said, “You’re the first person who said they were beautiful, Kyuhyun-ssi.” Kyuhyun blushed, looked away and muttered, “It was nothing.” Ara went on.

When she got to the point of the story of why she moved here all of a sudden, Ara became somewhat sketchy with the details. “I…had some boy trouble in Japan. He wouldn’t stop bothering me…at the same time, a call came from my father, telling me that his family was willing to forgive him and my mother for having me under the condition that I moved to South Korea and trained to be the next head of the corporation. So I took the opportunity immediately and…here I am now.”

Kyuhyun took the whole story in and exhaled. “Well…now I get it…and…I’m…uh…I…I’m sorry for teasing you about your accent. I didn’t know you lived in Japan most of your life and…honestly you don’t look that Japanese either so I couldn’t tell.” Kyuhyun then stammered, “I mean, not that that’s a bad thing, no- uh, you, you’re fine the way you are.” Smooth, Kyuhyun he thought, cursing himself.

He turned to her again and for the first time, Ara smiled at him and said, “Thank you…truce?” She offered her hand to him. Kyuhyun grinned and shook her hand. “Truce.”

There was a moment of silence, but not quite as awkward as the previous ones before.

“So…what, do you like, hate guys now?” Kyuhyun asked.

“Well…no…not really…I suppose I’m just rather nervous around them.”

“Yeah, nervous is a good word,” Kyuhyun snorted. Then, he approached her and she gasped as he took her chin into his hand. “But don’t worry…because I will make you mine.”

Her expression nearly made him want to laugh. It went from shock, to embarrassment, to indignant. She pushed his hand away and, blushing, stuttered, “N-No way! I’m not that ready for…!”

Kyuhyun laughed and murmured in her ear, “Relax, I won’t pull anything on you. You intrigue me so much more now for me to even think about doing that. I’ll make sure you’ll come to me in your own time…because I’ve so got you…” He walked towards the door, then turned towards her and gave her a cocky wink. “See you in class, beautiful.”

Kyuhyun left a blushing and totally confused Ara standing alone in the art room.
