Chapter 08:

(SEUNG HYUN P.O.V.)

Waiting patiently for the man sitting across from me to be done with his cup of coffee I watched Sunmi and Jihoon share their slice of cake together. I hate cakes, well to be more precise I hate sweets. Sweets are like something wonderful and delightful but they fade and go away never lasting. Just like people I love in my life...Just then the man in front of me clears his throat bringing my attention and thoughts back to him.

"The name is Lee Seungri, I'm Mr. Kim second in command security guard." Seungri said as he took off his black sunglasses. He lifts up my fake resume and scans it briefly before putting it back down on the table.

"It says here that you were previously part of the police force." I look down from him and stare at my hands, playing my part of being a distant and polite Choi Seung Hyun. "Why did you quit the police force Seung Hyun?" Seungri asks as he picks up his cup of coffee again and took a sip.

"Being in the police force just was not enough for me." I answer with a lie automatically as Seungri nods his head in understanding.

"Well you will definitely love this job then." He said delightfully as he put back down his cup. "Anyways moving right along, your task is to be the bodyguard of Mr. Kim one and only daughter Kim Yoobin. She has recently come back from America and needs to be guarded from harm. Do you understand?" Seungri asks me as I answer with a clear yes. "The guarding part of this job means to watch Miss Yoobin from getting into mischievous. You are to watch her and report to Mr. Kim if anything unusual happens as well as to actually protect her if danger comes along." I nod my head as Seungri gives me a smile,"You are to start work tomorrow. Head to Mr. Kim’s headquarter and I'll meet you from there." With that we gave each other a formal handshake, as I watch him step out of the cafe I turn my attention back to Jihoon and Sunmi.

Jihoon happily took a big bite from his cake leaving chocolate cream on his nose. Watching Sunmi laughs she wipes Jihoon’s nose and I couldn’t help but chuckle. Just then I made eye contact with Sunmi as I nod my head and look away. Something about her makes my stomach flip and turn. Deciding to get up from my seat and sit with them I turn around to find Jihoon sitting by himself as he wipes his mouth with a napkin. Walking towards him I look around the cafe for Sunmi.

“Jihoon where did your Sunmi go?” I asks sitting at the seat where Sunmi sat moments before.

“Nuna went over there!” Jihoon says pointing towards the cashier counter. Turning towards where Jihoon was pointing at I found Sunmi chatting with someone. Examining him from afar he looks tall in his twenties and...I stood up abruptly and walk towards him and Sunmi without having a second to think about my actions.

“Seung Hyun?” Sunmi asks me with concern as she was now turned around to look at me. I was standing behind her staring at the mysterious man. “Are you done with your interview?” She asks as I look from him to her realizing what I done just now must had been…”What was I doing?” as I think to myself with a frown. “Seung Hyun?” Sunmi calls my name again.

“Nothing I was just...we should go home now.” I tried explaining but ended up making an excuse to turn around and leave awkwardly.

“I got to go now Taecyeon thanks for everything.” I heard Sunmi said to the mysterious man name Taecyeon. “For everything? What did he help her with? Why do I even care?” I shook my head confuse as Jihoon shakes my hand.

“Ajeossi are you okay?” He asks me.

“Yes Jihoon lets go home.” I said as I held Jihoon’s hand in mine.

The car ride home was completely silent without Jihoon voice to fill the quietness in the car. He was fast asleep right when Seung Hyun started the car. Seung Hyun took a quick glance at Sunmi who was staring out the passenger window.

“So who was that guy?” He asks trying to start a conversation but having a sense of urgency to know this man’s identity.

“Who?” Sunmi asks turning her attention to Seung Hyun. She watches him clear his throat as he turns his gaze back towards the road.

“The man you were talking to at the cashier counter.” He said as he took a right turn.

“Oh, that’s Ok Taecyeon the owner of the OK Cafe. He offered me a job there.” Sunmi spoke as she glances at the rear view mirror when Jihoon stir in the back.

“Did you take the offer?” Seung Hyun asks slowly without looking at Sunmi.

“Why do you ask?” Following that question the car grew silent as Seung Hyun switches lane on the road.

“Nothing...just thought that...Jihoon might miss you from having you around.” Seung Hyun took awkward pauses to answer as he takes a quick glance at Sunmi who gave a smile.

“I’m pretty sure he’s sick of seeing me everyday now.” Sunmi answers humoredly as Seung Hyun couldn’t help but give a smile as well. When he did Sunmi couldn’t help but be captivated by his smile.

Never had she seen him smile ever since their path had cross each other and that smile was pure and beautiful. She couldn’t help but have a sense of need to caress his face and she did. Ever so slowly her left hand went out to reach the right side of his face and caress it. Seung Hyun took his gaze off the road quickly and turn to look at Sunmi as his smile slowly fades away.

“You should smile more often it brings out the light inside you.” Sunmi simply states as Seung Hyun look back at the road averting her stare.

“You should wake up Jihoon we’re almost home.” He spoke as Sunmi took her hand back away from his cheek. Biting her lips she could not believe what she did just then.

“Oh yes, umm sorry about what happened just now.” Sunmi apologize as she ran her hand through her hair making wisps of her wavy hair to fall down to her shoulders. Seung Hyun could not help but look at her as she did so. Something about that view of her just made her look beautiful.

“Beautiful? What are you thinking Choi Seung Hyun? She’s nothing but a stranger. Do not think more about her and just focus on the road.”  Seung Hyun thought to himself and turns his attention to the road the rest of the ride home in silence.

Reaching back to their house Seung Hyun shuts off the engine and unbuckle his seat belt. “So when do you start work?” He asks turning to look at Sunmi so distantly shutting himself away from her.

“I start next week Monday at nine every day in the morning. I have work on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I thought the rest of the other days I can spend time with Jihoon.” Sunmi spoke unbuckling her seat belt as well, noticing his distant look in his eyes she bit her bottom lip slightly and stuff her hands underneath her lap.

“Okay, I can drive you to work every of those days before dropping Jihoon off at school.” Seung Hyun spoke and got out of the car to get Jihoon. As Sunmi follows suit she sighs from the awkward event that took place in the car. “Sunmi what are you doing? You were supposed to be on to him about him being an agent not this!”

“Ajeossi are we home?” Jihoon rubbing his eyes ask as Seung Hyun set him on the ground.

“Yes Jihoon, now come on once you get inside you should go wash up.” He spoke tenderly as Jihoon’s nods his head obediently. Unlocking the door to the house Jihoon heads towards the bathroom leaving Sunmi and Seung Hyun in the living room alone.

“Do you want anything to drink?” Seung Hyun asks politely.

“No thank you.” She answers back politely as well as silence follows suits between them.

“I’m going upstairs to change so once Jihoon is done can you tell him to do his math homework?” Seung Hyun asks Sunmi as holds onto the railings of the stairs.

“Oh yeah, I can do that.” Sunmi answers as Seung Hyun thank her and climb up the stairs. The rest of the day ended up being Sunmi and Jihoon together as Seung Hyun never came back down stairs.

“Jihoon have you ever seen Seung Hyun happy?” Sunmi asks curiously at night as they both ate ice cream in the kitchen. Jihoon scrunch his face as he thought about the question seriously.

“Ajeossi is happy but I think he was MOST happy when appa and he worked together.” Jihoon spoke taking a spoonful of strawberry ice cream in his mouth. Considering his answer Sunmi nod hers head and smiles.

“Is it yummy?” Sunmi asks she took a spoonful in as well as Jihoon nods his head smiling happily. “Did Seung Hyun ever fall in love?”

“In love?” Jihoon asks back innocently. Sunmi her spoon and put it on her lips as she struggles to ask Jihoon about Seung Hyun’s personal life.

“Mmmm like being with a girl. Have you ever seen him with a girl before?” Again Jihoon consider the question first before replying.

“Mmmm with my mom.” He simply answers as Sunmi sighs getting no real information from him.

“Let’s focus on our ice cream before it melts and brush our teeth after hmmm?” Sunmi asks the little guy who nods his head. After cleaning up the kitchen and getting Jihoon to bed Sunmi bid him goodnight before heading towards her own room for bed.

Turning the corner down the hall to her room she found Seung Hyun standing against the doorway.

“Oh Seung Hyun what brings you here?” Sunmi asks as she reaches him. He just stares straight into her eyes as he had the look of confusion and yearning mix together. “Do you want to talk inside?” Sunmi asks. As her hand touches the door knob Seung Hyun pushes her gently against the wall and kisses her on lips with a sense of passion sending electricity through Sunmi’s body. She couldn’t help but kiss him back urgently as well. When they finally broke apart Seung Hyun remained close to Sunmi.

“That was a one time thing.” Seung Hyun said as he tries to catch his breath before finishing his sentence. Stepping back from Sunmi he turns around and walks down the other end of the hall leaving Sunmi to look after him. Confusion builds up in her mind and she touches her lips gently from the contact they just had.
