The Wedding Refugee
Maybe...just Maybe (KyuSun One-shot and drabble collection)Impatient, as I stood on my post (fixated for almost two hours now), I repeatedly tapped the counter with my hand as I waited for the ones that I didn’t really expect to arrive; I knew that not a lot customers would be coming today.
“Stop that, Kyuhyun!” I rolled my eyes at the scolding which came from the kitchen.
That fellow was Heechul, a good friend of mine (who happened to be my stingy boss as well). He called me first thing in the morning to go help them here at the café. Some friend he was.
‘It is a holiday.’ He said. ‘A lot of people would come because it is a holiday!’
But not for a holiday during the nearing winter season, they’re not. People are too lazy and so they’ll prefer to stay inside the house and make coffee on their own instead. Plus, it is drizzling now. It might even start snowing soon. Who would want to go out?
Consequently, I had to cancel the blind date (which I was really looking forward to) that Seohyun set up for me. Great.
Okay. Agreeing to a blind date may seem desperate, but I’m just being really open to every chance there is. Plus, Seohyun kept saying that Yi Xiao is very pretty and nice and that she could be perfect for me. I trust my sister’s instincts when it comes to these things. I mean, her love life is just perfect. She and her husband, Yonghwa are very much in love. (And yes. I got to see my baby sister get married before I did.)
So yeah. I guess, what I’m saying is that: I’m through with all the tricks and flings and I really want to get a bit serious with romantic relationships. Well, I’m not getting any younger and naturally, settling down in marriage should come pretty soon. There will come a time that I‘ll be pausing in my tracks to realize, that it’s the only thing missing in my life. Someday, it will be all that I’ll ever want. So now, I’d like to start looking for that right woman and make a family with her as soon as time may call for it.
And the right woman should very much tolerate Starcraft.
Who am I kidding? I’m such a kid.
Heechul yelled at me one more time to get to people’s orders which he claims were coming (even though they’re totally not) and to quit palming the wooden surface.
Hah. Never stopped me before.
Suddenly, the chimes which hung by the café door rung. There was a single addition to today’s set of customers. What little number there was.
Oh. And…what little customer, this is.
But really, that is not even the first thing that you will notice about her (or at least not the only remarkable first).
The strawberry-blonde-haired girl was wearing a floor-length gown and was carrying her matching pair of white stilettos in her right hand. She looks a bit exhausted as she paces the café, barefoot—totally indifferent of the looks everybody inside threw at her.
Well, perhaps she’s a bridesmaid for a wedding or something. It was still too early for a homecoming ball or any other gown-ish party at that.
Soon, she was at the counter, right across me and I was seconds late from realizing that she is already placing an order as I was too busy staring at her.
“Coffee Frap. No whipped cream, please.”
What a weird choice considering the weather.
And she seemed a bit soaked too. Her blonde hair was short and so it had failed in concealing her slightly shaking shoulders. However, I had no right to contest to a customer’s order.
I just noted to myself her drink request and left the counter to make it for her,
“Actually, no. Cancel that, please.” There you go…I mentally nodded to her change of mind.
The girl had her elbows raised on the countertop; her chin rested on her twined hands when I turned to face her again. She had a very pretty side profile too, I noticed, as I watch her while she thought for a second of what to have.
When she finally turned to me, she ended up giving me a cute, small pout. “I don’t know what I want.” She shrugged, leaning back against the chair, crossing her arms next. “I’d take anything you’d bring me…” she tentatively leaned towards me to see what my name plate read. “…Kyuhyun.”

In a few minutes, I came back with a cup of caramel macchiato.
“This shall make you a bit warmer. And…this might help, too.” I shrugged, putting my jacket on the countertop and slightly pushing it towards her. “If you feel like you need it, anyway. It’s pretty cold today.”
“Thanks.” She beam
