“Another perfect score! We make the best team when it comes to project, don’t ya think Soojin-ah?” JB happily boasted.

I laughed and softly knocked him on the head.
“Ya, you were asleep most of the time the project was being put together!”
“Aish, that hurt! “ He said, rubbing his forehead.

“I hardly had any rest that whole week, so of course I was tired.”

“Ahh, you were with Jiyeon, weren’t you?” I asked.

Yes, JB and Jiyeon are dating.
He said that he took my advice in finding a girlfriend, but did it have to be her?

She hates me because of how close JB and I are.
And, from what I’ve heard, they have a bad past.
Yea, they’ve dated prior to now.
Jiyeon was his first love, and I guess he hasn’t gotten over her.
I just hope she doesn’t hurt him again.

But, I’ll set all my feelings about her aside.
Being a best friend is hard.
Especially to someone as popular as JB.
Not many girls like me because of that…
Hence why I don’t have any female friends, haha.

“A..a..and?! So what if I was?!” He quickly tried to defend himself, blushing.

“Come on JB, you don’t to be embarrassed to tell me that you were with your girlfriend.” I said, laughing.

“I’m not embarrassed! It’s just hot in here.” He said, waving his hand for air.

“Okayy, whatever you say.” I rolled my eyes, and turned backed to my desk.


After class, I started to gather my things when I hear Jiyeon call JB’s name.
She ran over to his desk and asked him about going to the mall with her.

“Hey Soojin, wanna come with us? It’d be fun!” She asked.

“Um… I’ll pass. I wouldn’t want to be the third wheel.” I said.

“Oh! You won’t be a third wheel. Soomi and Sohyeon are coming along!” She said, with a big smile.

Oh great… another reason for me not to go

“Come on Soojin-ah~” JB said.
“You can some new friends! Female ones!”

Friends? Pshh

“Uhm, okay, I guess.” I said.

And with that, we were on our way to “have fun.”

Oh. My. God.
We literally went to every store there was in the building.

Now we were headed to the food court.

“What do you girls want?” JB asked.

The three girls told him what they wanted, then went to go find a table.

“And you, Soojin-ah? What do you want to eat?” He asked.

“I’ll go with you. I don’t think you’ll be able to carry everything.” I said.

“Soojin, you should take this chance to become friends with them.” He said.
“Besides, I’m a man. I’m stronger than you are.” He smiled.

I returned his smile, and said, “Just get me a churro and a coke.”

He nodded, then went off to place the orders.

I made my way to the table with the other girls.

“I’m doing this for JB.” I thought to myself.
Then, I put a smile and waved at the girls.

“Hey~” I said.

They turned their heads to face me, then looked away.

“Okay… so much for making friends..” I thought to myself.

Then, Jiyeon rose up from her seat, and walked towards me.
She started playing with my hair, grinning.

“You should back off, Soojin.” She said, in a cold tone.
“JB is mine.”

I chuckled.
“I knew it was too good to be true.” I said.

She looked at me confused.

“As to why you invited me out with you all.” I said.
“You just wanted to start some drama.”
“Well, JB is my best friend. It’s not like you can tell me to get out of life.”

Her expression changed from confident, to hate.
Then, she let out a faint chuckle.

“And you said we were sad?” She said.
“Who’s the one always following JB around?”

Oh my god. Is she really this naïve?
What the hell does she think she does?
And, I don’t follow him around.
It’s not my fault we have all of our classes together!

“You know what? I don’t have time for this.” I said and turned around.

“You think just because you have no parents, everyone will feel pity for you?” Jieyon snapped back.

Immediately, I stopped walking.
My heart fell to the floor.

I turned around, and calmly walked towards her.

*SMACK*

Jiyeon held her hand to her face, and looked at me, shocked.

“Don’t you ever refer to my parents like that again.” I said.
“I don’t need pity from anyone.”

“Soojin-ah!” I heard JB call my name.
He ran to Jiyeon, scanning her face.

“Are you alright?” He asked her.

She started crying, holding onto JB tightly.
He looked at me, with anger written all over his face.

“Soojin-ah! What the hell was that for?” He harshly yelled at me.
“I told you to make friends, not slap my girlfriend!”

I was shocked.
In all of the four years we’ve been friends,
JB has never raised his voice at me the way he just did.

“She brought up my parents, JB.” I said, with tears lining my eyes.

“I just wanted to get to know her better, JB.” Jiyeon said, sobbing.

“You’re lying, Jiyeon!” I yelled.
“She’s lying JB…” I softly said.

“Then what did she say?” he asked, trying to calm down.

I stepped back, away from JB and away from the girls.

“I shouldn’t have to explain myself to you.” I said, calmly.
“I thought you trusted me. I thought we were best friends.”

I let my tears fall, and found myself running out of the mall.
This is the second time in my life that I’ve felt this bad.
The same feeling I had when I lost my parents.
I never thought this feeling would come back to me, especially from my best friend.
