The Heart's Choosing

"Huh..." Someone said from behind us.

I jumped at the sudden voice, and immediately broke away from JB's arms.

"I should've known she was the reason."

I turned to the voice and saw Ji Yeon standing in the doorway, with her arms crossed and a smirk plastered on her face.

I rolled my eyes, while wiping away the last of my tears from my cheeks.

"What do you want Ji Yeon?" JB asked, slowly picking himself up.

She walked our way, keeping that eerie smile.

As she stopped in front of him, she let out a faint chuckle, then,

SMACK

I jumped, covering my mouth in reaction.

"What do I want?" She sarcastically asked.
"You broke up with me for HER!?" Her loud yell echoed the gymnasium.

"I seriously don't know what you liked about this loud mouth."  I said, pulling myself up, dusting my skirt off.
"I could never, ever, find something good abou--"

"Ji Yeon!"

I looked up and saw JB holding Ji Yeon's raised hand.

"Hmph." I sighed.
"Is that all you know how to do? Slap people?"

"Let go of me!" Ji Yeon said, trying to free her hand.
"This of a boyfriend stealer deserves what's coming to her!"

"Dammit, Ji Yeon! Stop it already!" JB yelled, surprising both Ji Yeon and myself.

He let go of her hand and took a deep breath.

"There are a number of reason why I broke up with you."

"JB!" She whined.

"I can't take it anymore, Ji Yeon! I can't take your recklessness, your jealousy; I can't take lying to myself anymore..."

He sighed, ruffling his hair.

"You never made me happy."

Oh .

"It didn't feel right. We didn't feel right." He said, softly.

"It doesn't matter if we don't feel right!" She said, stomping her feet.
"Mr. and Ms. Popular HAVE to be together!"

"Pfft!" I accidently let out.

! I didn't mean to laugh out loud!

They both looked over at me, Ji Yeon sending me death glares.

"I'm sorry... I didn't mean to do that out loud." I apologized.

"So you love… her...?" Ji Yeon asked, half-heartedly.

I looked to JB, who was rubbing the back of neck.

"I've always loved her." He finally said, making me blush like a mad man.

He looked over to me, making me quickly turn my head to avoid his eyes.

He chuckled, and then started again.

"I never realized that this love was more than the love of a friend. I was so blind to it, that I ended up hurting her..."

My heart started racing.

"I was ignorant with my heart, and I ended up hurting you too, Ji Yeon... I'm sorry..." He said.

"You hurt my reputation." She bluntly replied.
"I don't care if you love me or not, but you breaking up with me for her?"

I was taken aback with her response.
Is her popularity all she really cares about?

"Okay, that's it." I finally said, grabbing JB's hand.
"Im Jae Bum, let's go."

"We aren't finished talking!" Ji yeon yelled.

I turned to her and sighed.

"Yes, you are Ji Yeon. I'm not going to let you continue to make JB look anymore stupid than he already does."

"Hey!" He said.

I snapped my head to him.

"You see what you left our friendship of 4+ years for?"

He blushed, probably realizing my words.

I dragged him out of the gym, hand in mine, and heard Ji yeon in the background yelling.

"I seriously don't get your taste in girls." I said to him, making him chuckle.

The lunch period was over, and I was in class with an empty stomach.

"So I take it the meeting went well?" Chunji said, laying a sandwich and a can of soda on my desk.

I shot my head up and glared at him.

"A sandwich? You put me through all that, for a sandwich?" I said, hungrily.

"That's all they had left! I was going to but you something after school anyways." He tried to defend himself.

I sighed, and ate the brief lunch given to me.

"So...?" He asked.

"What?" I asked, drinking my soda.

"Did you forgive each other?"

I shrugged, swallowing the drink.

He sighed while taking the seat next to me.

“Soo Jin-ah~ You know I did that for you.”

“I didn’t say anything.” I said, finishing my late lunch.

Ji Yeon made her way into class, catching both JB and my attention.

She glared at us before taking her seat with her posse.

I then saw JB look toward me, making me blush.

“Ahem!” I coughed, breaking eye contact.

I wasn’t paying attention to the way Chunji was looking at me.

“Did he finally confess..?”

I jumped at the sudden question.

“Huh??” I replied.
“What do you mean? Did who confess?”

Could I sound anymore stupid?

He let out a faint chuckle, then looked at me.

“Why aren’t you talking to him?” He asked me.
“Why are you guys still sitting so far away from each other?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I said, playing with my hair.

“I’m not stupid, Soo Jin.” He said.
“You two finally know about your feelings for each other, so what’s with the awkward air between you two?”

“First of all,” I said, “there is no awkward air.”
“Second, I have a boyfriend, in case you forgot.”

“Really?” Was all he said.

“Yes, really. I don’t know what you’re trying to get out of me, Chunji.” I replied, getting irritated.

Chunji and I never had any negativity between us; at least not that I know of.
We’ve never fought, nor have we ever been close to an argument; but all these questions!

“Hmph.” He snickered.
“If that’s what it takes to get you to open your eyes…”

I looked at him, not understanding what he said.

He cupped my face, and lightly planted a kiss on my lips before staring deeply into my eyes.

He sighed and whispered something to me, before walking out of the classroom, leaving me dumbfounded.

He broke up with me.
