MosquitoThere are people we can't live without but have to let go -
She came back.
Seungwan did not utter a single word on their ride back to the company, she merely listened to Sooyoung catch her up on what went down during the month that she was away.
“She came back two weeks ago, by the sound of it to stay for good this time. But my friend who gave me the intel said her family initially disagreed with her decision to come back. Her brother was supposed to take over the business operations over here, but for the first time in her life she went against her parents’ wishes and came back anyway. Her dad eventually relented and switched the positions of her and her brother.”
Sooyoung glanced over at Seungwan to gauge her reactions, and only decided to continue her briefing after seeing only a small twitch in Seungwan’s eyebrows and nothing too negative.
“Now that I’ve laid the groundworks for you, now before I go on, you have to promise me no matter what I say you will not quit your position in the company.”
Seungwan looked at Sooyoung questioningly but nodded anyway.
“… The president wanted you to focused on your work, so he told our department first and asked me to only tell you after your return... our next collaboration partner is… Kang Corp.”
Sooyoung did not expect Seungwan to react the way she did at all. She thought Seungwan would either be jumping up and down out of happiness or be grinding her teeth seething in anger, but what she saw was Seungwan wordlessly looking out the window with a melancholic expression.
Ever since Sooyoung had graduated and started to work under Seungwan, she was given a task that no entry level business major should have the responsibility of receiving – to gather information about a certain Kang Seulgi. Information such as what she did every week, at what times did she get off work, who her business partners were or who she had personal relations with. Sooyoung did not know of Seungwan’s motives for wanting to know about Kang Seulgi’s every move, but Seungwan’s insistence could only mean one of two things: an old lover whom she could not forget, or a mortal enemy that she hated to the bone.
At first Sooyoung thought it was the former option, because rather than delving into Seulgi’s business achievements, Seungwan seemed to care more about the details of Seulgi’s daily life. As the information gathering went on, she started to doubt her initial judgement. Seungwan obtained the information, yet did not make a move on Seulgi at all, and when Sooyoung later found out a few details about their breakup, it was completely within reason that Seungwan developed a hatred for the Kangs because of it.
Seulgi and Seungwan were both the ambitious type during their student years. They were the only two to obtain scholarships from the toughest university in the country to be accepted in.
There is however, a difference in their excellence – if Seulgi had failed to secure the scholarship, sure she would shed tears of sadness, but if Seungwan had failed to secure the scholarship, she wouldn’t have able to afford attending the school at all.
Seulgi was shocked and intrigued when heard that there was another person that had managed to achieve the same academic accolades as she did, so she went through the whole school to find the student named Son Seungwan, as she wanted to see just what kind of individual was her equal. She had expected Seungwan to be a proud boy basking in his achievements, but what she saw was a short and skinny girl who looked meek and fragile.
After their first meeting, the two geniuses hit it off. Their attraction was almost instant, study dates would soon become real dates, and before long they were in a steady relationship. In the four years of university, they became each other’s strength and comfort, and shortly before graduation, Seulgi asked her family if she could partner with Seungwan for the long run. It wasn’t a marriage proposal, but Seulgi wanted to forfeit her role in taking over the family business and trailblaze her own path with Seungwan by her side.
The Kangs gave Seulgi a lot of leniency and space, but even their accepting attitude had limits. It took a long while for S
