MosquitoThe reason why we cannot let go of someone is because deep inside we still have hope -
What Joohyun said was not far from the truth.
When she saw Seungwan that night two years ago in the company lobby, Seungwan was so out of it that she could barely stand without falling, but was still mumbling about getting some document. Joohyun thought that Seungwan was just an overworked (and cute looking) kid from the fundraising department, so she sympathized for the younger girl and took her back home.
Sooyoung was right as well.
Being single for all these years has really weakened Joohyun’s defenses, and she was no match for a drunken Seungwan’s attacks. Before she could even react and put up a fight, Seungwan had already disarmed her and made her surrender to her own passion. After that it was just one bad move after another by the both of them, which led to the situation they’re in right now.
Joohyun wondered why she had taken pity to the tiny and helpless looking girl back then. She should have just left Seungwan to her own devices.
“Chief Bae, don’t reminisce anymore.”
Joohyun was brought back to reality by the voice and saw Sooyoung standing at her patient room door.
“What are you talking about.”
“I’m talking about the great act you’ve been putting on.”
“…how did you find out?”
“I saw you stare blankly at Seungwan unnie’s picture when I came here to look for her yesterday. You are still unable to move too freely, and had your phone in an awkward angle that wasn’t completely facing you, so I saw it right away when I walked in. I thought it was suspicious, so I came to double check today, and sure enough you’re staring at her picture again.”
“…have you told her already?”
“Not yet, I was afraid that my guess was off and give her the wrong idea. Why are you even pretending to be amnesic anyways? She has already made up her mind to be with you.”
“I wasn’t pretending, I really did lose my memories, the doctors can’t just lie when they brief you guys… it’s just that I regained them only a day later. Besides, it was only yesterday that I found out the real reason for her to suddenly turn her back on me, everything bad I’ve called her before that I really meant it!”
“…yesterday? Who was it that told you? Don’t tell me she did it herself!”
“Sunmi called me in the afternoon after she left.”
“…this means Yongsun knows as well then…”
“Yep, I told her the first thing when she got here. I even asked her to put on a show for Seungwan with me.”
“…is it wrong that I kinda feel bad for Seungwan unnie right now?”
“Feel bad for her? Think about the crap she pulled on me all those times before.”
“…Chief Bae I think you’ve done the right thing. Seungwan unnie really needed to be taught a lesson.”
“Don’t tell her just yet, I still want to have some fun.”
“But she’s really looked so sad these days! You didn’t see it, but yesterday when I went inside her room she was crying her heart out. I really think she’s repentant this time.”
“Tsk, where was this repentance earlier hmm? You know, all I’ve been dreaming about these nights is how she went to see Seulgi that morning and then coming back in the afternoon just to tell me that she didn't want to ever see me again! It always makes me wake up in the middle of the night just to curse at her.”
“…then when do you plan on telling her?”
“That’ll depend on her own doing. I’ve even gave her hints! Last night I watched ‘What's Wrong with Secretary Kim’ in front of her for three hours straight, and even told her to pay attention to the main male lead. But guess what, for three hours all she did was sulk in a corner and occasionally mutter some voodoo towards him.”
“…Your ‘hints’ might’ve been a little too obscure…”
“That’s not my problem. Doesn’t she have the nickname of being the company’s ‘most intelligent and talented prodigy’? If she can’t even figure this out then what’s the point of her clinging on to me every day? You’ve only came to bring food for us, thanks by the way, and even you were able to understand me better than she has.”
“…she might be book smart, but when it comes to her love life…”
“I’ve noticed that too, but whenever I think back on how she made my heart ache for two years just to leave me in the end without an explanation, how I ended up here on a hospital bed twice in a row and almost dying, I just don’t have it in me to not get mad. If she’s serious about me this time, then she’s got to prove herself to me.”
“Um, even though I’m Seungwan unnie’s friend… but to see y
