But Joohyun’s heart is bitter
In the one month that Seungwan has been away on her business trip, she has not contacted Joohyun once. This was a rare situation for the both of them, despite neither of them being the chatty type. But Seungwan would always call Joohyun when she’s had too much to drink with her business clients.
The situation also has a lot to do with their lines of work. The two inspector generals of the same huge private investment firm carry quite different responsibilities - the stern and serious Bae Joohyun being in charge of the risk management department, while the witty and sociable Son Seungwan being in charge of the fundraising department. To put it simply, Joohyun deals with the emotionless numbers and figures, and Seungwan deals with the heartless clients and companies. This has led to Joohyun spending the majority of her time in her office looking at a grotesque amount of different statistics and reports and analyzing them, while Seungwan went out into the world of the upper echelon society to wine and dine with potential clients.
For the relationship of the two of them develop into the state that is it today, they would have to trace back to a fateful night two years ago. After finishing her overtime work, Joohyun discovers in the lobby a drunken Seungwan who stubbornly went back to the company to retrieve some files but fell to the ground in her stupor. They weren’t even acquaintances at the time, but Joohyun had no choice but to bring a slurring Seungwan back to her own place.
And the result? A spark that turned into a burning flame.
In the first six months, the two of them were in a purely physical relationship in which they only met when Seungwan would be wasted out of her mind. Every time Seungwan called Joohyun to pick her up, Joohyun would know that she’s had too much to drink. Yet each morning after she wakes up, Seungwan would completely forget everything that happened the previous night, dress up, and leave Joohyun’s apartment without a word. After a while, Joohyun got used to this routine. They were both adults, and there was no need for any explaining.
The first surprise Joohyun has gotten was also when Seungwan was away on a business trip. After letting her phone ring a few times, with some confusion Joohyun picked up the call.
“Why are you calling now? I couldn’t possibly get on a flight and pick you up this moment.”
“Chat with me for a bit, I feel so dizzy.”
And so, Seungwan blabbered on for two hours without saying anything at all. But Joohyun patiently listened from start to finish Seungwan’s illogical sayings that barely had any actual content. Until Seungwan passed out on her hotel bed holding her phone, Joohyun then finally hung up the call.
That was probably when her feelings for Seungwan took a turn.
But Joohyun would soon find out that Seungwan was still the two-faced person from before. After returning from her trip, Seungwan would go back to barely acknowledging Joohyun at the company. Joohyun had also changed to a person whose actions didn’t match her heart’s desires. Even though she’d tell a drunk Seungwan to drink less in the future as she was taking care of her, she
