The weather was nice, it was sunny, warm enough to wear some light clothing, but not cold enough to need more than one layer.

Joohyun sat by the window of the bakery as she sipped her tea. She read through some medical journals as she waited. Soon enough the bell rang as a new customer came in, she looked up and stood up as soon as she saw the younger girl hurriedly come in.

“Sorry, I’m late!” Wendy said with an apologetic smile. “It took me a while to find this place.”

7832671. The raven blinked, taking her a second to recover as she quickly looked at the blue dress the girl was wearing. “That’s alright. I just got here a little while ago myself. You’re still new to the area. You don’t know your way around huh…”

A few minutes later the two had sat down each with a drink in their hand.

“You pulled a fast one on me, calling out of the blue like that.” Wendy said with a smile, supporting her head with her hand.“How did you come up with the idea of being my tour guide? Had enough of doctoring already?” She teased.

The raven couldn’t help but chuckle. “Well it’s my day off… and staying in seemed rather boring. I remembered that you just moved here, so I thought I’d invite you out.” She sipped her tea. “Do you have anywhere specific you want to go?”

“Well, where were you planning on taking me?”

Before Joohyun could respond she stared like a deer in headlights as she gets call out by a stranger.

“Ah! Hyun..? Is that you?”

“Hm?”

A tall woman with a red dress comes forward with a smile. “It really is you!” She said as the doctor stood up. “Small world! I didn’t think I’d be seeing you again! It’s me, Bee! Do you remember? We met at the club!”

Joohyun nodded awkwardly. “Y-yes, I remember.”

“You left without even saying goodbye, that really hurts do you know how much I’ve missed you? And you told me you were going to call but you didn’t even have my number”

The doctor chuckled awkwardly. “Is that right?”I thought I did…” She said giving a sideways glance to the younger girl who sat looking at both women with a deadpan look.

“Oops! Sorry I didn’t see you there.” The woman said finally noticing Wendy who only smiled out of politeness. “I was so happy I got carried away, am I interrupting anything?

“Uhm..”

“You brought your sister to lunch?” The woman then proceeded to coo. “She’s adorable.”

“We’re on a date.” Wendy replied with a mischievous smile.

“Uhm..”

“Oh?” This time it was the woman’s turn to look awkward. “Wow a date? That’s surprising to hear. I didn;t think you had varied tastes.”

Joohyun smiled and Wendy bit her straw scoffing.

“Well since we’re gathered here, maybe we can all share the table?” The woman proposed with a smirk. “I’ll treat both of you as a proper introduction.”

“N-no.” Joohyun was quick to respond. “We’re fine, maybe next time, we already have plans for the day.”

“Ah okay.” The woman said with a disappointed sigh. “I’ll let you off the hook this time. You may be busy today but next time I won’t take no for an answer capiche?” She said with a flirty smile.

“Ejem”

The woman turned to see Wendy standing next to the doctor a sizeable height difference noticeable by the way the woman frowned at the interruption until she looked down to see an upset Wendy there, but instead of apologizing for hitting on Joohyun the woman, took out her card, giving a lusting look to the doctor, slipping her card on the raven’s shirt pocket.

“Here, now you won’t have an excuse to forget, doctor.” She sidelooks Wendy. “Just in case you want a real date with someone on your level…”

“.” Wendy muttered under her breath.

“Call me I’ll be waiting.”

“I hate that broad.” Wendy said staring daggers at the retreating woman.

“What? Oh Bee? Why she’s pretty cute.”

Wendy scoffed. “She’s too ing tall that’s why!!”

Joohyun couldn’t help but laugh. “But she really is taller than you, so..’”

“Excuse me.” Wendy interrupted. “Just because she has a vertical advantage, she thinks she can bully me… doesn’t she know height isn’t the most important factor when you have skill on that level and– um…”

Wendy found herself speechless, frozen as she’s gently pushed against the wall, trapped as Joohyun placed her hand beside her head,leaning over her with a smirk.

“With me, though… you might need skills on all levels.” She then stood up straight with a friendly smile. “Alright then! All set short stuff? Now tell me where you want to go.”

Wendy, The doctor soon realized, has what they call ‘golden retriever energy’ and she had to admit it was kind of endearing to see. The short girl impatiently walked beside her, listening intently as Joohyun showed her pretty places, or explained a certain story of the place. Their time was filled with jokes, laughter, and storytelling while Wendy took pictures of everything possible with her polaroid.

“Come to think of it… you really are something of a chick magnet, doc.”

Later in the afternoon the two had stopped by the riverwalk, to Wendy’s heart a break from the exercise and much to Joohyun’s healthy misfortune buy her an ice cream.

“I’m guessing that Bee woman isn’t your girlfriend either?”

Joohyun leaned against the railing. “Serious relationships aren’t my style, because I don’t believe in love.” She sighed. “To me love and promises, are nothing more than just hot air coming out of people’s mouths. In the end, it’s just an excuse for , or money… or power.”

“Why does that sound so sad?”

The raven turned to look at the young woman , not expecting the sadness and softness of her voice.

“A woman with zero belief in love, yet I can feel the emptiness in your heart. “ She shook her head. “Something like loneliness hidden beneath a cold facade.”

Joohyun released a breath and stepped away from the railing, walking a couple of steps forward before turning back to the younger girl. “To me, love is reserved solely for idiots and weaklings. And I’ve never considered loving another person.”

“Seriously?”

“It seems pretty idiotic in my eyes.” She replied. “I’ve never really believed in love. To me it’s a worthless concept and it’s going to stay that way.” She said firmly. “Everyone that’s been involved with me has understood that.”

Wendy looks down for a brief moment. “Then…” She looked up. “How about we bet on it?”

“Huh?”

“I have two years until I need the transplant, maybe even less.” Wendy said with a casual smile. “If within those two years, I can get you to fall in love with me you have to agree to be the one to operate on me, deal?”

“Hmph.” Joohyun looked down. “What’s in it for me?”

The brunette shrugged. “I’m doing it to prove a point doctor, you have nothing to lose.”

The raven chuckles with a shake of her head. “Playing the hero now, are we?” She starts walking forward slowly, hands in her pockets. “I don’t think you realize what you’re getting yourself into.”

“Uh.. .”

For the second time that day, Wendy finds herself trapped between a hard object and the raven doctor, Joohyun places one of her hands beside Wendy on the railing between her waist and her hand, and just like last time, leans towards her.

“I’m warning you now… play with fire and you will get burned.” She shrugged. “But fine if you really want me to take you on, then I’ll play your little game.” And just like last time, she steps back with a casual smile. “But we’re playing by my rules. “”and that’s it, nothing else.”

This time their conversion ends not as peacefully…

“Someone call an ambulance!”

“Please! My husband he’s till trapped in there!”

Joohyun leaves the brunette and walk forward in hurried steps. “Excuse me, coming through.”

“Ma’am you can’t go in there.”

“I’m a doctor.”

Joohyun looks at the crash, her eyes widen as two people start pulling the man off of the iron bar he was inpaled in.

“NO DON’T…!”

“AGHH!”

Blood spurs everywhere and Joohyun takes action, running as she closed the remaining distance between her and the patient. “Lay him down!” She ordered. “Damn it, !” She curse, placing her hands on top of the wound. “The shrapnel probably severed a major artery! I need cloth lots of it!”

With one hand on the wound, she takes out her phone placing it on her ear. “This is Doctor Bae, currently tending to a victim of a major traffic accident. Male, looks in his mid 30s, losing blood fast. Need an ambulance quickly.”

Soon enough loud sirens get closer and two paramedics get the gurney out, Joohyun keeping her hands on the wound the whole time as the paramedics get him to the ambulance.

“Get to the Northshore Medical Center ASAP!” She ordered. “Seungwan!” She called out “Does blood scare you?”

Wendy shook her head.

“Alright come in then!”

The paramedic and doctor proceed to take care of the patient placing IVs, treating the wound as best as they could.

“Sorry about this.”

“Huh?” Wendy looked up from where she was seated not expecting Joohyun to even remember she was there, not that it mattered. She did have a dying person’s life in her hands, literally.

“Sorry that our little trip today kind of ended on a bad note. And for dragging you along with me.”

The brunette waved her off. “Well, what can you do? I did come to spend time with you.”

“I couldn’t just ditch you and make you head back by yourself.” Joohyun tells her. “I’ll make it up to you next time, okay? It might take me a while but don’t worry I’ll drive you home.”

“I don’t think this is all that bad..” Wendy said with an easy smile, making the raven turn to her in surprise. “In fact, I think this might be the best date I’ve ever had!”

“The best da– ” The doors open and Joohyun goes back to doctor mode. “HIs vitals are stable for now! Prep the OR!”
