Chapter 15:

IDOL

Renn. I still didn't know what her full name was, but she was one of Ian's friends from IDOL. Yes, I knew her since then, and even before, I never liked her. There was just something innately evil about her that has the hairs on my arms and nape standing up whenever she was in the same general area as I was. Ian (and the general populace, really) was oblivious to this wicked nefarious vibe about her, and I have been trying to get Ian to realize that. Of course Ian said it was probably just my imagination, but of course he'd say that. This Renn person had already seeded his mind with false memories, completely putting Ian under her evil spell. When they had graduated IDOL, I had thought he was finally free from her sinister claws, but I was gravely mistaken. Why was she even here now?!

My phone vibrating in my hands distracted me long enough to calm down, although the peace that had momentarily surfaced soon vanished as soon as I opened the message.

What's got your in a bunch?

Such crude behavior can only be expected from Jay Park and I banged my head on the window hoping that would make me forget he even existed. I snuck a sidelong glance at him sitting very comfortably at the back. Jay was getting along very well with the rest of the boys and I was hoping he'd leave me alone, but as with all my hopes, that was crushed into very fine granules by the one and only.

I was tempted to say none of your business but that would only provide him another cue for conversation and I didn't want that, so I tossed my phone into my bag and looked out the window. The 3A bus was right next to us on our lane and why didn't it surprise me that they were all sitting prim and proper inside while we were, well, 3B was chilling out as we were wont to do. I wonder if 3A ever even have fun? Well, stereotyping aside, I'm sure they can be of some fun later on.

Ian wouldn't even give me a clue as to what we were all doing for the mountain trip. All he said was that it was going to be a good team building experience for us, right in time for the Sports Festival. I told him it wouldn't matter as the chances of us winning were slim, but all the same, Ian said it wasn't about winning as it was about having the time of our lives losing.

Sometimes I don't understand his logic.

The trip was going to take all night long, but it wasn't such a bad thing. The seats were comfortable enough, and I suppose, I couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed with the pleasant atmosphere that had overridden the bus. We were actually all here, the whole of 3B going out on a trip to the IDOL mountain lodge for one night and two days. It was going to be a vacation of sorts, and I was feeling...happy. Sentimental as it might sound, I love my class and everything that was just so wrong and weird about it. Was this pre-graduation melancholy? Perhaps.

The whole bus gave a start as loud cheering noises erupted from all seats but mine. I looked up, and even Junho was smiling, Taec was already standing, and Kwon was already in the middle aisle with Jia and Wooyoung. That was when I heard it, on the radio was Rain's song, It's Raining. Wooyoung and Kwon were already doing the choreography, trying to out-cheap one another, while Jia and Taec were singing their hearts out, moments later Min was already joining in their impromptu performance.

Laughing, I turned to look at the last row to make sure Changmin was taking pictures, and just as expected, he already had his camera out. Speaking of cameras, my eyes suddenly fell onto Taec's seat, and I scrambled towards it looking for Taec's bag. As I thought, his video camera was tucked in securely in it's case, and I pulled it out, switched it on, and stood from Taec's seat to film the event. Taec gave me a thumbs up as soon as he saw me, and he and Min began making faces into the camera.

Hey! Hey! Me! Me!” Wooyoung shoved Taec and Min out of the way and presented himself ostentatiously in front of the camera, he fisted his hand below his chin emulating a microphone and spoke again. “Good evening TV viewers! This is Jang Wooyoung, and welcome to class 3B's Mid-year Getaway to the IDOL Mountain Lodge and Resort for a two days and one night break from school!”

Technically, it wasn't a resort as it was simply a pension house for student trips and it wasn't really even a break, but I allowed Wooyoung the fantasy. I still had yet to find out what trouble he had gotten into, so maybe this was a good way to get into his good side.

Taecyeon followed right after Wooyoung in telling the TV viewers more about the trip and our plans for great fun and excitement. I was honestly dreading it, but perhaps I was overthinking this again? Maybe. Another cheer erupted from behind as the next song played, My Ear's Candy and Taecyeon was already off having the time of his life as Yeeun stood to take Baek Jiyoung's lines. Snatching the sunglasses from Sohee's head, Taec slipped them on quickly as he and Yeeun performed in front of the class.

It was an all out performance as you would expect from Arts students as us. Audience participation was loud too as Taec would point his imaginary mic towards the crowd, and the rest of the class would chorus Taec's lines of “Saranghae, I love you, Wo ai ni, Te quiero.”

Our teachers didn't seem to mind, they appeared to be having fun as well. It was a little nerve-wracking having them here, but I suppose it wasn't such a bad thing? Ms. Tran and Mr. Park were pointing out the deficiencies in Taec's dancing- or at least that was what I thought they were doing, and I never knew Mr. Jung and Ms. Ami knew each other enough to sit together and talk. On the very first seat was out dear class adviser and the bane of my existence- Renn was sleeping, her head against Ian's shoulder, and I was willing to bet a limb that she wasn't actually really sleeping. I took a step closer to talk to Ian, but I was yanked backwards, and I turned to see a disgruntled Seulong.

Yah, film us!” Seulong grabbed me by the arm and pulled back towards the rear, elbowing the impromptu dance crew in the middle of the moving bus, and depositing me on the last row in between Khun and Jay. I smiled at Khun and pointedly ignored Jay.

Hey,” Khun started, and I shifted in my seat to film him, “Should I leave a message?” I nodded, well, the camera nodded at him, and he cleared his throat. “Well, we're on a class trip, hopefully not the last for the year! Let's all do this again in the summer.”

What kind of message is that?” I heard from behind me. “Film me.”

Jay pulled me towards him, and his face flooded the camera lens. “So we're going on a trip.”

Didn't you go on this trip last year?” I asked.

I wasn't in IDOL yet that time.”

Oh.”

So we're going on this trip,” Jay continued, “And I have no idea what we're gonna do, but it's gonna be great!” He then proceeded to make this...this...noise this, cawing noise that I have no idea what it was supposed to sound like or be like.

The chaos was amassed when Seulong and Jinwoon suddenly flew into the picture, and I was squashed into Khun as the two giants squeezed into the camera frame.

Yo! Dude, get off me!” Jay grunted as the two much taller boys squished him under their weight. Jay tried to elbow them off, but Jinwoon's eyes were already gone from his face and Seulong was having too much fun. I couldn't help but laugh at them as Jay struggled to free himself from the trap.

I felt Khun's hand on my elbow and I turned to smile at him, “I'm okay.”

It was Junho's gaze however that worried me as I looked back towards the mess in front of me. My eyes landed on Junho's and he held my gaze steadily for a moment before standing up and pulling me away from the glompage. “Careful,” he muttered softly.

I continued filming for a few more minutes until Taec finally took the camera from my hands and walked back to the front of the bus to get commentary from each of the passengers. I dropped back to my seat suddenly exhausted from laughing too much. I don't think we, as a class, have had this much carefree fun before. There had always been a sharp delineation between groups that there was so little time to mingle with each other. It wasn't so bad, though. It was a lot more fun than just hopping from one group to the other.

Kneeling on my seat I took a look around starting from the back. Chansung was busy munching on some snacks- that explained his absence from the earlier carnage, and Khun was smiling softly as his fingers tapped the screen of his phone- texting someone, I was sure of it. Wooyoung was listening to his mp3 player, bobbing his head up and down as he looked out the window, with Jay next to him, his head leaning against the taller's shoulder. Changmin and Jinwoon took the vacant seats in front of the still unconscious Minji and were sleeping, the same for Kwon and Seulong on the other side. Junsu and Fei were asleep too, holding hands. The whole bus it seemed was almost falling asleep as it was already past midnight. I turned to Taec who was already packing up his camera. “Good night,” he mouthed, and after he slipped off his glasses, he crossed his arms over his chest and closed his eyes.

I slumped back into my seat and pulled out a blanket and a pillow, I was prepared, so to speak. I snuggled into the three-seater, and closed my eyes. It was going to be a long day tomorrow, I knew as much. There were too many questions that needed answering, too many things I needed to find out. Tomorrow, I'd have all the time for that, but for now, I yawned and let myself drift off to dreamland.

I want to know what happened between Khun and June! And, what's with Taec? I agree with the narrator saying she wanted Seulong and Khun to beat the crap out of him. And the last part! Perfect timing, Jay! But you left me hanging in there. Haha. Looking forward to the next chapter (like I always do, in all your stories I am subscribed to)! :)
