Jayce Tomorrow I would be flying to Seoul, and I was so out of my comfort zone it was not even funny! I had worked hard to get this position and I was determined to see it through. When my boss Leslie told me I would have to go to Seoul I was not thrilled. "I know you can handle it and of course not everyone is thrilled but I got your back." "What do you mean?" I ask concerned. "Oh the kitchen manager at the Seoul hotel is furious because he thinks he is more qualified than you." "Oh is he?" I ask. "Maybe but he is not "Ms. Magic Touch and my friend you are." She cackled. "Just out of curiosity what is his name?" "Jesse Park or is it Joseph Park?" Let me check. "Yes his name is Joseph Park." "I will send you over some info about him he is very impressive as well to bad he is acting like a jackass." I snicker she is not one for mincing her words that is for sure. I take note of his name but I am not really concerned about him at the moment. Uprooting my son Easton had my main concern. Taking him from friends, family, and the only home he is ever knows kept me up at night. Was I making the right decision? Is this in his best interests? I just did not know and I did not want my ambition to cause my child to suffer or be sad ever. "Sis I know you are worried but Easton is a big boy and he will love Korea he already listens to KPOP and can speak the language better than any native Korean." My brother Jonathan said. "This is true." I chuckled when he learned we would possibly be moving there he learned it in a matter of month if not less. I am obsessed with K dramas and Jay Park and seemed to have passed it on to my son. He loves most Korean music pansori being his favorite. Yeah my kid is something else. Under any other circumstance I would be thrilled to be going to Seoul. The culture, food everything about it fascinates me and I love to learn about new places. But if I am being honest I am terrified! I know most of the staff there speak English fluently, but I fear cultures clashes and drama ensuing. I know I am overreacting because Leslie would not have offered me the position if she believed I could not handle it. "It is the opportunity of a lifetime and if you don't take it you'll regret it girl." He added. "Besides that you get to live in a 5 star hotel in penthouse suite that you don’t have to pay for!" "That has 3 master bedrooms, a chef's kitchen, a pool, theater room, jacuzzi and gym on it's premises and who knows what else they offer that you have yet to discover." "This is some glorious perks isn't it? I ask. "You darn right!" He laughs "It is the perkiest of the perks!" I burst out laughing at that. "Boy you stupid!" We both crack up. "Heck I am just glad I am bringing Easton over in August and I am taking a month's vacation to chill with ya’ll before he starts school in October." "I am so glad you can do this for me, I feel bad leaving him here with you and mom for 3 months without me." "Girl it ain't nothing those 3 months will fly by so quick your head will spin, you just concentrate on doing your best and getting that huge promotion!" He smiled. "Yes sir." I reach over and hug my brother and I feel so much better. "Now come down and cook me one of your famous dishes a brother is hangry." I laugh and we go downstairs.   An hour later: "Easton dinner is in 15 minutes ok." "Yes ma'am." He says. "Are you done with your homework?" I ask him. "Yes mommy I finished the whole packet and did all my extra credit for the month." "Wow honey that is great but aren't you going to be bored now?" I ask already knowing the answer will be no. "Oh no it will free up my time to work on my novel and to practice my French and Italian without interruptions." He said matter of fact. How in the world did I get this handsome, brilliant child who is considered a prodigy? I did well in school I mean nothing to write home about most b's a few a's here and there. I was on the honor roll but never excelled high in academics. I was gifted musically. Singing and playing the piano by 4 and now at 34 I play the drums, guitar, and flute as well. Easton on the other hand plays everything he touches by ear and is the one of the top students in the country with an IQ of 180. He is already considered a genius and works at college level. He has skipped 3 grades already and at 10 years old he is already going into high school which freaks me out! He skipped all middle school he is going from 5th grade to 9th grade and I am terrified! Of course, if it were up to his school, he would have been in high school 2 years ago, but I put my foot down he must be a kid and enjoy being a kid. I will not have my son dissected and put under a microscope! I look over at him wrestling with my brother and his giggles and squeals are all the affirmation I need to know I made the right choices concerning him. He is a sweet child and I want him to stay that way! Later that night I lay in bed with him until he falls asleep. "You know I won't be here when you wake up but once I land in Seoul and get to my hotel room I will skype you right away ok." "Oh, mom don't worry about me Seoul is 14 hours ahead of New Orleans by the time you get in I am sure I will be in bed." "You just take a hot shower, eat something, sleep and then call me the next morning." "You will be very jet lagged and need all the rest you can get ok." He adds. I just sit there dumbfounded as I listen to this brilliant, adorable son of mine and I smother him with kisses. He giggles and squirms. "Mommy stop that tickles." "Ok." I laugh and I lay down next to him and listen until I hear his even breathing in sleep. I slip out of his bed quietly and head to my room to finish packing. The next morning, I sneak back into his room and kiss him and snap a few photos of his sleeping face and kiss him some more. My brother walks over rolling his eyes and grabs my arm. "C'mon stalker when we get to the airport and you better not start crying either?" "Too late." I say as a wayward tear slides down my cheek. I sniffle and we walk to the kitchen where my mother has made me a huge breakfast that I can barely eat because my stomach is filled with nervous knots. I hug her goodbye. "Everything is going to be fine honey I am so excited for you and I can't wait to join ya'll for Thanksgiving and Christmas it will be so fun to celebrate in a different part of the world." "As long as you are making your cornbread dressing and stuffed peppers, we could be eating on the moon is all I am saying." Jonathan adds going out the door carrying my suitcases. Momma and I burst out laughing. "What is wrong with your son?" I ask hugging her once more. "Chile when you find out let me know." We giggle and she walks us to the car. "Call me after you have slept." She leans in and gives me a kiss. "See you later ma." "Later baby." We drive off and I watch her until she disappears. I turn around and sigh and my eyes begin to burn as the tears want to fall. Jonathan points at me. "And you better not be crying over there either." "I'm not." Yet anyway I think to myself. We make it to the airport, and he sits with me cracking jokes and making
