Description

We met over twelve years ago, and I fell in love at first sight.

The problem was she was my best friend’s girl.

Despite my growing feelings we became fast friends.

When she confided in me about her hopes, dreams and relationship worries I listened and was there for her swallowing down my own desires and dreams content to be her good friend.

When she found out William had been cheating on her and was engaged to someone else.

She was devastated.

She broke off all contact with him and me being his best friend I must have known all along so our relationship became a casualty of his deception.

That was six years ago…

For four years I have searched for her to no avail.

It is like she disappeared off the face of the earth.

Until this morning….

Foreword

“Noelle?” I say not daring to hope.

She turns around the smile falling from her face.

“It is you!

"What? When? Are you back for good?" I ask stuttering too scared to hope.

She looks at me so coldly as if I am stranger.

“Thank you, ma’am, have a great day.” The bakery clerk says to her.

“You as well.” She smiles at her turning and walking right past me.

I grab my bag and run out after her.

I grab her arm turning her around to look at me.

The fire in her eyes tells me that she is just as mad today as she was that day six years ago.

“Do not touch me!” She hisses snatching her arm from my hand.

I sigh, running my hand through my hair in frustration.

“Noelle please, I have so much to say to you, please hear me out!"

"Please I am begging you.”

“What do you want and what are you doing here Rob?”’

“I live over here.”

“Over here where?” She asks.

“Over in that condo building across the street.” I say pointing to my complex.

“You live in Elysian Gardens? This can’t be happening to me right now!”

“What?”

“How do you live in the same building as me? I have to move!” She says walking away.

“Wait Elle wait please!”

“What Rob? What can you possibly say to me after six years?” She asks.

“Please just come back inside and talk to me I need to clear up some misunderstandings.”

“What is there to misunderstand?” I saw him with my own eyes don’t waste my time with your lies Robinson!” She hisses.

“I am not talking about William I am talking about you and I."

"Please just give me twenty minutes of your time and if you’re still mad after this I will never bother you again, I promise.”

“That will be one of the hardest things I will ever do but I will if that is what you want.”

She looks me in the eyes, and I can see some of the ice thawing a little bit.

“Fine, you got ten minutes!”

“Great thank you.”

“Don’t thank me yet because what you say might determine whether you get slapped today or not.” She says walking into the bakery.

I smile watching her go inside.

Boy it is good to see her feisty side after all these years, at least that part of her personality has not changed.
