Chapter 5
SeoulmatesDara went back outside and found the bonfire has been put out. She sat on the canopy swing. Donghae walked out of the house to start bringing in the camping chairs but then he saw Dara sitting in the dark and approached her.
Donghae: Are you okay?
Dara: That's the second time you've asked me that.
Donghae: I just want to make sure you're okay.
Dara: I know and yes, I am okay.
Donghae stood there not wanting to leave her on her own but did not want to invade her privacy. Dara sensed he was hesitating to leave.
Dara: It's okay, I'm not going anywhere. You can grab a seat, or if you like, you can sit next to me, I don't bite.
Donghae went to get one of the camping chair and sat next to the canopy swing. They were quiet for sometime. She liked that Donghae didn't ask her questions and just kept her company. Dara decided to break her silence.
Dara: Don't you worry about me. It was not real (surprised at herself wanting to let Donghae know the truth)
Donghae: Huh?
Dara: The issue about me, it's not real.
Donghae: What do you mean?
Dara: Oh, I thought Minyong told you about it.
Donghae: About your boyfriend?
Dara: That's the thing, he's not my boyfriend.
Donghae: Oh, I see, so it was all for show?
Dara: Something like that
Donghae: I may not understand the reason behind it but I feel that you still somehow get affected with these rumors.
Dara: The comments are not as bad as the DMs. For some reason, people think that since I don't know them, they can be as nasty as they want to be
Donghae: I'm sorry to hear that
Dara: Do you follow K entertainment?
Donghae: No. We moved to Beijing when I was younger.
Dara: Oh, so that explains it.
Donghae: I moved back to Korea a little over a year ago. My family is still in China.
Dara: I see, don't you miss them?
Donghae: (he took sometime to answer, he might get emotional if he answers right away) I do, I just...
Dara: It's okay, I might have crossed a line, I'm sorry.
Donghae: Not really, but thanks.
They remained silent again. It was a clear night sky, perfect for stargazing. Dara took a deep breath and sighed.
Dara: Well, I'm going to turn in early. Thanks for keeping me company.
Donghae: Anytime.
Dara: Good night, and thank you for today and also that day when we first met
Donghae: You're welcome and I hope you sleep well.
Dara: You know what? I think I will (smiling)
Donghae smiled back. The moonlight was just enough to show some parts of their faces and when they stood across each other, their eyes lingered for awhile before they ended up looking away. Dara went in and Donghae made sure he locked up before he went to bed. It took him awhile to get to sleep. He does not like the feeling he gets when he sees her smile or seem happy. At first he thought it was out of concern because of how they met but as he gets to know her, he feels he's starting to like her more. She seems to be someone who keeps her worries well-hidden. He can't add on to those worries. Just as he had left his family in the dark about his condition, he plans to keep it from his newfound friends and that includes Dara, which he intends to consider a friend and nothing else
