Second Love - Sleep and Basketball
The Cost of PerfectionOnce morning came around you found yourself sitting in your car parked in the front of her house. Slightly dazed from still being mildly sleepy. The second you heard her front door slam shut you turned your head slightly to see her running toward your car with a bright look on her face. Every step filled with more pep than the previous. Mornings were not your thing, but seeing her excited every morning was what made getting out of bed worth it. But you also thought there was no way a person should be that cheery in the morning.
The first thing she did when she got inside was chuck her bag onto the back seat. The second thing she did was kiss your cheek, greeting you the best way she knew how. “Morning babe!” As groggy as you seemed you looked at her with all the enthusiasm you could find inside you at this hour. “Morning.”
You picked up a small bag that was placed between the seats and held it up to her. “Please tell me you didn’t eat already.” Her eyes immediately gravitated to the bag in your hand. Before you knew it she was snatching the bag out of your grasp. She squealed in her seat seeing that you brought breakfast with you. And with a burst of energy she quickly pecked you on the cheek again. “I love you so much!”
“Only one of those bagels is for you! Not both of them.” Giving her that look in your eyes that meant you didn’t want her to accidentally eat the bagel you got for yourself as well. The sides of her cheeks puffed out. “Fine, but if I eat all these fruits that’s not my fault!” Tossing the lid off, her finger grabbed at a piece of fruit in the accompanying fruit bowl that was also in the bag. Instead of putting it in she fed you as you started driving. Comprising with you in the only way she could think of.
Rosie had to be at school early this morning because of a meeting one of the clubs she was part of had. Unfortunately for you that meant you had to wait around by yourself until the meeting ended. It was a club you had no interest in joining. Particularly for the fact they had early morning meetings. And for that reason you opted out, but it wasn’t until afterwards that you realized you were still going to have to wake up early to bring Rosie. It was a lose-lose for you.
Rosie quickly left you as she sped off toward the club meeting down the hall. When she was out of sight you found a comfy spot on the side of the main stairwell. Using Rosie’s cheer bag for a pillow, you laid on top of it and closed your eyes, hoping to catch a little bit of extra sleep before the rest of the school decided to show up. One thing about you was if you were tired enough you could fall asleep just about anywhere.
Not even 5 minutes later. “That looks…so uncomfortable.” Without bothering to reopen your eyes you answer the girl back. “Believe me, this is the perfect spot!” Lifting your head and cracking an eye open you see the black haired girl standing in front of you with her arms crossed. “I take it you didn’t get much sleep. Rosie keep you up?” That made you laugh. Dropping her arms, Jennie made her way to a spot next to you. “Oh I forgot you just hate mornings don’t you?” It wasn’t a secret to anyone who knew you, sleep was the thing you loved the most next to Rosie. “So….why are you here so early?”
Trying to give her more room, you sat up comfortably leaning back against the wall. “Because I’m the chauffeur to a very beauty blonde.” Jennie gave you that look. “She’s got you so whipped!” Jennie loved teasing you about your relationship. “Shut-up.” Normally you could playfully argue with her better, but the amount of tired you felt kept you from thinking of a better comeback. “What are you doing here so early? As I recall your not that much of a morning person either.”
Jennie fell back into the wall. “Ugh. I know. I have to retake a test I missed last week.” The agony of school. Jennie whined as she remembered the reason she had to wake up from her beauty sleep earlier than usual. “I swear the only downside to being a cheerleader!” She scrunched up her nose and paused a bit before adding to her statement. “And the teacher isn’t even here yet. I’m gonna be so pissed if I showed up this early just for the make-up test to be rescheduled.”
“At least we have each other to be miserable with!” A small pout appeared on her face. “Y/N?” Leaning back you turn your head to her. Seeing her pout turn into her signature gummy smile with her eyes gleaming up at you. “yeah…” She hesitated before speaking. “Do you have food in that bag?” Immediately you shook your head. Of course she would try to use her cute antics to her advantage. Reluctantly you slid the bag over to her anyway.
Taking the bagel out of the bag, she happily rips it in half. Extending her hand with one half of it out to you. “Your too nice sometimes! And for that I won’t eat all of your breakfast from you. But thank you. I left so fast I didn’t think of grabbing something to eat.” Seeing her offer you your own bagel made you chuckle. Finally having a chance to eat, you took the half from her. Jennie ate her half delicately, ripping it into small pieces before putting it in . Unlike you, you just took bites out of it until it was gone.
Jennie eventually fell asleep leaning against the wall using your sweater as a pillow between her head and the concrete. Her arms crossed tightly across her chest. Not long after you dosed off falling asleep with your head on her lap.
After some time, Rosie came walking down the hall, stuffing a few papers into her bag. When she reached the main stairwell her eyes scanned the area looking for you, since that’s where she assumed you’d end up. Rounding the corner she saw you and Jennie passed out. She awed internally taking in the sight, knowing that in about 30 seconds she’d be the one to ruin it, turning you both into little babies, whining about having to wake up for good.
A thought crossed her mind as she inched her way toward the both you. Leaping into the air she landed sma
