Convenience Store:

Naeun: Are you sure we’re allowed to just come barging in like this?

Hayoung: It’s an emergency!

Naeun: No, it isn’t… 

Hayoung: Fine.

              Then let’s just go as normal customers of the convenience store that COINCIDENTALLY know the part-timer.

Naeun: You know that isn’t true.

Hayoung (huffs): I don’t know what you’re talking about.

              I’m just going to buy some cup ramen.

Naeun gives her one last hard glare before defeatedly following Hayoung into the convenience store.

As expected, Eunji is sitting at the counter chewing on a bar of red bean jelly, her eyes scanning a comic book she probably picked up at the bookstore next door.

Eunji: Welcom––

              Hayoung? Naeun? What are you two doing here?

Hayoung (exaggeratedly): Oh my gosh! This is where you work? This is such a coincidence!

Naeun (rolls her eyes): Shut up, Hayoung.

Hayoung: Pfft. You’re the one who was scared of interrupting her.

Naeun: Yes, because it’s her shift!

              She has a real job here, you know!

Hayoung (whines): But she’s not even doing anything. She’s just eating an old man’s snack and fake reading.

Eunji (scoffs): Fake reading? I’m not fake reading!

Hayoung (solemn): I’ve never seen you read in my entire life.

              That’s not even a real book!

Eunji (shouts): Yes it is!

Naeun: It’s a comic book.

Eunji: A book is still a book.

Hayoung: But it’s barely got any words… 

Naeun: Just shut up and tell her already, Hayoung.

Eunji: Tell me what?

Hayoung presses her lips into a satisfied expression before looking directly into Eunji’s eyes.

Hayoung: Naeun went on a date today!

Naeun: NOT a date.

Eunji (shocked): What?

Naeun: I’ll just explain.

*FLASHBACK*

CLASSROOM:

Bomi (whispers): Hey! Hey! Son Naeun!

Naeun glances at Bomi momentarily but then goes straight back to taking notes. After the day in Ilhoon’s trailer, Naeun can’t seem to figure out if Bomi will only mean trouble.

Bomi: Are you ignoring me because we ed in a closet?

Naeun: Shh! Not so loud.

Bomi (smirks): So you care about your reputation, don’t you?

Naeun: Yes, I’m sorry that I’d rather not have the entire class know about my… private life.

Bomi: Aw, I thought you’d be a little more fun than that.

Naeun: … 

Bomi: You’re not fooling anyone by staying quiet like that.

Naeun: … 

Bomi: Okay, maybe you are.

              But you’re definitely not fooling me.

Naeun bites her lip and tries to block Bomi out with the lecture. Focus. Focus. Focus.

Bomi: Naeun.

Naeun: … 

Bomi: Naeun.

Naeun (whispers): …

              Talk to me after class.

Bomi: Bu–

Naeun: After class.

Bomi: Okay.

Naeun: Okay.

Class ends sooner than Naeun hoped.

Bomi’s halfway into calling her name again when Naeun cuts her off.

Naeun: Look, I’m just going to say it.

              I don’t get you.

Bomi: What?

Naeun (repeats): I don’t get you.

Bomi: Well yeah, but why?

Naeun (sighs): You told me you’d show me everything but I don’t feel like I’ve learned anything about you.

Bomi: Ah, well… I haven’t even started.

Naeun: Huh?

Bomi: Let’s hang out tonight.

Naeun: What?

Bomi: We can go to the amusement park, eat, fool around a little, and just talk.

Naeun: … 

Bomi: Sound any good?

Naeun (slowly): … Yeah. 

              Actually that sounds perfect.

Bomi (grins): I’ll pick you up at four.

*SNAPBACK*

Hayoung: I thought you said you were wary of her because she “might mean trouble.”

Naeun (grumbles): I was.

Eunji: I guess a date does sound pretty tempting.

Naeun (groans): It was a hangout!

Hayoung: Amusement park? With just the two of you?

Eunji: That’s definitely a date.

Naeun (sighs): Just drop it.

Hayoung: Well, do you know if she asks girls to hang out like that often?

Naeun: She’s out a lot with other girls and occassionally guys but I don’t think she’s warmed up to calling them dates.

Eunji nods as she reaches across the shelves for another red bean jelly bar. There’s a little bit of fumbling as Hayoung sets up her meal and Naeun just watches.

Eunji: Are you sure you don’t want to eat something too, Naeun?

Hayoung: Yeah, how come you aren’t eating?

Naeun: I’m not hungry. Besides, I’m telling you guys a story, aren’t I?

Eunji: Suit yourself.

              Hayoung can probably eat the amount of both of you anyways.

Hayoung (shouts): HEY!

Eunji: Stop shouting!

Hayoung: Make me!

Eunji: Do you really want to pay for all that ramen and rice and seaweed you’re eating right now?

Hayoung goes back to her food wordlessly.

Eunji: So what makes you say she hasn’t warmed up to having real dates?

Naeun: You’ll see.

*BACK TO FLASHBACK*

Pink World Amusement Park:

Bomi: Let’s buy matching headbands before going in.

Naeun (shrugs): Okay.

Bomi (whines): Say that with some more excitement.

Naeun: … 

Bomi: Please?

Naeun (louder): Okay!
