M High School:

Eunji: Wow! That was a quality high school play!

Hayoung (shrugs): It wasn’t bad.

Naeun: Here, we got you some flowers.

Hayoung: Why?

                  I wasn’t even on stage.

Eunji: Hey! Don’t say things like that.

                  Don’t you remember last year? Being in charge of the backstage technology has got to be an upgrade from that.

Naeun sniggers.

Hayoung (whines): I thought we agreed not to bring that up anymore!

Eunji: You should be proud of it.

                  There aren’t that many people who took the role of a tree in their high school plays.

Naeun: We got you flowers then so we might as well get you flowers now.

Hayoung (grumbles): Shut up and just take me somewhere to eat.

Naeun: Right now?

Eunji: Aren’t you going to eat with the rest of the kids at the afterparty?

Naeun: Yeah, we saw Namjoo pass by earlier too.

                  I doubt she’d miss a timing like this to go eat.

Hayoung (startled): You saw Namjoo?

Eunji: I even got her some flowers too.

Naeun: She did put up a heck of a performance.

Hayoung (pouts): It was alright.

                  But I’m not feeling up to hanging out with the rest of them so take me somewhere else, please?

Naeun and Eunji exchange glances.

Eunji: Okay… 

                  What do you want to eat?

Hayoung (smiles): Seafood!

Sushi Restaurant:

Settled at a quiet table, Naeun and Eunji poke and prod at Hayoung to figure out why she’s all moody after the play. They don’t get quite a finger on anything until Hayoung finishes eating.

Hayoung: I think I really screwed up.

Eunji & Naeun: Huh?

*FLASHBACK*

M High School:

Namjoo (yells): OH MY GOD!

                  Guess what, Hayoung! Guess what! Guess what!

Hayoung (bored): What?

Namjoo: I GOT THE PART!

Hayoung: What part?

                  What are you even talking about?

Namjoo: I’m going to be Juliet in the school play!

Hayoung: So who’s Romeo then?

Namjoo (grins): Sungjae.

Hayoung: What? Yook Sungjae?

Namjoo: What other Sungjae is there?

                  I forced him to try out since you refuse to join me on stage after last year.

Hayoung (grumbles): I’ll stick to taking care of things behind the scenes.

Namjoo (scoffs): You’re such a scaredy-cat.

Hayoung: HEY!

Hayoung yells after her but Namjoo has already sprinted into her next class, leaving Hayoung abandoned in the hallway. She hears some sniggering from close behind her.

Yerin: Wow, you do not look pretty when you’re jealous.

Hayoung: Jealous?

                  Who, me?

Joy: Who else?

                  You’re practically glowing green right now!

Hayoung: Shut up.

Yerin: If Sungjae and Namjoo are the leads in the play, they’ll sure spend a lot of time together.

Joy: And a lot more than if Sungjae was just a tree or part of the backstage crew.

Hayoung (groans): Can we all just get over the stupid tree thing?

Yerin (exaggerated): Hey, being a tree is hard!

                  You got that role purely off of your natural talent!

Joy: Yeah. If you weren’t tall, you might have been demoted to a bush.

Hayoung (sighs): I’m not feeling up for any of your teasing right now.

                  I’m just having an off day and it’s NOT because of Namjoo and Sungjae.

Joy and Yerin both give her a hard stare.

Hayoung (whispers): Okay, maybe a little.

                  But my moodiness is not helping either.

*SNAPBACK*

Naeun: Ohhh… 

                  I remember this day. You were so grumpy.

Eunji: Isn’t she always grumpy?

Hayoung (pouts): No I’m not!

Eunji: See!

                  She’s all grumpy and pouty right now too!

Naeun (laughs): So are you still just mad because you’re jealous of their roles in the play?

Eunji: They didn’t even have any actual kiss scenes…

Hayoung: It still that I have to watch them giggle and practice all day in the same room though!

Naeun: But this still really doesn’t seem like a reason for you to not join them for the afterparty either.

Eunji: Aren’t you supposed to follow your crush everywhere?

                  Especially if there’s a threat like Sungjae hanging around?

Hayoung: Okay first of all, the following your crush like a stalker is your thing, Eunji unnie.

                  And there’s more to the story… 

*BACK TO FLASHBACK*

Yerin (exaggeratingly) Oh my gosh!

                  Is THE Oh Hayoung really coming to sit with us peasants during lunch?

Joy (fake gasp): After all these years!

Hayoung: Shut up, you morons.

                  Let me eat in peace.

Joy: What about Namjoo?

                  Why aren’t you sitting with her as always?

Hayoung: … 

Yerin (smirks): Why? A lover’s quarrel?

Hayoung (sighs): She’s just practicing for the play… With Sungjae.

Joy: Ohhh. That makes sense.

                  It’s in only a week, isn’t it?

Hayoung (quietly): Yup, and she’s pretty fired up about it.

Joy: But you still hang out every day as usual, right?

Hayoung: … 

Yerin lightly pats Hayoung on the back and spoons some of her rice onto Hayoung’s tray.

Yerin: Here, eat some more to fill up your sad, empty heart.

Joy: I doubt some extra rice is going to do anything.

Yerin: I’m just trying to make her fee—

Joy: Andddd enter Namjoo.

Hayoung (grumbles): I should’ve known…

                  She wouldn’t miss lunch even for this dumb play.

Yerin: You only think it’s dumb because Sungjae plays Romeo.

Hayoung elbows Yerin in the ribs.

Namjoo and Sungjae are at the front of the cafeteria with their food, whispering in each other’s ears and laughing at
