Time to heal: Final Chapter

All Fun & Games

Things weren’t all that great to be honest.

It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t a bed of roses either.

Both Wheein and Solar couldn’t wrapped their heads around the fact that their members were in a serious relationship, the couple didn’t blame them, it was a lot to take in at once.

Consequently, things were tense for awhile, whenever the four were together which was most of the time giving the fact that they were on a band and all, the air around them was always filled with awkwardness and tension, the thought of getting back to what they had seemed to be drifting further and further away.

The groups friendship was strained for awhile as well.

On the maknae’s side Wheein felt like Hwasa had deserted her and she didn’t know why. She had noticed how their time together was less and less nowdays, how even if they were rooming together in hotels the brunette was never actually present, she’d be there physically but her head was somewhere else. She’d be always on the phone, always texting or on a call, never revealing who she constantly talked to. On the rare occasion where she wasn’t on the phone she always had some lame excuse to leave the room and avoid hanging out with her.

“I want to explore this nice hotel, by myself Wheein...”

“I heard the pool here at night looks beautiful”

“I’ll just go get some ice down the hall, I’ll right back”

“You don’t have to worry, I’ll be back soon”

Or

“I’m actually a little busy today“

“Something came up and we’ll have to reschedule Wheein, I’m sorry”

“No, I can’t hang out today.”

In retrospect Wheein should’ve known something was up, she knew her best friend could sometimes act oddly but never once did she thought she was lying to her. She didn’t allow that thought to ever enter her mind since they were best friends and best friends didn’t have secrets, they didn’t lie.

Well, she thought wrong didn’t she?

When everything blew out and Wheein finally knew the reason as of why her “best friend” was always ditching her to do something else, she couldn’t help but feel somehow guilty. What did she do to make her called best friend of more than 10 years hide her relationship from her?

They talked about it.

It wasn’t a pleasant conversation.

W:  Why couldn’t you just tell me? Why did you felt the need to hide it from me? Did you think I was gonna judge you? Treat you horribly for it? Why didn’t you trust me? She exclaimed with a hurt look on her face.

Hurt, the only thing she could feel.

H: Wheein-a I… the brunette couldn’t speak due to the sobs shaking her body.

H: I wanted to tell you. There were so many nights I wanted to run to your house and tell you everything but it was all so new and unexpected for me, I know we like to tease and play on stage but never in a million years I would’ve thought it would become more than that, she kept wiping her tears while talking.

H: And when it happened, the last thing on my mind was that it would get as intense as it did, that she would make me feel so much, she took a breath before talking again, by the time I realized how serious it had gotten and how much she actually meant to me, I didn’t know how to tell you.

Wheein was silent.

H: I’m sorry Wheein-a, I’m so sorry. I’ve been a horrible friend to you, You can hate me all you want, I deserve it, she was talking through her tears.

W: I don’t hate you, she replied quietly. I just wished you would’ve told me instead of me finding out the way I did, she let out a breathe. I’m disappointed. I thought our friendship was stronger than this, but I don’t hate you. I don’t think I could ever hate you, she said honestly.

By the end of their conversation both of them had tears running down their faces, things weren’t exactly looking up but their friendship wasn’t all that ruined. They had that at least.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

For the Unnies it was a whole different story.

Contrary to Hwasa, Moonbyul didn’t stopped hanging out with Solar, she didn’t change the way she was towards her, she didn’t show any signs of anything being different and that was exactly what angered Solar the most. The fact that Moonbyul had been pretending all that time, how easily she had lied and acted around her when behind the scenes something else was going on.

They were supposed to be friends. Sure they weren’t as close as the maknaes were but they were friends too, they were supposed to trust each other, to be there for the other at all times, always.

Apparently, that was only on Solar’s side.

The leader couldn’t comprehend how something like that could’ve happened. What did she miss? What did she failed to notice? What did it all happened right under her nose?

She felt angry.

Betrayal and hurt were also running through her body but anger was the strongest feeling.

How could they do this?

How dare they do this?

She couldn’t think about it without getting absolutely furious. And all she did was think about it.

Moonbyul had tried explaining herself saying how it wasn’t serious at first and she didn’t think it something worth mentioning, a lie of course, Moonbyul would see an ant on the sidewalk and would rush to Solar to tell her all about it. That was worth mentioning but her relationship with Hwasa wasn’t?

Bullsh*t.

Complete bullsh*t.

M: Unnie, you have to believe me, I wasn’t trying to hurt you or the group. What me and her have wasn’t some sort of ploy we decided to do for fun or anything like that. It was completely casual at first, like a no strings attached type of thing, I actually thought it would end after a few weeks, she paused collecting her thoughts, but somewhere along the way I started falling for her and her for me, by then it was too late to tell you, too hard to explain without you getting angry, which is exactly whats happening right now.

Moonbyul felt defeated with the situation, specially since her leader seemed to refuse hearing her side of the story.

S: I don’t want to hear it Moonbyul, she snapped. Whatever you say is just gonna make me angrier. Just leave me alone, please, she tried to walk out but Moonbyul’s hand stopped her.

M: No! She grabbed by her arm. You can’t leave, we have to fix this, she on the verge of crying.

S: There’s nothing to fix, what’s done it’s done and now we have to deal with the consequences, she started walking again.

M: So that’s it then?! You’re just gonna walk away and leave our friendship like this? Is this how you want us to end? She couldn’t help but yell in desperation.

Solar turned around reveling the tears that she had tried so hard to hold.

S: Don’t you dare turn this on me! Don’t you dare talk like this is my fault. It was YOU who lied, it was YOU who kept things from me, it was YOU who chose to ruin our friendship, not me! She was full on crying now.

Same as Moonbyul who felt like daggers were crushing her heart by the weight of her Unnie’s words.

S: I used to think you were the only person in this entire world who would never hurt me, the only person I could trust wholeheartedly and that would trust me back the same way. The only person... her tears were making it hard to speak, the only person I could love and would never leave me.

And there it was.

The truth underneath all her anger: fear.

Fear of her best friend, her right hand and other half leaving her for someone else.

It wasn’t because she was in love with Moonbyul and she felt jealous over her relationship with the maknae, it was because she had already been through this before. She had a best friend that ditched her the second she got a boyfriend, leaving Solar all alone with many scars to mend.

Before singing professionally was even an option for her, Solar had a normal life and she had a best friend, the two were inseparable, joined at the hip at all times, stuck together during childhood and her pre trainee days, but right before Solar did her final audition and became part of Mamamoo her friend started drifting away, they no longer spend all their time together, they rarely talked and their friendship seemed to be doomed to end. Solar blamed herself for it, not knowing that who she thought was her best friend at the time actually preferred to be with her boyfriend then to hangout with her.

She tried her hardest to cling to what was left of their friendship but in the ended it was all for nothing, she had been replaced and that was the harsh reality.

Solar promise herself never to rely on someone else again like that, the pain she felt when she found herself all alone after realizing she no longer had a best friend was painful enough to never want to go through it again.

Of course that all went to hell the minute Moonbyul came into her life, she tried putting up walls between them to keep her at bay and to protect herself but Moonbyul had broke them all down one by one like it was nothing. She had walked into her life and heart like she belonged there and was only claiming what she already owned.

It scared Solar how much her friendship with Moonbyul meant to her, how much the two understood each other and how well they clicked. Sure they fought all the time and Moonbyul annoyed her to death but she was her best friend, Solar cared for her like no one else in the world.

Which is why she felt so angry after realizing it was happening all over again.

Moonbyul was leaving her for someone else.

She knew this time around the pain of her departure would be unbearable.

M: Unnie... listen to me, she walked closer with wary steps, I am not her. I’m not leaving you for someone else, this isn’t me abandoning you or leaving you behind, her hands were now holding Solar’s cheeks. This is me finally finding someone I want to spend the rest of my life with, someone whose face I want to see every morning after waking up, someone who’s heart beats for me the same way mine beats for them.

M: That, by no means translate to me pushing you away. I want you there every step of the way, I want you there to tell me when I’m going too far with my greasiness, I want you there to stop me from buying her every stuffed animal I see, she chuckled softly, I want to be able to run to you for advice all the time, cause you know I’ll need it, she pressed both of their foreheads together while whispering her last words, just because I’m in a relationship doesn’t mean I don’t want you there with me. I love you, you’re my soulmate and I’m never leaving you.

Solar let her words sink in.

Insecurity and fear were still very much present in her mind but after hearing what Moonbyul had to say a little bit of hope seemed to be present as well.

They weren’t okay yet, things weren’t back to normal, there were still a lot to talk about, a lot to heal, but at least there was a light at the end of the hallway: hope.

Hope of everything being well again.

They just needed time.

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

Slowly but surely things began looking up again.

The awkwardness and tension seemed to be fading away little by little, the light at the end of the tunnel became more noticeable as time went by and their friendship seemed to be mending nicely.

At the end, time was really all they needed.

As for the couple, they were in that sweet honeymoon stage where being together was all they ever wanted, all they ever needed. Even though both of them were working hard on repairing their friendship with the other members, their relationship never changed. They still spent most of their time together, still went on secret dates, still spend the night at each others places, still fooled around in that utility closet, still had wonderful, passionate, beautiful nights together, still felt that never ending hunger for each other root deep in their bones.

Their relationship was the anchor needed for them to keep going through difficult times. Who would’ve thought some simple fun and games would be starters of that?

Funny how life works huh?

The End.
