Woohyun was ready for this. He never thought he would anticipate this day this much, but he did. More than any of his other dates. It was as if those experiences had finally come down to this one historic moment.   He took a deep breath and pressed the bell.   “Oh, Woohyun!” Dongwoo greeted, taking in the boy’s appearance. “You look different. Is something going on today?”   Seemed like Hyunmi hadn’t told her family, which was probably a good thing to avoid further interrogation about their relationship.   “Yeah, is Hyunmi ready?” Woohyun asked. Before Dongwoo could answer, he already heard her light footsteps descending the stairs.    Was it strange for his heart to beat faster in anticipation of seeing her? He had seen her in uniform and in casual clothing, but never in a date outfit.   “Whoaaa, you went all out,” Hyunmi commented, appearing before him in her usual shirt and jeans, a fashion which Kibum always described as her hobo fashion. “Looking good.”   “And you…” Woohyun was at a total loss for words, flapping the oversized sleeve of her shirt. “Please don’t tell me you’re planning on going like this.”   “Is it bad? Should I change?” Hyunmi asked, completely clueless.   Woohyun’s jaw fell open. He quickly grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her back into her room upstairs, closing the door from any intruders.   “Listen, I know this is a mock date, but you gotta pretend like it’s the real thing. At least dress like you’re the least bit interested.”   “Such a hassle though,” she said, sitting down on her bed with a bored face.   “But for your date with Baekhyun, are you going to dress up all nicely?”   “Of course.”   Something about that confession irked him, and he didn’t even try to hide it from his face. He knelt down before her so that they’d be at eye level and grabbed her hands in his, making her flinch.   “Just for today, can’t you see me as a guy instead of your best friend?”    It was very seldom to see Woohyun act this serious, and she would lie if the request didn’t make her heart thud. She could feel the heat rising to her cheeks, a strange effect he had on her, as of late.   “F-Fine.” She lowered her head to prevent him from seeing her blush. “But if you want me to get all serious, I’ll have to consult Kibum, my personal stylist.”   “Okay!” Woohyun chriped, a bit too eager. He immediately got back on his feet.   “It might take a while.”   “That’s okay. For you, I’m willing to wait forever,” Woohyun said, grinning a charming smile that usually left his fangirls weak to their knees. Then he left to go down and wait with Dongwoo.   Something about the thought was satisfying. If she consulted Kibum, it meant she was dead serious. The fact she would put so much effort for him made this day better already.   “Did something good happen to you?” Dongwoo asked when Woohyun plopped down on the sofa beside him.   “I guess,” he answered vaguely, not focusing on whatever is on TV. He tapped his fingers against his knee, excited and impatient to start the day.   “I think it’s great that you’re still trying even though my sister already rejected you,” Dongwoo said, putting a hand on Woohyun for support. “Don’t worry. She does like you, she just doesn’t know it yet.”   Woohyun wasn’t sure what to make of that. Usually he’d deny the statement immediately, but then he remembered the scenario he had given her family before. Maybe it wouldn’t be all that bad for them to start hoping again. So he smiled.    “Thanks.”   It didn’t take that long before he heard footsteps descending the stairs. Woohyun got up immediately, perhaps too eager to see the transformation. And when he did, his jaw fell open.   Hyunmi never dressed like this, at least not with him. She wore a two piece dress; a long sleeved white blouse underneath a milky brown dress that reached above her knees. She had even gone all the way to curl her hair and wear makeup for once.   Woohyun couldn’t help that weird fluttering in his chest or the color that flushed his cheeks. Would it be weird to think she looked cuter than any of his exes did? And more beautiful too. He was awestruck.   “It’s weird, isn’t it?” Hyunmi asked, pulling on her skirt. “Kibum coached me into this.”   For once, Woohyun was eternally grateful to the guy. “Not at all. I think it looks really cute.”   The compliment must’ve surprised her too, for he saw her trying to hide her face. He had always been generous with his compliments and cheesy remarks, but they were never appearance based. No wonder it made him nervous as well.   “Wow, sis!” Dongwoo appeared, giving her a hug, admiring the new look. “Woohyun, if you’re not careful, someone else is gonna snatch her away.”   And somehow, that made his heart clench in the same way it did when he saw Hyunmi with Baekhyun. It was probably meant as a jest, so he didn’t know why he felt so irritated at the possibility alone.    “I won’t let that happen,” Woohyun declared as they got to the front door. He held his hand out to her, guessing she would need the support for wearing heels today. Relief washed over him when she took his hand, as she always would. Her appearance may have changed, but she was still his beloved best friend.   “Didn’t you say that I should treat you as a guy instead of my best friend today?” Hyunmi asked while they headed to the bus stop, grinning him down. “If this were our first meeting, I wouldn’t hold hands like this, you know.”   “Oh, right.” Woohyun remembered, and even so, couldn’t bring himself to let go. Holding hands felt too natural when it probably shouldn’t, especially at this age. And it was not like he wanted to give her any ideas on what to do with Baekhyun tomorrow. “But if I don’t hold onto you, other guys might approach you.”   “Really?” She seemed flattered by the thought.   He flattened his eyes at her. “Doesn’t mean you should let that Baekhyun guys do this tomorrow. Also, you probably shouldn’t wear a dress or skirt either.”   “Why?”   “Because...” He covered his face with his other hand, looking away from her. “It shows too much skin, and I don’t want other guys looking at you too much.”   Hyunmi looked up at him, unable to hold her gaze for longer than a second, and turned away.
