3000 CE.

Life couldn't be better for humans. Wars have all but ended. Even as illnesses evolve, technology and research prevents epidemics. Any potential at a civil war is squashed instantly. All thanks to the World Police.

With centers around the globe, the World Police keep their distance from people. Recruits far and few in between. Their eyes are everywhere, but they never act unless the threat is imminent. This has allowed them to capture every gang that ever came to exist. Aside from one, the most notorious to ever exist. The one simply known as Khan.

Their reign of fear and terror over the dwindling pockets of poverty lies under the shadows, away from most of the eyes of the World Police, committing any kind of heinous crime through a wide range of rackets. Only a handful have been able to keep up with their tracks, including veteran detective Jung Hyerim.

Considered the best of the best, she's close to capturing the don of Khan, Kwon Jiyong. Having already captured their most notorious leaders, including Jung Joonyoung and Lee Seunghyun, she was recently given the prestigious designation of Red Ranger, a member who has access to a powered suit of the same color. With these powers in tow, Hyerim makes it a priority to capture every last member to eradicate the world of any trace of Khan.

And to make it even better, she can do it with her girlfriend, Park Chorong, at her side.

Having gathered her resources and support from the Captain, Hyerim makes one last push, bringing in Chorong and three other new cadets: Kim Namjoo, Yoon Bomi, and Oh Hayoung. They've cornered Kwon Jiyong to an abandoned warehouse.

"Alright! This is your last chance!" the Captain announces.

"And what makes you think this is truly the last chance?" a voice announces. This prompts Hyerim to activate her suit. "I'm going in, Captain."

"Detective Jung. You should know that we don't even know how many they have in there. Even you weren't completely sure."

"If we don't take him now, who knows how long Khan will last."

"I just hope you know what you are doing."

"I do."

"Wait!" says a voice. It's Chorong. "Take care in there."

"Don't worry, baby. I'll get him."

Minutes pass. The entire force outside waits anxiously.

"What time is it, Hayoung?" Namjoo says with a drawl.

"Midnight."

"Way past your bedtime," Bomi says.

"It is not, unnie!"

"Quiet, you three!" Chorong snaps. "This isn't time to fool around!"

Then, several blaster shots are heard from inside the warehouse. Everyone draws their blasters and aims towards the doors where Hyerim entered.

"Hold your fire!" the Captain announces.

Then, a yell.

"Who was that?!" Hayoung yelps.

"I couldn't tell," Bomi says.

"You never can, unnie..." Namjoo says. Of course, she's greeted with a slap from Chorong.

Chorong is uneasy. Was it Hyerim? Did Kwon Jiyong capture her? Is she... dead?

"Wait! Someone's coming out!"

Everyone feels for the triggers of their blasters, their hands shaking.

"I... It's Hyerim!"

Hyerim emerges, towing Kwon Jiyong in cuffs.

"Sh... she did it! YES!!!" Chorong exclaims.

"On your knees, you scum! You're under arrest!"

The next day, the Captain speaks to Hyerim in her office.

"Well, Detective Jung. You've done it. Trial is set to begin tomorrow."

"Thank you, Captain."

"You've done an amazing job for us. You deserved the promotion to Red Ranger. If only there were others who could follow your footsteps, though. It's only a matter of time before Khan is completely eradicated, and then, no crime."

"Well, there will always be something out there. And we'll get them too."

"Well said. Enjoy the rest of the day."

As Hyerim leaves the captain's office, she finds Chorong waiting outside.

"Come on, babe. Let's go."

Chorong and Hyerim make their way out of the station, stopping at a balcony overlooking the city.

"I always loved looking out here," Hyerim says with a sigh.

"I know." Chorong then pauses. "You finally did it, babe."

"All this time I spent tracking him down. It finally paid off. Also, remember: I didn't just do it for the people out there. I did it for you too."

"Oh, please," Chorong smirks, eyes rolling.

"No, I'm serious!" Hyerim says. "Come on, babe!"

"Hyerim, you didn't have to do it for me."

Hyerim sighs. "Knowing what you went through, I had to. Plus, think about it. Now we get time for each other now that there's no real work anymore."

"You know, you devoted so much time to work, I guess this is a nice change."

"Well, I think it can also be permanent," Hyerim says, reaching for her pocket as Chorong quickly turns her head to look at her girlfriend.

"What do you..." she can't even finish her sentence as she sees a tiny box with a shining ring inside.

"Will you marry me?"

Chorong can't even say anything. Her heart races like crazy. Impulsively, she pulls herself into Hyerim's arms.

"...is that a yes?"

"Of course it is, you dummy!"

The two share that warm embrace under the setting red sun. A moment they won't want to forget.

That night, Hyerim awakens with a jolt. "What was that?!" Her phone goes off. "Hyerim! There's a situation at containment! We were going home after finishing some paperwork when there was an explosion!"

"Where are you, Bomi?!"

"Outside the station! Quick! Get over here with your morpher or whatever it's called!"

Chorong awakens to the commotion. "What's going on, babe?"

Hyerim hastens over to her closet to switch out of her PJs.

"Babe?"

Hyerim soon emerges in her uniform. "Someone's trying to bust Kwon Jiyong out. We might have missed someone."

"Captain! We don't know who could have gotten in!" Hayoung blurts.

"That isn't your concern. I'm just glad you're all safe. And thank you for holding your ground. You did your job."

Hyerim and Chorong arrive to find medics tending to Hayoung. "What on earth happened?!"

"Unnie... we couldn't stop them..." Hayoung says as she's tearing up. "They..."

Namjoo and Bomi walk in. Namjoo can only shake her head, eyes down.

Hyerim slams on the table. Chorong tries to comfort her fiancé. "Babe. We'll find them." Hyerim soon rushes off.

"Wait, Hyerim!" Bomi yells. "Where is she goi- Unnie!" she exclaims as Chorong rushes after.

The following morning, the Captain summons Chorong to her makeshift office on the other side of town.

"This is where I'll have to base our operations while our station is being repaired. Did you find Detective Jung?"

"No. She won't even answer her phone."

"Very well. I'll show you this, then. Come over here."

Chorong clamors over to behind the Captain's desk. "You see, because she now operates one of the Ranger Suits, we can effectively track her whereabouts and falsely consider the morpher stolen. And there," the Captain says as she clicks her mouse. "Seems like she's... at the Science Center? What fo- rats. She knows what they're up to."

"What do you mean?"

"Detective Jung told me yesterday of a threat that Kwon Jiyong said as she captured him. That it won't even matter that he's captured as long as his cells can disobey time."

"What does that mean, then?"

The Captain pauses for a moment. "This stays between me, you, Detective Jung, and your three fellow cadets, alright? They're targeting our time travel equipment. Only trusted detectives and officials are aware of its existence. If they get their hands on the equipment, there's no telling what will happen to us here. History could change forever. I'm going to send a call to have as many officers over there. You head there first with Cadets Oh, Kim, and Yoon. Also, take this with you," the Captain says as she hands Chorong a case.

"What is this?"

"Detective Jung can explain it to you. There's no time to waste! Get a move on!"

"Roger!"

"What's in the case, unnie?" Hayoung asks.

"I don't know. The captain just gave it to me and said Hyerim would tell me."

"Regardless, we have to make it! Floor it, Namjoo! Use those racing skills!"

"Yea, I'm working on it! Just shut up, unnie!"

As they near the Science Center, they can see smoke rising from the building.

"Oh, no... what could have happened?" Hayoung murmurs.

"If only these stupid cars could hear these blasted sirens!" Namjoo yells. "GET OUT OF OUR WAY, PEOPLE!"

As Namjoo hastily parks their cruiser near the building, an explosion is seen emanating from the roof.

"This is bad..." Bomi says.

"No time to just stare, guys!" Chorong yells. "Come on!"

As they reach the roof, they find Hyerim in her suit, but in a headlock. Someone got her. But it isn't Kwon Jiyong, who is instead in the distance with several others. Including one that Namjoo recognizes.

"Wait... isn't that Jennie?" Namjoo whispers.

"She was a mole?!" Bomi says.

"Looks like we finally have an audience, Seunghyun!" Kwon Jiyong announces. "The honor is all yours."

"You hear that?" Seunghyun says. "I finally get to have my way with you. After what you did," he says with a forboding chuckle. "Remember what you told me when I got captured? Well let me return the favor!" And then, as he releases Hyerim from the headlock, he takes his sword and hacks her back. The suit then begins to release static as Hyerim's body falls to the ground, followed by an explosion.

Chorong can only watch in horror.

"NOOOOOOOO!!!"

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Good luck trying to catch us, you scrubs!" Kwon Jiyong laughs as he and the other folks disappear.

Chorong rushes over to Hyerim, whose suit has deactivated.

"Babe, please hold on!"

"Ugh... it's... too late... you... have to catch them..."

"No! I won't go without you!" Chorong pleads, eyes watering rapidly.

"Take... everyone... the case... has... the others..."

"What?"

"Take... this... with you..." Hyerim hands Chorong her morpher.

"No... I can't!"

"I... love you..." Hyerim's hand reaches out to wipe Chorong's tears, but it falls short. Chorong can only cradle her fallen fiancé under the setting red sun.
