Final Goodbyes

The next two weeks were the happiest times of Yeri and Jungkook’s lives. It flew by so quickly that at some point, Yeri was convinced that she was living a false life in a dream. They saw one another every day at work and spent every night together in bed, practically moving him with him. He was so understanding now and told her everything about his life, almost like she was his only family, which she supposed was not a very bad thing as she had grown to care immensely for him. Just as he trusted her with his world, she now trusted him with hers, which scared her above all else. Other than her close friends, she had never felt so close to another human being before. Loving him was like second nature to her now and she couldn’t help but feel a vulnerability in how much she needed him in her life.

As the sun burned her cheeks, she opened her eyes and immediately shivered at the touch of a chilling breeze. She let out a tired sigh and curled up deeper under the large blanket. Just as she got herself under the blanket, her head began to shake like she was in the middle of an earthquake. Reluctantly, she opened her eyes and peered up to find Jungkook silently laughing, his chest shaking under her soft cheek. She froze the sight of him. He was breathtaking. His hair was slightly in a mess from sleep, his eyes still closed, and his chest was bare, reminding her that the rest of him was also quite . Her cheeks blazed as he turned and opened his eyes to look at her.

“Did I wake you?” He softly whispered to her in a husky tone.

She slowly shook her head, “no.”

His lips turned into a wide genuine smile as he tightened his arm around her shoulders, plastering her to him, “of course I woke you… you just answered me.”

She couldn’t help but grin after remembering her answer, which he had pointed out was quite contradictory with the fact that they were now both wide awake, “alright, you did wake me, but I’m glad you did now.”

“Well now,” his brows lifted in amusement, “are you no longer embarrassed?”

“What do you have to be embarrassed about?”

“Nothing anymore, I guess… it’s just that you no longer seem to be shy about not wearing anything.”

“Yah,” her eyes bulged, and she grew even hotter than before.

He chuckled and grabbed the blanket before she could pull it between them to cover herself, “it’s too late for that.”

She pouted up at him and his only response was to turn over her and kiss her senseless, except a distant ringing forced him to stop. He let out a big sigh and tilted his head up towards the bedroom door. That couldn’t be the doorbell, it was way too early for visitors if he had any.

“What is it?” She asked him after a few seconds of silence.

He furrowed his brows, “nothing… I just thought I heard something.”

She turned towards the door. They both quietly listened for another second before he turned back to her, “I must have heard wrong-”

As their eyes connected, he was pulled back into the heart of their intimate position, which seemed to hypnotize him beyond reality. He leaned down and gave her a gentle kiss on her brow before trailing smaller kisses down the side of her face, along her jaw and then the seam of her lips. With a happy sigh, he opened his eyes and lovingly gazed deep into her pupils. She had the most beautifully dazed eyes, which he realized came about after a good breathtaking kiss. He loved watching her watch him.

“What is it now?”

“Hm?” He ran a light finger along the bridge of her nose, teasing her senses.

She smiled and tried to bite his finger as it reached her lips, “you’re staring.”

“I always stare,” he chuckled.

“Yes, but the look on your face is different this morning.”

He smiled like a fool and placed a hand along her cheek, “I’m just happy.”

She smiled back at him, “I am too.”

The distant ringing returned and caught his attention. He groaned and let his forehead fall onto her chest. This time, he was sure it was the doorbell.

“Who the hell would come here at this time?” He growled.

She laughed and swatted his shoulder, “stop complaining and go see who it is.”

“No,” he dug his arms under her, pulling her up closer to him as he snuggled his face into her chest.

“Yah,” she argued with little conviction, “you need to go check, what if it’s from work?”

“It’s my day off.”

“Stop it and go check,” she pushed his shoulders.

With a growl, he suddenly stood up in full . She squealed and threw the blanket over her head, missing the smile on his face, but not cutting the laugh he trailed behind him as he left the room.

He grabbed a towel from the bathroom to cover himself as he made his way to the doorbell receiver in his kitchen.

“Who is it?”

“Uh,” the male voice reluctantly answered and then paused.

“Hello?”

“Jungkook-ah,” the male voice returned.

For some reason the familiar voice made Jungkook’s skin tingle with goosebumps, “who is it?”

The man sighed and then answered, “it’s your-”

Jungkook’s finger fell off the receiver button so quickly, he didn’t even hear the last word. He stared at the receiver and then turned to his finger, which felt almost burnt as he debated within himself on whether he should double check that he’d heard wrong.

Finally, he gave in and pressed the receiver again, “w-who’s there?”

“Jungkook-ah, it’s your father.”

He slowly lifted his finger from the button again and completely froze in place. What the hell was he doing here? Without another word, he turned back and rushed to his bedroom and throw on some clothes.

“Jungkook?” Yeri was already dressed and was seated in the middle of his bed, combing her hair. She was the loveliest thing he’d ever seen, and for some reason a large clump seemed to form in his throat just at the sight of her. “Who was at the door?”

He cleared his throat and drew a deep breath, “m-my father…”

“What?” He had answered so quietly, she barely made out his words.

“My,” he hesitated and spoke louder, “my father is here.”

Her eyes widened a fraction and she was so stiff with her brush still in the middle of her hair, he almost laughed.

“I know,” he gave her a wry smile.

She cleared and finished the last of her brush before standing up and taking his hand, “you should get dressed. I’ll take my leave and put him in the living room.”

Before she could leave the bedroom, he tightened his grip on her hand and pulled her back to face him, “will you…”

“Yes?”

“Will you stay with me?”

“Of course.”

She seemed to interpret his words differently than he meant them, “will you stay by my side today and meet him with me?”

Her brows shot up, slightly shocked, “m-meet your father?”

He nodded like a young boy asking for support. It was such an endearing action, she couldn’t help but smile at him, “of course, I will. I’ll be right here.”

“Thank you,” he kissed her forehead and turned to quickly dress, “wait for me. We’ll go together.”

She stood there patiently in the doorway and wrung her fingers together nervously. He had said before that he no longer cared for his father, but she still couldn’t fight the nervous tingling that crawled across her skin. She was going to meet his father officially and it was what every girl wished to do eventually once the prospects of marriage seemed to be approaching, which it surely wasn’t anytime soon. Even then, it was still disconcerting to know that she’d be meeting the man who raised the love of her life.

Once he was finished getting dressed, she couldn’t help but be taken aback by his choice of attire. He dressed quite casually, donning a pair of joggers and a large gray sweatshirt that made him look casually delicious. If his father wasn’t waiting to be admitted in, she’d feel almost compelled to propel him back into bed-

She shook her head to will away the inappropriate thoughts and followed him diligently out to the living room. As soon as he headed to the door, she went to the kitchen and instinctively prepared cups of water for their little unplanned reunion. When she turned back to finally look at his father, she caught her breath in the back of . They looked so alike; it was almost supernatural. He had to be the proudest father while Jungkook was growing up because though he was a tad bit shorter than Jungkook and was obviously older, they had the same eyes and lips. Their likeness was so close that Yeri found herself gaping like a fish on dry land for several seconds before remembering the stark tension taking place in the room.

While Jungkook’s father had a certain gleam to his eyes that signified hope, Jungkook continued to hold onto his scowl as if he’d just found his father in the action of lying. This contact continued for another minute before Yeri finally caught the eye of his father.

“Would you like water?” She asked him softly.

“Oh,” he turned and smiled easily, catching Yeri even more off-guard. Their smiles were exactly the same. “You must be…”

“I’m Kim Yerim, sir,” she answered carefully and then glanced at Jungkook.

Finally, able to look away from his father, Jungkook cleared his throat and walked over to Yeri and repeated, “this is Kim Yerim…”

His father’s eyes shifted between them a few times and then he took an obvious swallow, “did you get married?”

“Uh,” Yeri blushed intensely and was about to answer, but Jungkook beat her to it.

“Not yet,” his answer was stiff, and it made Yeri blush even more when he chose not to add anything else. His answer suggested a future, but it wasn’t quite satisfying either. She didn’t know how to react.

“Oh, I see,” his father showed a small smile and politely took the cup of water from Yeri, “thank you.”

Another awkward second passed before
