I am still trucking through :D trying to get this finished before the end of next week.

JongBin proved to be a good friend so far. He waited for Byul everyday at her house, he walked with her and her cousins to school, he started sitting next to her in every class and even invited her to sit with his friends at lunch. He only had two other friends, MiRan and NamTae, both seem to be very nice. MiRan had short brown hair that lined her face and she wore very little makeup. NamTae looked like another pretty boy who Byul would have avoided in her old school, he wanted to be a director. Byul didn’t converse much with them about herself, she joined the conversation when they talked about things like what was going on in the school or TV shows they’d watched recently. 

The day before Devil’s night, she sat in the cafeteria with them, they were talking about JiSoo’s Halloween party, apparently everyone in the school is invited, everyone except one. Kim YongSun walked into the cafeteria and glared around the room, all eyes were on her as soon as she entered the room. Byul couldn’t help but think there was a nice person under all that makeup and snark, even if she might actually be a witch, there was something about YongSun that drew Byul in, some part of her wanted to get to know the girl better. 

YongSun ignored everyone, which Byul is starting to think is very usual for her, she walked over to the line and grabbed some food to eat, as soon as she paid for it she left again. It was almost as if the whole room let out a collective breath when she did. Byul couldn’t help but look at the door, still swinging closed, she felt like following her. “Byul?” Byul’s attention snapped back to the group. JongBin tired to hide a smile that Byul caught. “Have you seen Stranger Things?” MiRan asked, she assumed again. 

Byul shook her head, for more than just to say no. “I never got into it, I think I made it three episodes in.” There was a collective gasp from them.

NamTae leaned in. “What do you mean three episodes?” He sounded so offended. 

Byul shrugged. “I am a big chicken, those things scare me.” 

JongBin rolled his eyes. “It isn’t even that scary.”

“Yeah and that it what people told me about the new IT movie and I still have nightmares about clowns.” They all laughed at her. 

MiRan and NamTae had to leave a few minutes early to go talk to the homeroom teacher about being late that day, leaving JongBin and Byul alone to finish their lunch together. “I have been meaning to ask you something.” JongBin said making Byul look up at him expectantly, it is not like he hasn’t had optimal time to ask her anything, they spend all day together. “This interest in the Bellbourne witches,” Byul felt a chill run down her spine. “It doesn’t have anything to do with the fact the Kim YongSun is like exceptionally beautiful?” 

Byul gave him a look. “I don’t think I have ever heard anyone say something like that about her, it is all negative.” 

He shrugged. “She may be a but I have eyes, she is quite beautiful. I am just wondering if that is your reasons for wanting to know more about the rumors.” 

Byul felt her face heat a bit, she was really glad she never told him what her cousins and she were up to tomorrow night. “I am not going to deny I think she is pretty.” She swallowed. “But no that isn’t the reason. I see something in her, especially behind her eyes. Something that tells me the words and jokes people make at her expense hurt more than she lets on.” She couldn’t make eye contact with him. “I think she is hiding behind the snark because she is hurt and lonely and already made up her mind to keep everyone away because it hurts less if they never liked you in the first place, rather than them leaving later.” Byul was aware she was rambling again, she did it often when she was nervous. She took a breath. “I just think there is more to her than what everyone thinks.” She looked up and JongBin was smiling. “What?” 

He shook his head. “Dam you got it bad. I guess YongSun has put you under her spell.” 

Byul reached over and slapped him. “Oh shut up.” He laughed and dodged her next hit, lucky for him the bell rang for their next class. 

YongSun was getting sick of having to go to school everyday. She was chapters ahead of everyone and sitting there was just boring. The looks and glares she was getting from everyone made her want to pull a Carrie on them, she could do it too, and she was dramatic enough to pull it off. The only look that never changed was the new girl. She had been here for almost a week now, more than enough time to hate her, maybe YongSun hadn’t been mean enough to Byul, she would have to change that. Byul it seemed had fallen into a group of friends fast. The JongBin kid and his friends. She remembered him trying to befriend her a few years ago, it only took an hour to make him run away. 

Chemistry was the last class of the day, and one YongSun wanted to desperately skip. Everyday some poor soul was picked to be her lab partner, and everyday they lasted ten minutes before the teacher took pity and let them join another group, leaving YongSun solo once again. She had hoped the teacher would have given up her mission to find YongSun a lab partner who wasn’t scared of her, but she never did.
