Revelations
Je t'aime... Moi non plus
“Acting jealous, aren’t we?” Seung-hyun asked Jiyong as soon as he saw him arrive at the bar were he had invited him for an after work drink.
“Oh please shut up, Seung-hyun.”
“I know what you did yesterday. Dara told me everything.”
Jiyong sighed at he looked at his friend Seung-hyun. Why Sandara had to be friend with such a gossiper? Now that he knew what Jiyong had done yesterday, the guy would surely make fun of him for the rest of his life.
Yesterday, Kwon Jiyong had gone to Sandara’s university in order to pick her up so that they would go to his place and watch a movie, as usual ever since they got together. However, seeing that she was taking her time to come to the parking lot, he started worrying a bit and thought that maybe she had a problem. After trying to call her a few times, he decided to enter the Business building and look for her. He was the mayor of Seoul and had kept a very good relationship with the people working in his former university so he didn’t think it would raise people’s curiosity to see him. As he entered the building, he noticed only a few students were still there and most of them had already gone home and couldn’t help but worry a bit about Sandara’s whereabouts. She was the one who asked him to come pick her up today, as she didn’t want to bother her chauffeur that planned on spending the day with his wife for her birthday. Soon enough, as he wandered in the hallways, trying to find her, he heard her voice. The voice he liked hearing so much.
However, she wasn’t alone and Jiyong frowned as he heard another man’s voice. He quickly made his way toward them, and, not really paying attention to what they were actually saying, started throwing a tantrum, obviously jealous over the fact that Sandara had made him wait for her in the parking lot while she was enjoying a conversation with another man. As Jiyong was in the middle of his jealous monologue, the man coughed a bit, trying to make himself visible by Jiyong whom had turned his back on him as he was talking to Sandara. As soon as Jiyong heard the guy cough, he turned around and glared at him, he saw him looking funnily at him. Before Jiyong could say anything that would have made the situation worse, Dara shyly introduced Jiyong to her International Management teacher. As soon as he heard the word teacher, his eyes widened and he finally realized that the guy talking with Dara actually looked a bit too old for her.
Realizing how dumb he had reacted at the sight of his girlfriend talking to another man, Jiyong quickly bowed to the teacher as he apologized. The teacher didn’t know which one was the most embarrassed as both Dara and Jiyong’s face had reddened in a matter of seconds. Thankfully the teacher was pretty cool with his students, or maybe he was supporting Jiyong’s political party, but he assured them that everything was fine. He laughingly explained to Jiyong that he was talking to Dara because he wanted to get her feedback on his classes over the last four years since he wanted to improve his subject for next years’ students. As Jiyong recalled yesterday’s embarrassing moment, he couldn’t help but blush again.
“Did she really told you everything?” Jiyong asked as he looked down at his shoes, embarassed just by thinking of the situation.
“Of course. She even told me how you couldn’t speak or look at her in the eyes for the rest of the afternoon.” Seung-hyun said as he tried to embarrass the Mayor even more.
Jiyong quickly ordered a drink as he sat down next to Seung-hyun, ignoring the gazes he got from the other clients in the bar. He was easily recognizable as posters with his face could be seen everywhere in Seoul ever since he became the Mayor but he wasn’t in the mood to be the Mayor right now. He had had a long day at the city hall and definitely needed something to relax a bit. His relationship with Sandara was starting to scare him.
“I don’t know what’s up with me. I didn’t even think twice and got overly jealous when she was just talking with her teacher.” He stated as he took a sip from his drink. “I mean, I didn’t realize he was her teacher, but even if he wasn’t, well, I guess she has the right to talk to someone from the opposite , right?” He asked but didn’t even wait for his friend to reply. “I mean, I talk to women everyday. The office is surrounded by women who work for me. It’s not a big deal and I know that Sandara it not the cheater type... “
“Well... If you want my opinion, I think that you are in love with her.”
As soon as Jiyong heard the L-word, his eyes widened in shock as he thought Seung-hyun was talking nonsense. He definitely liked Dara, she made him feel good about himself and he was confident that they had a special connexion but he didn’t think he was someone able to love. When it came to him, everything was business and Sandara happened to be someone who’s company was quite enjoyable but that was it for him. The L-word was definitely not part of the Jiyong dictionary.
“I definitely like her and surely intend on proposing to her someday, but love is a big word Seung’... I don’t think I’m that type of guy.”
“Mmh... You intend on proposing to her?"
Jiyong slowly nodded as he thought about that day where him and Dara were laying on his bed as he was trying to convince her on telling people about their relationship. That day he really had thought on making her his wife. Actually, the idea of giving her his last name was quite appealing.
“Yesterday, when you saw her talking to her teacher, how did you feel?” Seung-hyun asked as he crossed his legs and started caressing his chin, trying to act like a psychologist... Well in that moment, he definitely was Jiyong’s psychologist.
Jiyong thought for a few seconds about how he felt yesterday... He couldn’t precisely say how he felt but he obviously felt a slight pinch in his heart as saw her giving her attention to another man than him.
“Okay, it was a bit hurt. But I don’t think it was love, I think it was just pride.”
“I don’t think people think of proposing to someone just because of pride.” Seung-hyun said accusingly. “As much as you try to deny it, I think you really fell in love with Dara... Ahh, it’s crazy how time flies...” Seung-hyun said as he thought about the good old days with Jiyong. “Over with our boys nights out chasing some y chicks... The womanizer world will surely miss you Ji...”
Jiyong glanced as his friend who was dramatically laying against the bar as he gulped the remaining of his drink in one go as if he wanted to drown his sadness in alcohol.
Today, Sandara had decided on finally telling her parents that she was back with Jiyong and that she intended on staying by his side. Jiyong had finally managed to convince her. In fact, last time they saw each other, he spent the whole afternoon telling her the same thing over and over: “Let’s go public”, until she couldn’t fight the urge of knocking him out anymore.
He was being overly cute but annoying as he would trail behind her and utter the same words every thirty seconds. Eventually, she ended up giving up and telling him that they would tell their parents about it. Over the last few weeks, Jiyong was all clingy over her and Dara was obviously delighted to see that he only had eyes for her. The problem was that her parents were still pissed at the Kwons for making fun of them. Park Jeesung surely didn’t like how the journalists had made fun of his daughter after Jiyong was caught cheating on her with some stripper.
Even though he had kept Hyundai’s contract with the city hall, he didn’t want to see Kwon Jiyong near his daughter anymore. The only reason why the Kwons and the Parks were still doing business together was because Dara had asked her father to not put an end to the contract. No matter how powerful the Kwon family was, he didn’t want his only daughter to be with someone who could humiliate her this way.
“Mother, father... I have something important to tell you.” Sandara said as she made her way towards her parents who were peacefully seated on the couch, drinking some tea while reviewing some important documents for the company.
As soon as they heard their only daughter speak, they quickly raised their heads and gazed at her, their forehead creasing slightly as they expected her to keep talking.
“What is it Sandara?” Her nom asked as she put her cup
