SIXTEEN: Blood Moon
Pureblood“Ahh, the classic bonfire.” I said as Eunji and I settle down, joining our friends in front of the dancing fire. Looking up to the moon greeting us on this cold night then back to the crackling logs in flame soothes my soul and mind. This is the kind of peace that I need.
“How long has it been since the last time the blood moon visited us?” Naeun started the conversation as she throws twigs to maintain the fire.
“It was during my first century as a vampire.” Eunji answered and it quickly travels us back to the days. I remember it clearly as we talk about it. “Our council friends here watch me like hawks. It’s funny.” Looking at Namjoo and Hayoung who just shrug in response. It’s their job after all, to see how Eunji’s keeping up with her service back then.
“And your eyes were glued to someone too.” Naeun teased as she gave Eunji a nudge.
“Oh please not this again.” I said in my head. But looking at how the two smile at each other, they’re definitely over it and it’s just a memory that they find amusing to tell.
“Love, listen. I like you, I want you. Only you.” Eunji coos as she leans closer to Naeun and the latter cuddles with her legs laying on top of her lover. It’s nice to see them like this. Together like nothing in this world could tear them apart.
“That sure looks comfortable.” I commented on the way Naeun molds herself to Eunji and I wonder.. I wonder if I could be just like that with Bomi again. Because during this lifetime, we were still working on our relationship after she finds out about me being a vampire and about us dating for years. We may have taken things quickly by throwing ‘I love you’s’ at my father’s forest but other than that.. we’re practically still on the getting-to-know-each-other phase.
“I never thought Naeun here would act on a public display of affection. Intriguing.” Namjoo said and I agree, it’s crazy to see her this open with their relationship. What can I say, the President exposed them and at the same time supported them. What is there to hide, right?
“I never thought that they’d be calling each other ‘love’!” Hayoung followed and soon turn to my direction and asked, “What do you call Bomi anyways?”
“Bbom-ah?” I answered but she doesn’t look satisfied by it.
“No. Something like a pet name.”
“Nothing. Just ‘bbom-ah’.”
“No. There must be something. Let’s just say that you get to call her with anything else but that. What would it be?” Hayoung is really determined to know. I thought about the question for too long that Namjoo started poking my side with twigs before throwing them to the fire.
“I honestly have no idea. ‘baby’ maybe?”
“That’s even worse than ‘love’! What is she? Your child?!”
“Hey, it’s cute!” What is wrong with ‘baby’? Good morning, baby. Laters, baby. It’s adorable!
“We’ll see if you get to call her that after you playing with some girl named Soeun.” Eunji said and now the Soeun story is out in the open.
“Ohh this sounds interesting, any blood bags for you guys?” Hayoung asked as she opened the portable cooler and gave one to Eunji who raised her hand.
“So who’s this girl Soeun?” Namjoo asked grilling me as if I’m on top of the burning fire in front of us.
“Just a girl I saved and met from the last commission I took.” I said trying not to say so much about her because if I do share with them how Soeun and Bomi look so much alike, this conversation would never end.
“Whatever you say~ though Bomi sure is jealous over her. Good luck on that.” Eunji shared and the other agrees to it as they nod in harmony like some cult.
“She has nothing to be jealous of..” I felt like my voice faded at some point in that sentence because why? Why would Yoon Bomi be jealous over some.. girl. It’s not like she saw me make out with her or something in that forest.
“I guess we need not to worry about this Soeun.” Naeun said not letting go of the topic yet.
“I assure you guys, it isn’t like that. I have my reasons for saving her life. Without her, I wouldn’t have known about the biggest issue that our kind is about to face.” It’s time for me to tell them all about this.
“Is it about the revolution?” Naeun asked and it took me by surprise that she knows about it. Well I shouldn’t be, right? She leads her own clan, she must’ve heard about it from the government themselves.
“Yes, that exactly. But-”
“How did I know? Let me tell you our story.” Naeun then removed herself from Eunji as she sits in proper. “Some of our members went missing for years. When Eunji and I went to investigate on this case, we found them lurking on the mountains.. as ghouls. And that’s when we relay the message to the government.”
“Then the government told us to prepare ourselves.” Eunji followed.
“Wait a minute. Did you just say that a vampire turned into a ghoul? How is that possible?!” Hayoung responded in bewilderment as she nearly chokes on the blood she’s drinking. “That’s indeed huge. Yah! Namjoonie, let’s go finish the rest of the commissions needed and offer our help to the council.”
“It’s a plan.” Namjoo answered to Hayoung more determined than ever. “How about you, unnie? Clearly, you’ve exceeded the requirements now. What are your plans?”
“I will continue with my training to take over my father’s position.”
“Finally, the heir will sit on the throne.” Eunji excitedly said as if they’ve been waiting for it to happen.
“Ooohh. You’d be taking lessons from Professor Hyung Don about the new laws and will be reading this thick- book about leadership. It’ll be a pain in the , I swear.” Naeun must’ve taken the same lessons before. I’ve been trying to hold off that part of the preparation but I guess I can’t really escape Mr. Don. “What about Bomi? From what Eunji said, she’s as free as she wanted to be now that her own preparation is done.”
“I have no idea. I don’t know.” I am supposed to know by now. We’re supposed to meet. Whoever that she has a meeting with will die.
“What a scary thought you have there.” Naeun said in her head. What can I do? I’m furious about it. Answers to my questions are meant to be given this night.
“Who said that she’s meeting someone?” Hayoung said joining our mind conversation.
“I don’t think we said anything as to why Bomi left early..” Now, Namjoo. They caught me.
“Yah! I know what you guys are doing!” Eunji whined and it’s funny how she pulled out her phone as if it’s a gun. “Let’s just appreciate Bomi’s appearance shall we? Look! She’s breathtaking!” it is indeed a ing weapon to my curiosity.
I tried to ignore how their gaze turns heart over a photo but with comments bombarding my ears, it makes me want to see the photo as well.
“Look at her hair, was she blonde before all this or she dyed it?” Namjoo described and damn that coat for hiding her hair from me.
“No idea, I’m about to ask her that. Whether the transformation caused it or not.” Hayoung join then look straight at me befor
