Jennie POV

I had a feeling that Rosie would be a good tutor but I did not think she would be this good! Today is her first day tutoring me but I already feel like I have gained interest in history, mainly because Rosie teaches with the help of stories and diagrams rather than simply reading out the textbook like Mr. Lee does. I wish she was our teacher instead.

“Jennie, are you listening?” Rosie asks

I snap out of my thoughts “Sorry I zoned out” I say apologetically “But I promise I have heard and understood everything you have taught me till now”

She smiles sweetly “That’s good! But since you feel like you are zoning out now let’s take a little break”

“Good idea”

She stands up and invites me to sit with her on the bed instead of the floor where we had been studying. I do as she says. Her room is pretty and cozy and Rosie is a really good host. I could get used to coming here.

“So Jennie I have to…there’s something I would like to talk to you about” Rosie says. She sounds really nervous

“Sure. What is it?”

She pauses as she tries to frame her words while I sit with anticipation. She looks really worried

“That day in the park I told you something. About myself.”

I nod asking her to continue talking

“I told you that…that I like girls. And I know South Korea isn’t really open-minded. So I’m a little. You know” She starts breathing heavily making it difficult for her to talk

I reach for her hands and rub her palms to calm her down. Does she regret coming out to me?

“Rosie. Don’t worry. I promise I won’t tell anyone. Like I said I really think it’s fine” I her arm giving her a reassuring smile.

She starts breathing normally again “Thank you. Sorry about that”

“That’s ok” I say “Can I get you some water or anything?”

“No. I’m fine” she smiles softly

Just then I hear a door open “Chaeyoung-ah I’m home”

“Ok Lisa!” Rosie shouts back.

Lisa comes into the room. She’s tall like Rosie with delicate features, a bright smile and a camera hanging around her neck.

“Lisa this is my friend from class Jennie and Jennie this is my roommate Lisa” We both flash smile awkwardly at each other as Rosie introduces us.

“Nice to meet you Lisa” I say breaking the awkward silence

“Likewise” she says

“Lisa how was your shoot?” Rosie asks

“It was fun! I’ll show you the pictures at night. I’m tired now I’ll go rest. Do you guys need anything?”

“No don’t worry” I say pointing to a pile of snacks and two cans of soda on the floor “We are all stacked up”

“Ok then” Lisa says “I’ll be in my room. Have fun guys” She shuts the door and leaves. That felt awkward

“She doesn’t go to our school right?”

“No she goes to Hongdae School of liberal arts. She’s learning photography”

“I see. How do you know her then?”

“We met after I came to Korea. I was looking for accommodation and found her place”

I nod

“Also” Rosie continues “She’s family friends with my ex, so I knew she was a nice person and all. That’s how I know her”

“I see”

Is it too early to ask Rosie about her ex? There is a lot that intrigues me about Park Chaeyoung. A lot I want to ask and I have a feeling there is a lot she wants to share with me too. Maybe we will get there eventually.

“You are zoning out again” She says with a smile

“Oh sorry” I say giggling. “I zone out a lot”

“Me too” she says “I am lost in my head most of the time”

“Yeah, it annoys the crap out of all my friends and family”

“I know right” she giggles as she reaches for her phone. We then sit in silence as she scrolls through her mobile. I look around to find something that interests me, and I do. I spot her guitar leaning against the wall in a corner

“Hey after we are done with history could you teach me the guitar”

She looks up “Yes most certainly” she says “Do you sing?”

“A little bit. I can rap too”

At this she is impressed. “Let’s have a jam session sometime”

“Sure!” She goes back to her phone, but just when I am about to reach for mine she says “I have prepared a song to perform this Sunday at café Mocha. Would you like to hear it?”

“Sure” I say enthusiastically “I would love to”

She fetches her guitar and after strumming a little for practice, she starts singing

She looks up from her guitar to make eye contact with me as I nod along to her singing. Our eyes meet taking me back to that time in the café when our eyes met for the first time and the world around us paused. It did this time too. The only difference this time is that we actually are alone

Woah her rap is charming and while she performs she keeps smirking at me. This time she truly is singing it for me. If a guy ever serenaded me like this I would fall head over heels.

“Wow” I say as she finishes. I don’t think words can describe how good that was.

“Did you like it?”

“Are you kidding me? That was amazing”

She blushes

“Honestly if you ever want to impress a girl just serenade her. You have got the charm”

She nods “I will do that”

“Any girl you sing to like that would feel special” I announce

“I see” she says “Did you?”

Now it is my turn to blush and look away with a nervous giggle “Yes. I did. In fact while you were singing I just imagined how it would be if a guy sang that for me and I came to the conclusion that I would definitely fall for him”

She smiles and nods “I see”

“But I do highly doubt a guy would have the charm that you do”

Whoa! Where did that come from?

Rosie laughs “Well thank you, you have definitely given me the confidence that I need for Sunday”

“Trust me Rosie, you are going to nail it. All the ladies there are going to fall for you”

“Will you be there too?”

“Sure, Ill come” My phone buzzes and I pull it out of my pocket “Ah it’s my mom. I should leave it’s getting dark”

“Ah sure, let me help you get your things” Rosie helps me pack my books and escorts me to the door

“Same time tomorrow then” She says as we reach the door

“Yeah” I lean in and give her a hug. She smells like candy “Thanks for today”

“You are welcome” she hugs me back and I step out of her house and walk towards my car

‘Did she flirt? Were we flirting?’ I ask myself as I get into the car ‘Let’s not over think this. She’s just a nice person that I probably want to be friends with. I’m not gay. Right?’ I sigh trying to make all my thoughts go away but it was hard because right now all my thoughts just look like Rosie.
