Chapter 8
A Miracle
Heechul eventually came to a stop as his legs become tired from running. He knew he should’ve worked out more when he heard footsteps behind him finally catching up to him. There were three possibilities. It was either Hangeng, Jungsoo or a serial killer and right now he really wished he ran a bit further than the park.
“Heechul-ah,” The voice called out again, slightly panting from having ran so quickly. Heechul sighed in relief, at least it wasn’t a serial killer.
“Chul, I can explain, please, I just want to see you, it’s been so long,” Hangeng said
“You…” Heechul turned around to face Hangeng, “You really think I want to hear you explain why you left three years ago without explanation? You didn’t even bother to call back or leave a message, you didn’t tell anyone even your residential guardians, and I thought I meant a little bit more to you, at least enough to know that you’d be disappearing off to who-knows-where for however long. You’re three years too late for an explanation, don’t you think?” Heechul’s voice went from rage to a whisper. Heechul was crying, all of the emotions that he had been trying to keep in for the past three years spilled out without control. It got to the point where Heechul had a hard time breathing because he was crying so hard, and all Hangeng did was hold him in his arms. At first, Heechul resisted, but soon ran out of strength.
A while later, Heechul’s sobs died down and Hangeng opened his mouth.
“I’m sorry,”
“You’re three years late don’t you think?” Heechul mumbled.
Hangeng cleared his throat and continued, “at first, I was called back to China by my parents, it was an emergency, I bought a ticket on the spot and left.” He said calmly, patting Heechul’s back as they talked in close proximity. Hangeng walked them over to a bench while he spoke. “My mom, she got sick all of a sudden, and my dad wasn’t able to be home to take care of her. They needed me to come back home and take care of the family business until my mom recovered.” He added
“She had pneumonia, and she recovered after a while once I returned. But I couldn’t come back to Korea, because my parents had handed down the business down to me.” He continued, “and there was also the fact that my student visa was terminated when I booked the ticket to China for my mom.”
“Anyways, so I worked hard the past few years and I helped bring my dad’s business’s value up. We’re not number one yet, but we’re going to be soon. It’s a dumpling chain, and I have full plans of expanding it to both Korea and Japan. But that’s a little down the road.”
He sighed and added, “I did send you letters, but you never returned them, and the only reason I wasn’t able to contact you through the phone was that it got stolen the minute I arrived in China. I didn’t have anyone’s phone number memorized, so I wasn’t able to contact anyone for a while. It wasn’t until I had all of my stuff shipped to me that I found your address in one of my student notebooks. The one where we exchanged lots of conversations when it wasn’t okay for us to talk in class.” He laughed at the memory
“I wrote to you too, but you never returned my letter, and I was getting worried since I wasn’t hearing back from you,” He hugged Heechul's side, “So I made up my mind and came back, my plane actually landed like four hours ago and I went straight to your place but some teenager opened the door so I thought that maybe I was sending l
